Balague on 5 Live tonight. They had a discussion about forwards who might move this window, and someone mentioned Spurs in passing. Balague then came back to it, unprompted, and declared to everyone that Spurs have no money.

Which I take to mean that we do, in fact, have money.

Balague is a fucking tool. Don't understand why he's wheeled out on TV/the radio so much when he clearly knows absolutely nothing. The only conclusion I can come to is that he's the Spanish guy with the best level of English they can find so he gets work off the back of that as opposed to his actual analysis.

He's close with Poch so I'd say he knows a thing or two, never used to take him seriously until he published that book.

Yeah I get that he's close with Poch/his family, but even still Poch doesn't strike me as stupid in the slightest so I can't imagine he's poured his heart out to Balague about our transfer situation. He's just making the obvious point that we've spent a lot of money on the stadium and delays so we won't be spending money in January. It's a pretty logical conclusion to come to regardless of whether you're best mates with Poch or not

I don't think it is logical at all.

I don't think it is logical at all.

How so? We're a club that are (rightly or wrongly) "notorious" for not slashing out on transfers, especially in January, plus we now also are in the middle of an increasingly costly stadium project. So how is it in any way complicated to make the prediction that this January we're not likely to spend much money? Making that prediction requires absolutely zero insider knowledge from Poch, it's more likely to be true than not just from basic common sense, regardless of any kind of ITK. It might not turn out to be the case, but if you were asked right now, gun to your head, whether you thought we'd splash out in January or not I think the majority of people would say probably not.

All based on Balague interview "and declared to everyone that Spurs have no money".
There is no logic to that, have we spent all the finance we have to buy players on something else completely? that is illogical and my logic ells me otherwise whether we buy anybody in January or not.
Different logic tells me the odds are high that we may lose Eriksen and Alderwiereld in the summer and the good business plan would be to get in the replacement before selling clubs know how much we sold them for.

Could see it in the same window but no way we would buy in this window in anticipation.

Just because someone asked in the ITK thread, here is the whole interview. No clue if it is geo-locked:

Interestingly Raphael Honnigstein immediately responds after Balague, to an extent refuting the claim. The whole thing is a very small blurb around 17:00 min mark. Not saying I would put much stock into either, but for those who wish to listen first hand.

Maybe Balague is helping us with the no money statement so that if we do go for a player we get them cheaper than if he said they have loads of money?

The whole Sky team making sly digs about us in the post match analysis was shocking really.

We’ve just turned a game around, had 3 forwards injured with a 4th injured in the game and they go on about the squad.

Imagine Liverpool having Salah, Mane and Firminho out and then losing Sharqui. They would look weak up front too.
