Er.. yes
Because although we would have been level on points with Arsenal but missed out on goal diff if it had finished a draw had we been playing 10 men we may have won the game and then would have finished above Arsenal.

lol Don't think football works like that somehow, that game didn't cost us CL, our crap form for 3 months after that game meant we didn't accumulate enough points to qualify for the CL.

Time to promote Dean again and send down Marriner.

Hope Mike Dean is our ref against Liverpool, Arsenal and Utd.
I know people like to point out the record Dean has when reffing our games, but he's horrendous for us as well.

Disagree.
I know football does work like that.
Key decisions change results and that can affect the perception of form.
Everyones ranting about man u's change of form and how Maureen has got them playing now. Take away the 5 or 6 offside goals they've been given on the bounce, give the stone wall red cards they should have received and suddenly Maureen is a prick, Ibrohimovic is over the hill and they'd be about 10pts worse off than they are.
Parkers stamp was a massive turning point not only in that game but the impact it had on that season. When you finish outside the top 4 by 1pt and gd to say those cock ups never had anything to do with it is nonsense. Of course all teams get incorrect decisions but this one was up there with the west ham sending of recently against man u after 10min which was later rescinded after they had points in the bag.
Bye bye :troll:

That's a really simplistic view of looking at things, there's no guarantee that even if we had won that match we'd have still qualified for the CL. You can look back to many factors that season, our slow start, Chris Foy, throwing it away against Arsenal, Harry not rotating, his court case, England manager distraction, not strengthening adequately in Jan etc...but to pin it on once incident like that when we still had 4 months of football to play is actually hilarious and quite delusional.

All football teams face incorrect decisions and deal with adversity, it's how you deal with it which is the true test of character, we knew what we had to do after that match and had numerous chances to up our points tally yet we still couldn't and therefore didn't deserve to finish 3rd, no need to make excuses now.

Good grief. The victim mentality on this forum lately is terrible.

Agree, it's the kind of stuff we usually post from other forums and laugh at.

Not just that, but the over confidence bordering on cockiness. There is very little to separate 2nd to 5th and all the teams have their relative strengths and weaknesses. We would do well as a fan base to recognise that you get no rewards in Jan. We shouldn't fear anyone, but a bit of perspective is needed.

Strayed into Sunderland section of not606.com & found this match report thread for next week's Sunderland Vs Tottenham...

http://www.not606.com/threads/match-report-sunderland-v-spurs-31-1-17.342535/

A 20 minute spell of madness in the first half where three mistakes cost Sunderland dearly was the difference between the two sides today.
Two goals from Kane and one O'Shea own goal sealed Sunderlands fate.
The home side began brightly with new signing Robbie Keane going close in the second minute but then Spurs took over and for the rest of the half put Sunderland under extreme pressure.

A Lescott mistake let in Kane who neatly slotted past Mannone in the twelfth minute, quickly followed by an O'Shea own goal when two defenders went for a ball which looked to be going out of play and somehow the veteran defender deflected it into his own net past a stranded Mannone.
Kane completed the scoring with an easily taken goal running through a static Sunderland defence.

In the second half Sunderland picked up their game as Spurs took their foot off the gas with the game won. In the last ten minutes, an injury to Rodwell means him missing the next month to six weeks.

David Moyes said "We have to stop giving away these goals. If you make any mistakes in this league you get punished for it and we are still making too many mistakes. We will be working on this in training"
The better news was the performance of the two under 23 players, Honeyman and Asoro, who had to be picked to play because of Sunderlands huge injury list.
