Well regardless, the actual wording of Herc's initial post doesn't rule this out.
I'm halfway hoping that these reports from Bouhafsi and Ornstein are true AND that it's not Herc's mystery player. Clarke, Saliba, Sessegnon and potentially a fourth would be some stockpile of teenage talent. I suspect this is probably Herc's player though, the nature of the transfer would explain the need for secrecy.

This is the first thing I thought of when I saw this.
The report apparently says that we've bid over what Saint-Etienne were actually asking for him. My guess is that we now expect Toby to head to Roma, and we've bid over the amount because we want him for this season, and don't want to send him back on loan.

We must be shifting Toby to Roma. Shame to see him go but if it is indeed the Italians and we replace him with by all accounts a great CB prospect i will be delighted.

Im sure one of the ITK said something about players from rival london clubs wanting us but we will wait to make our move or something along the lines of that
We wouldn't be getting Saliba until next summer though, so the possible transfer indicates to me that Toby will be staying one more year. Unless Poch think Foyth & Dier are good enough back up to Sanchez & Vertonghen

If true would be interesting to see if we would loan him back. As for Toby I think his wage demands will e too high for Roma. Would not rule out toby doing his last year with us and saliba joining us next summer as his replacement
