Glenn McGrath will be in the TMS commentary box for the ashes this year. That should be fun.

Reckon 300 would've been a superb score first up in the first test match of the summer in mid-May. Yes, Lords pitch is traditionally a road, but there was enough nip off the deck and movement in the air to tempt me into saying we have more than a shout in this match.

250 would've been about par, they bowled superbly well with a thoroughly decent and intelligent attack, and though we were slightly (only slightly, doesn't need to be boundaries every over...this is Test Cricket) obdurate, they didn't allow to flow in any way.

I have a slight technical issue with Compton in that I'm not convinced the blade is coming down straight, which will land him in all kinds of trouble vs this or better attacks.

We won't know how good 232 all out until this time tomorrow afternoon. Personally think NZ will also make less than 300.

Boycott is OK in small doses, but he's been on TMS for ages today and he's winding me the fuck up now.

I'm off to make a cuppa and grab some custard creams and hope that Aggers is back on soon.

I followed Boycott halfway round the Northants ground about 20 odd years ago pestering him for his autograph (i was about 14). The entire time he was lecturing Rob Bailey the Northants No.3 Batsman that 73 was not a century and you don't get into the England team making 73's, you must go on and make 100's, it was one of the most monotone and one sided conversations i have ever witnessed..

Having personally done business with Boycott, I found him to be an awkward and very self opinionated bloke, not a particularly likeable fellow. But.......fair do's.......put his personality to one side, the guy is probably one of the most knowledgeable and interesting people around when it comes to test match cricket.

194-7 Southee out after adding a few quick runs. This is starting to look like a single innings shoot out. The way we have been batting the 9/2 on offer for a NZ win looks attractive. Ooooh 195-8 Anderson with a five-fer

Fantastic from jimmy, when you think back to him breaking into the England XI and the 18 months or so that he was out of form he could quite easily be up alongside beefy...
We need to bat till the final session tomorrow and get them back in, it should only take us a day to bowl them out again.

In the end I couldn't bear it and had twenty quid on NZ at 11/2. The teams are poles apart in the rankings but on form and in this game, it tight and the odds are a value punt.

oh Scottie, you've really put the mockers on this one, I think we'll be lucky to see out the final session at this rate. ...

I really wish England would stop using nightwatchmen all the time. Even if Finn survives the last few overs today, all he'll do tomorrow morning is slow the run rate down when England could do with scoring at a decent rate, or he'll get out early and give the NZ bowlers an early boost.

Bad end to the day. We need another 50 - 60 tomorrow at the very least, with McCullum and Taylor capable of hitting fast 50s.

Going to be a tense day all round tomorrow!!
