Yes I'm tempting fate here. But as I don't believe in fate I'm asking the question.

Where will we finish this season? With 8 games to go for most teams, the league currently stands at:

Chelsea played 30 points 72
Spurs played 30 points 65
Liverpool played 31 points 60
Man City played 30 points 58
Arsenal played 29 points 54
Man Utd played 29 points 54
Everton played 31 points 51

I believe Everton's slim hopes of top four were over once they lost to Liverpool.

With Chelsea beating City but losing to Palace I guess we have a slight hope but I can't see it happening.

5 points ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand and 7 ahead of City gives great confidence. I believe we'll get second.

Just wanted to raise a poll to gauge what the common consensus is right now.

We could have a little wobble, with injuries starting to stack up. Arsenal, West Ham, Man u, and Leicester will be tough fixtures, that you could see us losing. Personally I see us beating Arsenal, and West Ham, drawing with Man Utd, and possibly losing to Leicester (just because their form is so good at the moment). I want to be able to say that we will finish second, but after being disappointed at the final hurdle so often, I am steeling myself to accept 3rd.

Third is absolute minimum requirement when we're in this position. Second is great. First is dreamland.

I'm very confident that we'll finally finish top two without a horrible slip-up this season.

Now they have beaten Man City, I can't see Chelski dropping enough points to let us catch up. The points difference we have now will probably be the same at the end of the season assuming we don't slip up.

If they would have beaten palace and lost to city would you still think the same way?

It would be a balls up if we didn't finish 2nd now, and if we still have a 7 point gap over City and a 5 point gap over Liverpool (with a game in hand) after our next two very winnable home games then even I would confidently say we'll finish 2nd.

The only thing that is potentially going to cause us issues is our mounting injury issues. We really cannot afford too many more injuries, as after Watford and Bournemouth (not to be complacent about them of course) every game is a tricky one.

I can see 2 scenarios. We're absolutely relentless and catch Chelsea finally overcoming them at home to Man Utd, and our by then superior GD gives us the league, or we go to Leicester who beat us to give it to Chelsea.

Which ones more Spursy? Depends if we really did learn a harsh lesson last season or not.

Last day of the season we will be praying our goal difference holds off WBA as we cling onto 7th place. But things look precarious as Hull go 6-0 up on the half hour mark...

Ugh, were as far ahead of those below as we are behind chelsea. Nothing to play for in april. Wont get caught, wont move up. Reminds me of the 90s. Boring

I can't believe I'm saying this as a seriously long suffering Spurs fan, but:

1) last night, when it got to 1-1, I genuinely believed that we had a chance of winning, and so it proved
2) I think, even with our injuries, we now have enough of a gap to get second.

Talk about tempting fate - but I do think we have enough, despite last season's well documented end of season troubles.

I'd love to get first but they're a good side with too big a gap. Second would be an absolutely incredible achievement when you look at the teams around us

Would be bloody lovely to get Lloris, Rose, Wanyama and Kane back though - that can't happen soon enough.

Davies was pretty iffy last night - get well soon Danny

The great thing about last night is what it'll do for the guys confidence, if something similar to last night were to happen again then they will remember this match and believe it can be done again.

There is one thing I am certain of, we are now at that stage if we don't maintain our current position of 2nd, the pundits and media will be bleating " Spurs has come 3rd in a two horse race for the 2nd year on the trot!".

Next 3 games tell the story. If we can get through the next 3 games with wins (Watford (H), Bournemouth (H), Palace (A)), which I believe is quite possible then I think we're safe for CL. From there it's danger games and banana skins all the way in which will make it nerve wracking.

Late April we should be getting a couple of players back from injury just in time to face Arsenal and inject a bit more spark into the team - I'm looking at you Danny and Harry! This could set up a very tense finish to the season
