Assuming both Son and Lucas start they will have to be a little cautious with the pace those two have. One break and they have to score 3.

Looking back through the years it's clear that certain teams dominate for periods of time, who's to say in 10 or 20 years from now a different 4/5 teams won't do the same. Oil won't last forever

Yep and a very good chance that will happen, though when it does I expect the money to fall out the game. That will be because they introduce a super league, or 4 or 5 teams are bought by other rich owners that want a play thing.

One really big worry is if Spam are ever sold the OS, and some nutter comes along ala City

I actually think that, while the lower sides are further behind than ever, there’s no reduction in their quality, just an improvement in the quality of the top sides. That there are six sides who you could suggest as champions without being ridiculed is more than any other league, surely that is competitive no?

Throw in the fact that the last three champions have been different sides and it’s actually quite refreshing for me, having grown up seeing only two sides win the title in 9 successive seasons (96-05) and then Chelsea effectively replaced arsenal and only two sides won the pot for the next 7 seasons. However, in the 7 seasons since, four different sides have won the title, and thus year it might become five in eight. No other top league can offer that.

Would anyone really be surprised if they put more than 3 goals against us though? They are odds on to qualify despite us leading the tie.

Yes we are a threat and an away goal could be key but City rightly expect to beat everyone at home, and often win by more than a 1 goal margin, including against us.

You'd think there'd be more nervous fans for sure, but it's not a massive leap of faith. That said the last two games between the sides were very tight, hopefully we can do the same again. I can see us nicking a draw of scraping through 2-1 to be fair...

I'd love to see that thread if we do knock them out though. Hope the lads beat some respect into them over the next two games.

I have said a few times when we played Liverpool and man city in the last few seasons we been playing more defensive which just doesn't suit us. If we go after city playing our game then I think we get a draw or snatch a win. If we play to nullify man city by being more defensive then we lose cos they have players to unlock any defence

IMO that is what we have been doing wrong before. Naively going to City/Liverpool thinking that we will just play our game.

In the same sense Madrid had the players to unlock and defense last season and we beat them 3-1. Which is why I want us to employ similar tactics against City. Catch them napping on the counter, score a goal and the pressure is all on them. We just have to be defensively sound and be ready to pounce on any mistake.

We played our game in the first leg and last 20 mins of the Liverpool game and were the better team. When we drew 2-2 bit should have beaten Liverpool last season we sat back and got battered, then we started to press and again should have won. If we don't press they get time.

Do you think we can hold out by sitting back? We need to press.

I wouldn't park the proverbial bus, but we do need to be defensive minded in our approach to the game.

If we play too open and expansive they will exploit the spaces we leave in order to play this way. We should press with the intention of counter attacking, but not to the point where we leave gaps for their attackers to exploit.

City want us to press. They know they are good enough to play their way out of it.

We pressed them last week and restricted them to two shots on target, I think they were only able to successfully play through the press a couple of times last week, one was the chance for Sterling early in the 2nd half and there were a couple of Aguero chances which he put wide.

I honestly think, against my better judgement, that if we score first we’ll go through.

They’ll come out flying. Got to be solid in that first half. Weather that inevitable storm and we might just be ok. Can’t wait.

First 30 mins is massive. Get through that and you never know.

Attacking wise they are scary no doubt but defensively they can really be got at with son & moura running at them.
