Been having a bit of a play in the PL stats site this afternoon. Interesting that for all the perceived good lamela and moura have done this season. Neither has created a big chance in 20 appearances and just 1 assist. Both also have more backward passes than forward although that might be normal as quite high up pitch not sure. But without eriksen and dele firing we are definitely lacking the final ball in the final third.

I believe ITK stated it may be easier to offload in January as teams may be desperate to get player in. Fingers crossed for Janssen and GKN at the very least. Wanyama would be a prime candidate for me as well to move in January, his fitness is a major issue and I think we desperately need a holding/defensive midfielder in. That would open a HG spot as well that we would be able to plug in.

We've given Lamela and Dembele a lot more time to get over injuries than we'd be giving Vic if we looked to offload him in January. It depends what the prognosis is, but if he's fit enough for somebody else to buy, he's fit enough to stay with us IMO. An on form Wanyama is a beast of a player and would be my number 1 DM option.

We haven't seen that player in so long though, although I do see what you're saying regarding Lamela and Dembele.

The stories of it being a recurring injury are what concern me the most. Its knee injury after knee injury now, he just doesn't look the same on the pitch either. He looks lumbering and not the same player he was 2 seasons ago.

Like I said, it depends what the prognosis is, but if he's got that much of a problem nobody will buy him and he won't pass a medical. I'm hoping he just needs time to heal properly since knee problems can take ages to get over.

No idea not my job lol. But someone £10m better than what we got.

That's a pretty dangerous way to approach transfers imo. Just because somebody is £10m more expensive doesn't mean they are £10m better - plenty of examples of that. And why stop at just three players? Why not an entire back 5? Or the whole starting 11? The answer is that it isn't that simple.

It's not that I disagree with your valuations of the 3 you mentioned, or that £35m fullbacks would be bad players, but those transfers would depend on the players themselves agreeing to leave and other clubs willing to pay their wages. I don't think that would be an easy thing for all parties to agree on.

I would say that a more reasonable target this January would be to move on 3 or 4 of the deadwood players (perhaps Vorm, Janssen, GKN and Onomah if he's not rated by Poch) and make just 1 or 2 additions that can provide cover and hopefully long-term competition at CM and/or LB. Something more like £30-40m out and £40-50m in. It doesn't solve everything, but with the way the January window often goes this would be a good time to setup for next Summer.

I think there are massive differences in the types of passers that Lamela and Alli are compared to Winks & Eriksen. We need another player who can dictate tempo. Alli at times is painfully slow on the ball most of the time. Midfielder is sort of like point guard in basketball where you need to setup players and get everyone involved, I don't think Alli and Lamela play with that sort of style. And not to mention 3 of those 4 are primarily attacking midfield players.

The best teams in the world play with passers in the middle of the pitch, not dribblers.

Football is a team game. It doesn’t go down to whether you use a passer or a dribbler in CM. If using a passer were clearly better everyone would be using it.
It’s more about how the players combine. We play aggressive and we don’t score by passing the ball 50 times. Playing with someone like Winks makes you gain more possession but less penetration. No to mention less presence in the middle.
Our best games were with a CM like Dembele imo. A player like that combines better with the rest of our players
We don’t need another one dictating tempo, we need someone to create space by breaking lines
We play more like Atl. Madrid than Barcelona. To play like Barcelona like you want to, you need top top players

I mean pretty much all of the top teams do that... City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barca, PSG, Bayern, Napoli.

Bale was terrible at LB for us, there's a reason why Benoit Assou-Ekotto was brought back in from the dark to play there. I said Bale was "relatively" poor because he did start off very well for us, especially with goals against Fulham and Arsenal. But after that, he was poor.

Also, please try to read my post properly before taking such an aggressive tone. I was comparing the way they were nurtured, not their abilities. If i was trying to point score, which you seem to be doing, I'd say that Sessegnon hugely outscored Bale by the same age.

I don't understand aggressive tone and point scoring..ermm what?

We disagree on sessengnon, you clearly rate him. I think hes a huff and puff player though a decent one. It's OK to disagree. I've mentioned before in one of the threads he could make it as a striker as he has that nose for tap ins: right place right time but in my opinion doesn't have the 'feet' to play wide attacking. He's not exciting technically, his crossing is not trippier level (and look at the stick. He gets on here). If he makes it big it will be as a left back.

Without looking I'm pretty sure you are right on him out scoring bale at the same age. But then Bale was playing left back for Southampton and sess as wide forward. The type of goals Bale was scoring though.. Oooooohhhhh.. Ooooowewwwwffffff. Pure technique of free kicks, bangers. Bale was special even then, you could just see it. I don't see much in sess.

Just so you know I wasn't looking to bring bad vibes. If it was direct it was just that, I didn't put a tone on it, it was just opinion exhanging to me. No wicked thoughts on my part. I remember your user name so I must respect your posts. I don't remember many..

One signing in the centre of midfield would be good for me this Winter if Wanyama doesn't find his form.
We probably need to accept Dembele is exceptional on the ball so hard to replace like for like. I'm personally not convinced on Ndombele - I like him but worried his heavy 2nd touch style to create space wouldn't work as well in the PL. Winks seems to bring the ball out and get away from his man more fluidly.
Diawara looks a better fit for me. He sprays the ball quicker out to the Full-Backs and more direct which suits our style.

Not sure who in the PL would suit us best, but I think we should look there first if we manage any business above both Ndombele & Diawara

All the uber rich teams that spend over 70m on a player (and Napoli). Which enforces what i’ve said. You need top top players to play that way

We are not that kind of team.

Sess is 18 and has bags of potential and therefore has time to improve though, also Trippier doesn't get stick for his crossing he gets stick for his defending and it's highly doubtful that he was as good as crossing at 18 as he is now so I don't understand the reference?

People really have strange ways of evaluating players sometimes, seems like that if they don't have an abundance of tricks and feints or aren't as flashy as others then they're average and will probably end up as an okay player, I don't understand? The complete irony here of course is that the reference here is Bale who ended up a completely different player to the one we all thought he was gonna be at Southampton and his early years at Spurs so if that tells you anything is that don't write off players too early especially since we're talking about a player who has achieved as much as he has this early in his career.

I do agree that he will make it as a LB though, I think he has the raw tools and if he works with a coach who can improve the defensive side of his game like Poch then I reckon he could be a monster LB/LWB.

I responded to the line where you said "If using a passer were clearly better everyone would be using it", the best teams in the world do use that system. Others ones try as well, hence why Liverpool spent big on MF this summer and ManU continue to look for improvements there like Fred this summer. Meaning it clearly is thought of as the better way to play.

I don't see budget as a valid excuse, its about scouting and getting the players in. We have great CBs and attacking midfield players, only one of those was for a huge amount.

Ok, let's review what it's been said because you are mixing things.
Passer or dribbler in the CM. I said there's not a better kind of CM or else everyone would be using it. Everyone means everyone, not the best teams. Huddersfield or Augsburg don’t play like that, because you need top players like I’ve said, and because it doesn't fit their style.
Liverpool and Man U didn't try. They bought midfielders but none are passers who dictate tempo like you want. Chelsea bought one because Sarri likes to play like that. They didn't need one before
Bottom line is we can go for a passer or a dribbler, but there's no winning formula. In my opinion a b2b dribbler suits us better. Suits our style better and suits our squad better.

Its a waste of time comparing us to every team in European football. To me, Fred was absolutely supposed to be a passing CM, he hasn't lived up to that yet, but it was an attempt to improve upon Herrera. Fabinho was thought of as a more progressive/new age DM where he was a good player going forwards, I'm not in tune enough with Keitas play style.

We should try to do what the other top teams in the world do, which is passing in the center of the pitch. I don't care how freaking Augsburg does it.

I'm interested in how you think that suits our style better or our squad. Just trying to see your thoughts on that.

the only team you mentioned there that can buy whoever they like is Napoli. I know Bayern don't spend a fortune, but there history and dominance in Germany gets them the players.

Real Madrid from what research I've done haven't spent over 30mil on any of their central midfielders. Neither have PSG. Scouting, scouting, scouting.

the season we finished 2nd Wanyama and Dembele where big factors and put the style we play better at in full view.

the fast and quick 1-2's around the area usually end up with Man C's speedy skilful players creating for each other. I don't think we have the players to fit that style or the money to go out and buy them (my opinion)

that's because they can pick players off other teams in there own league by their history and what they can pay the players
