Can the mods start introducing banning orders for everyone and anyone who gets caught up in these ludicrous discussions on a club's 'bigness'? It's a daft conversation that is entirely partisan and, like any abstract concept, entirely unprovable.
You seem to spend a lot of time on this forum telling people off mate, lighten up a bit.

I checked. We've consistently finished ahead of them since the 2009/10 season, when we qualified for the Champions League for the first time. Prior to that, we'd finish ahead of them about half the time, perhaps slightly more. They have only finished ahead of us once since 2009/10. Here's a table.

I'm of the view that this constitutes temporary form, in terms of the history of two large clubs of similar size. We are not "miles bigger" than Everton. We've just been better-run over the past 16 years.

The gap has got a bigger, will they make up a 25 point gap this season, if they half that they will have done well.

Let's bump this thread again. On a Swedish Arsenal forum they were discussing us or more specifically discusissing how we are able to sell our players so expensively (Walker was used as an example). There were a few decent posts and some people actually said that Arsenal has a lot to learn from us. But then of course, there is always that one guy. And this guy answered with this:

"Learn something from Spurs? You'll need to read a lot before you prove them right (this sentence was a bit hard to translate to English and may not make much sense to you) . And no, I don't think the flop, as the league last season was, means that Spurs is a better team.

I tried to translate as good as I could. But yeah, apparently Arsenal's players are a lot better than ours and Wenger smashes Pochettino as a manager. Now you know.

Lets be real here....like it or not Arsenal have done it the right way too. They built (from the foundation) their stadium brought youth players through sold for big money as well. Arsenals problem was they moved to slowly in transition and were just happy to qualify for CL, with the extra revenue from the stadium and regular CL outings they were in a position to compete for established players and push on to the next level but got way toooo comfortable allowing us to catch up.

Get ready ladies and gentlemen. It's time for your first instalment of the Redcafe anthology:

Oh, Eric, if only Chairman Levy wasn't such a liar,
And could match you in terms of being solid, reliable and a tryer.
We could wrap this deal up and have ourselves a midfield deep lier,
A covering engine to compliment the slick oiled Pogba tyre.
Instead we must twiddle frustrated, recline by the lyre,
Waiting for Mr Woodward to make Mr Levy tire
Of trying to take your absurd cost price higher and higher,
Dragging this interminable shite out right down to the wire,
So that even Jim White thinks your taking the piss.

And it does beg the question: why would anyone want a well-oiled tyre/tire?

Because you can use it to make a fire,
Or even a pyre,
Or sell it to a sire,
or put it up for hire,
But I imagine they will tire,
Of trying so hard to sign Eric.

On a more relevant note, I know Dier is not a big fan of Herrera, but those two would compliment each other nicely in a midfield two with Pogba free to do whatever he pleases.

We sold Walker, we cannot under any circumstances sell Dier, I don't care if United offer 100m, it's not worth it.

I think another important contributory factor has been the whole policy of not offering players at 30 or older anything more than a one year contract extension. Whether it came from Whinger, the Board, or a combination of the two, I don't know, but there was frequent talk of players wanting more than one year, which is understandable, and being dissatisfied. At which stage would you start to look over your shoulder, observe that rather than overtaking United and Chelsea, they seemed to be pulling further away (and then City came onto the scene), and think, "In a short time I'll be lucky to get a one year contract"? When you were 29, 28? It must have seriously affected player's view that they could win silverware there.

When you look at it in terms of our players, could you imagine Alderweirild and Vertonghen wanting an improved contract but having it ruin down with the carrot of a one year extension. And the crazy thing is, they have allowed a whole host of first team players to get down to their final year again.

It might have seemed like a sensible policy when they were on the crest of a wave - they paid well, they were winning things, and it looked like they might be able to go on and dominate. Players would have wanted to be there, even for just a one year contract extension. But once it was apparent that they weren't replacing United and Chelsea had actually replaced them, getting to 28 at a club where you didn't feel like you would win trophies, where you knew that soon your contract really would be rolling down, and all you had to look forward to was another year at a club who seemed to be standing still and not winning trophies. Wouldn't you actively be thinking about finding a way out so you could spend your remaining peak years somewhere you felt more appreciated with a longer contract and might be winning things.

Fortunately for us, Levy clearly learned everything he needed to know about footballers and contracts running down from the Scum CrampBall affair. We generally don't have players with little time left on their contracts. And the likes of Alderweirild and Vertonghen seem to be getting contract extensions* based on more than how close they are to 30.

ForumPSG.com - Can't find anything about tonight's game...but they are taking the piss out of Arsenal quite heavily, so they're alright by me:

So what did PSG fans make of Tottenham following the 4-2 defeat overnight? Well, overall, they were complimentary

"Elle presse bien cette équipe de Tottenham". (This Tottenham team press well)

"C'est une belle équipe Tottenham." (Tottenham are a fine team)

"Tottenham meiilleur." (Tottenham better)

"C'est pas mal Tottenham. On s'est fait bouffer physiquement." (Tottenham aren't bad. Physically, we're getting eaten up.)

They noted the quality of Eriksen's strike, although the player who received most plaudits was Dembele - best summed up in this description of him in the lead-up to one of our goals...

"Perte de balle de Lo Celso qui a peur de se faire manger par Dembele." (Lo Celso thought Dembele was going to eat him and lost the ball) :ROFLMAO:

Their one criticism of us came when Pastore scored and they noted that our defence was "aux fraises", literally "with the strawberries". This has two translations. It either means they were dawdling around or, alternatively. they were 'having a roll in the hay' or 'getting a room' (as in 'get a room, you two'). Both, frankly could be targeted at our defence for that second goal, but, whether it's a sexual metaphor or another food reference, it's all very French.

But most of their match thread was taken up with Kevin Trapp. I learned several new and interesting French swear words, but, in a world divided by language, sometimes a picture conveys what Google Translate cannot...

Not just that, but their best years happened when they were doing something dodgy with shell companies and offshore accounts to avoid paying tax. It came out in Ray Parlour's divorce of all things. After that, the wages they paid had to drop and others began snapping up talented players.
