Tottenham ready to hijack William Saliba transfer and blow Arsenal out of the water

Tottenham are ready to hijack Arsenal’s deal for young defender William Saliba, with the Gunners unwilling to pay a hefty fee up front this summer.

Arsenal were close to finalising a deal with Saint Etienne, though have been in talks over a payment structure weighted towards next summer with the French side adamant that the 18-year-old returns on loan for the 2019-20 season following any deal.

A small payment this summer would ensure that Unai Emerykeeps the majority of his £40million transfer kitty to spend ahead of the new season while also landing an exciting prospect in a year’s time.

Tottenham, however, have more money to spend this summer thanks to their run to the Champions League final, as well as not signing any players for the two windows previous to this one.

Spurs are now ready to blow Arsenal out of the water with an upfront offer to prise the highly-rated defender away from their fierce rivals, a day after club captain Laurent Koscielny attempted to force his way out of the club by refusing to travel on the pre-season tour of the United States.

Tottenham have already signed midfielder Tanguay Ndombele and Leeds youngster Jack Clarke this summer, with the latter returning to Elland Road on a season long loan.

With Toby Alderweireld - who can leave north London for £25million before the final two weeks of the window - edging towards an exit and Jan Vertonghen having a contract until next season, Mauricio Pochettino is likely to need defensive reinforcements next summer

Assuming StE didn't agree a deal with Arsenal, then they may not be able to come back into it. The player may have given his word to Arsenal but it's not like a player would need a gun to their head to choose us instead these days!

Arsenal are not out of the running yet. They could get koscielny to put in a few good words for them.

Has to be something serious to this. If we end up trying to sign him but 'failing' - even if it is just to bump the price they pay for him - we will end up coming out of it looking like the losers in the deal and that he favoured them over us, giving them ammunition to start taking the piss. I doubt we'd faff about with this at this stage just for the sake of making them pay a few more mill, unless we were confident on a deal going through.

Makes sense if Toby is going. He may see a decent chance of making it into our starting 11 or back up CB options initially. Though it’s been well reported that the player himself is insisting on staying in France for another season of development.

If it is, then Herc also said he's now "expected to join".

I don't give two fucks about the transfer itself, but he's the man THEY want. Get him in.

I reckon he’ll go to the Gooners. Feels like it was a long way down the round so 70:30 I reckon he goes there.

Would be nice to nab him though. Relaxed either way really

If he's already agreed with them in principle he should stick to his word despite a bigger club coming along, Willian was a **** .

Still be hilarious if he goes back on it

They may try to get one back on us by activating Toby’s clause...we’d get the better deal long term (if this kids signs) but it’ll be hard seeing Toby playing for those ****’s next season!

I'm not confident but my optimism is real being as SSN reported it as pretty well a done deal to Arsenal this morning. He may still go to them but I can't help thinking a couple of years ago nobody would have even taken this seriously.

Considering they wanted to pay nothing up front for Saliba, any move for Toby would probably have happened regardless

This will be easier to take as we have the last laugh, and particularly when we had experienced the Sol effect already.

Ok lets look at it.
Reasons to go to spurs. Cl football, got to the final last season. Lloris and sissoko already there and joined by one of frances up and coming stars for big money.
Look at arsenal. Their french captain doesn't want to be there to the point he is refusing to go on tour with them. An aging squad and are struggling to afford players.

He would be mad to pick them over us.
