Zaha and his agent really underestimated the Palace chairman when he signed that new contract.

I'm not blaming him for signing it but most teams in this league are in a strong financial position and won't budge from their valuation.

I don't think it is to be honest. What would a club like Palace be able to do with that money now? They couldn't even sign anyone half as good as Zaha given the time left in the window.

Zaha single handedly kept them in the league last season and for a club like Palace he's practically priceless.

Would you rather have £70M in the bank and a couple of additional turds in the squad...

...or be relegated?

I know what I'd choose.
You're right. I mean that it's ludicrous from the buyer's perspective. From the Palace side I get it, although that depends on his attitude really. I'm surprised he's not gone AWOL to force a move, as it's clear that they won't sell him otherwise.

Everton offered 70m + McCarthy (permanent) and Tosun (loan) but Palace rejected it saying they wanted 100m!

Zaha is reportedly furious and feels that Palace had assured him that reasonable offers would be accepted.

Feels like it'll be a deadline day deal if it's gonn happen at all. Could only see us going in for him if all our other targets fall through.

I get that Palace wanna keep him but they're being a little unreasonable IMO.
I imagine Parish thinks that Everton aren't a huge step up from Palace too.

Same rubbish as every year. Zaha seems to think he has an agreement to leave, Palace reject every offer and he ends up staying, he signs a new deal - repeat endlessly

It's his own fault tbf. This situation could have easily been resolved he putting himself into a position of power by not signing a new contract and letting it enter the final 2 years.

Just makes me glad Levy hasn’t bothered this year

I used to think he was stupid for signing new contracts, but im now of the opinion that he's happy being a big fish in a small pond and just fakes wanting to leave every summer in order to get better and better wages

Just reported in Sky Sports that Zaha has submitted a transfer request. It couldn't be, could it?

It's almost impossible to feel sorry for Zaha, I certainly don't but equally I don't think Palace have handled this at all well. They've continued to cling on to him by massivly over-inflating his value.

Spurs have been in this position numerous times with Bale, Berba, Modric etc and when your best player has outgrown your club you just have to accept it and get a respectable deal. Palace don't NEED the money they're asking for (e.g. 80-100m) and if they had done a deal for around 60-70m instead - which they were offered - they could have properly re-invested it in a striker that they desperately need.

They also wouldn't have reached this unsavoury outcome with the player which could tarnish his time at the club.

Only three days until Zaha signs his new deal and claims great loyalty to palace, before crying about it in November and saying he deserves CL football.

Wasn't there a bit of ITK zaha may come but it was unlikely? Well I wonder if it's more likely with him handing in a transfer request

Still reckon Palace are better off forcing him to stay then trying to find apt replacements for £60-70 million in this ridiculous market.

Higher chance of them going down if they sold him, regardless of who they brought in IMO.

Could have gone to a CL club the last 3 summers. Settles to force a move to Everton 24 hours prior to deadline day. TOUGH.

It's a bit silly handing a transfer request in 24 hours before the window shuts when your club want 100m.

Didn’t hand in a transfer request when Arsenal were in for for him but did to force through a move to Everton?

Doesn’t make sense, unless someone else is planning to move for him....

I mean, I'm a big fan of Zaha, but if it's true that Palace turned down an offer of £70m plus two players, that's just absolutely ludicrous.

I'd still be happy to take him on deadline day if all else failed, but not at anywhere near £100m, and I'd have no faith in getting a deal done quickly.

Mccarthy is a crock and Tosun is shit. That's more a case of Everton trying to lump over players they don't want themselves.

The only club who could afford the silly numbers Palace want for him is United, really. That worked out real well for him last time:ROFLMAO:

I think he probably thought he didn't need to as Arsenal would come back. They didn't so then he started putting stories out about us and wanting to join, then Everton started bidding so he's obviously thought 'last chance'.

He's played his hand ever so badly.
