Harry Kane has been battered in recent weeks too. One dip in form and everyone is on his case. First because he claimed a goal (God forbid) that wasn't obvious. Then for being nominated young player of the year (so he's to blame for his age is he?). Now supposedly Smalling had him in his pocket (well done for keeping him quiete for once).

Now we're getting rumours about Real Madrid coming for Pochettino because he said 'or another' in an interview. Clearly he doesn't assume the board will keep him which is the right attitude to have. It doesn't stop people jumping on it though.

Talk about getting kicked when you're down. It's a good job Poch has built a strong attitude in the squad to handle all the shit aimed at them. I still fancy us to finish 3rd which for a season away from our home is still a good season.
This is the right moment to let the squad understand the baiting and fuel our determination to succeed

Win a cup and stop collapsing/bottling/failing to get over the line when it matters and all the piss taking will soon stop. Until then we’ll have to suck it up....

That's bollocks! You think winning a cup will make everyone talk about us in a kind light... There will always be a stick to be beaten with, by oppo. fans, media pundits, spurs fans in here...
Win a cup? havent won the league!
Win the league? Havent won CL etc.

If you think losing 2-1 to man. utd in a semi final counts as collapsing or bottling it, you're part of the problem. You are the one peddling that whole sack of shit round this place. They are a good team, they won a tight game. Its a shame.

I’ve heard it all now, “I’m part of the problem”..... Jesus wept!
The real problem is how people are lapping up failure and polishing it up as success. NOBODY remembers losers or also rans. Very few on here remember the 86/87 team as they ended up with sweet fa. That team WAS bloody good enough but ultimately failed. This current team is good enough but constantly fails in the decisive games. Kid yourself as much as you like, polish that 4th place cup if you will, buy ultimately when it matters it’s failed. Until this team turns potential into silverware it will continue to be questioned and rightly so.

I’ll leave you and the rest of your happy clapping community to celebrate failure in yet another semi final!!!

I'm not celebrating it?!
I'm disappointed, same as you... I'm just not seeing that set-back as the end of it all!
As long as i continue to feel the upward trajectory we are on, then i'm happy with where we are heading.

If you think we have overtaken Man Utd, i think you may be getting ahead of yourself - If you accept we havent, then: why so sad, brah?

I'm gutted. I think everyone at the club is gutted. But, we lost in a tight match with 2 reasonably well matched teams. Its football, it can go either way - hopefully we can continue to grow from that disappointing experience.

You are part of the problem if you allow your expectations to run wild and then jump on the players and managers backs when they don't fulfill your fantasies...

Finally, just to clarify - none of this is meant as a slight at you at all - I have an inherent like of you as a fellow spurs fan - but more as a "hey man, don't be down, its disappointing - but we can still make waves, theres plenty to be optimistic about...COYS!"

It really does annoy me when people say we bottled it every time we lose a game like that. This team has been through a lot over the last 4 years. What they don't have is the years of winning trophies that Utd and Mourinho have. They know how to get it done in these games and we haven't found the solution yet. It was actually a really close game that could have gone either way. It wasn't like we got outplayed or even fell apart in defence and conceded 5.

We're not legends. We're just learning and growing as a team. We're not as big a club as some of our fans want to believe. We're still punching above our weight and will do for a bit yet. Multiple seasons in the Champions League and the new Stadium will get us there I'm sure. For now though we're the underdogs. Utd and Liverpool have many years of trophies in their history. Chelsea and City have bought their way into that bracket. We're doing things our own way.

I agree with Pochettino. It could be another 4 years before we build that winning mentality. That's not to say we wont win anything in thw meantime. It will just take more than 1 trophy to get that. We have to put things into perspective and realize that our trophy cabinet is still similar to the likes of Aston Villa and Everton. We've now pushed on so of the course the expectation has increased.

So, would you rather have the FA Cup in the trophy cabinet or be in the CL next season? The 4th place cup as you call it is vital to our development and will fill the stadium next season.

My God that is so true, and by the way, United are no better than we are, I know that for a fact, despite having spent hundreds of millions more than we have on their squad.

Unfortunately, in semi-finals, one team has to lose and one has to win. I fully expect us to batter Watford on Monday, and everything will be cushty again. Trust me.

I've accepted the season is over and its just a matter of who finishes 3rd or 4th between us and pool. Both clubs are to good to throw away top 4 plus the chavs are still not that good. Just going to enjoy the last few games.

Why cant we have both. We have the team.

We can't have both because we got knocked out of the FA Cup. The post I was replying to seemed to infer that the '4th place cup' wasn't as important as an FA Cup win. In the short term that may be so, but cementing a CL spot is more important to the continuing development of the team IMO. If we can continue to improve and attract players/keep what we've got, we may end up in a position where we can have both, but we're trying to complete with teams that have spent hundreds of millions to be where they are and we need to keep our revenue up.

Like it did for Wenger?

Arsenal can't stop winning cups but they are still getting called weak and flakey legends every year.
