Who would be the biggest loss to our team if Madrid came calling in the summer?

Bit of a bitch mentality thread. We're not a team hoping to maybe get top 4 anymore, we're a team capable of winning the league now. Of course any of our players would choose to go to Madrid but it's a hell of a lot more easy to make them not even think about that anymore.

The players at this club know that we could win the league in the next 3 years whereas in the past players knew they'd have to move to achieve that. In terms of PL vs La Liga they'd all choose winning PL and if they do that one of next two or three seasons to be honest I'd happily let any of them go to Madrid to get that CL winners medal and a bit of sunshine.

Couldn't agree more. Any would start an exodus

Levy wouldn't let an exodus happen... All our important players, with the exception of Toby, signed long term contracts in September/October.
I know we've had instances previously where one unhappy player might push through a transfer successfully, but never have we had a mass exodus - could have happened when Bale/Modric/Berbatov left, but it didn't, and you can bet your bottom dollar no more than one would be allowed to leave for a PL team.

Potentially because we don't pay the highest wages keeping a team together for 3 years or more may prove tricky if we continue to perform like we have.
Most if not all are at some point seduced by the amount of lolly that is paid by some of the other clubs causing heads to turn and unsettled players.

If our talisman who is 'one of our own' isn't convinced enough to stay, the other players, who were all bought in, would definitely not be convinced to stay.

I'm not saying they'll all go, but Kane leaving would leave us vulnerable.

If any of the others go, even Eriksen, Alderweireld or Ali, it's a mercenary that's leaving.

the biggest loss would be the fat git know it all who sits in the upper east stand .. he keeps on turning up with a fucking flat cap on ... i think he could really inspire Rona;do/Bale with his attire

Not sure they will. They spent a fortune on Bale and that didn't work out and with bigger names to sign I think they will leave us alone for now. More likely to have Utd and City trying to get players off of us.

I like any true supporter don't want any one to leave but it is another season without a trophy and we don't pay the best wages plus we haven't come close in both European competitions. Good players want to win things and if the top clubs come in for some of our players some will go.
I have a feeling that Dier and Walker might go and if Real or City offer 100 ml for Ali Levy would take it. If Levy was offered close to 200 ml for those three I'm sure he would take it especially as he is still looking for funding for the new stadium.
I'm sure there will be big offers in the summer for some of our players and in the end it will be down to Levy's resolve.

I assume the OP is a Madrid spy wanting the benefit of the in depth analysis of SC, so on that basis it has to be someone who has not just played for Spurs but been a star for his country at a major tournament and there is only one player that fits that bill in our squad, it would be a huge blow to lose him but when Madrid come calling you have to accept it, so I guess we will have to sell them Moussa Sissoko ;)

Daniel Levy

Hated by many, and made several bad decisions during his tenure but it his dream that has got us this far. The new training ground and stadium will be a long lasting legacy to what he has achieved.

As Poch said the team have developed ahead of schedule so just hope that most are still here to see the fruit of his labours and to start the new Spurs dynasty.

I cant agree with that im afraid for all the flak we give levy he does not let any player we want to keep leave without a massive fight and even then said player has to pretty much strike and then the buying club has to pay through the nose
Danny boy can be frustrating at times but he is nobody's fool any more.

Do you believe that this makes a difference to the likes of Madrid ? All a long term contract will do is hike up the price they will pay...nothing more.

But that's sort of the point isn't it?

As good as they are Kane and Alli are not the best players in their position in the world. Given their age and length of contract their transfer would be huge.

Real Madrid are not exactly known for developing young talent. They pay for the best and want them in their prime.

I can't see them putting in a world record bid, which is what it would take, to buy Alli.

Anyone. We're at a stage where losing any single (first XI) player would be an absolute tragedy. Not merely footballing terms, but it could be a domino effect for losing other players that would see the departure of one player as a sign of a lack of club ambition.

Plus it would get all the media whores screaming about how we're a selling club. Take Hugo for example. Is he an irreplaceable goalkeeper ability wise? No, certainly not. And I'm not saying that because of the goal he conceded against Chelsea. Generally speaking, he's not great on the ball and his goalkeeping isn't always world class. However if we were to lose him, it would give rise to all the factors I've mentioned above.

So at the present stage, given that we're only really now cementing our place as a top side in English football (i.e. challenging for the title consistently and/or qualifying regularly for CL football), any rocking of the boat could see us back in 5th-6th next season.

Should we continue as we are for the next few seasons, and perhaps achieve some success and win major honours, then you'd breathe a little easier and fancy our chances of recovery should we say, lose a Dele Alli.

I point to Man Utd as an example, where during Fergie's reign they lost a few world class players but always managed to recover.
