What changes can Ramos make?

Since Ekotto isn't as good as Lee, and is also permanently injured, I don't see this happening any time soon.

Wait? Are you crazy?

why you're mad SS57 .. when i said £3.5m Ekotto is one of Comolli's poor signings, you said I'm wrong then you defended him and told me to be patient and look at Ekotto in his 2nd season. so, are you changed your mind about Comolli or what ?

Also, i think he looked solid against Bolton, and I think Ramos will look at natural left footed player instead of using right footed players on left, like what we did yesterday.

Ramos can be the sticky glue that our 'individual' players need to form a winning combination.

its not a matter of buying new players, firsdt we need to start to get the best of the players we have who are all under performing.

You fucking know it mate.

There are players like BAE, Zokora, Ghaly & Kaboul who IMO, would've thrived under the likes of Mourinho & Wenger, so who's to say Ramos can't get more from these kinds of players?

we need to be looking closer to home rather than writing off our underachievers and spending more millions on personnel changes

If the January transfer window runs true to form, there won't be any significant new arrivals until the summer. Anyway, this is a squad that's supposed to be capable of challenging for a top four spot, isn't it?

Think it may be slightly different this year. I would expect at least one midfielder.

Never the less, I am sure Juande will push our defense up and close that huge gap between the defence and the midfield. That should make an instant difference. Combined with real wingers, more movement and midfielders who know what they are meant to be doing we could see a very different side without a whole host of new players.

The fact that I defended him doesn't mean he's as good as Lee. It simply means that I don't think he's complete rubbish and could become a very useful player. Is there a contradiction there? I think not.

He's also been more or less permanently injured since February.

Ok. From the Ramos regime we will see:

Harder Training - Players will be sharper and have the lungs to chase the ball down and distribute correctly. Defenders will have the concentration from the extra fitness to organise set-pieces correctly, rather than spending 2 minutes catching their breath. With Harder Training, we will see..

Squad Rotation - With players being worked and tuned harder than before, they will play less matches. Expect to see more of the Second string in the Carling Cup than ever before. Under Ramos, if a player does not perform one match, he will not be playing the next. With this in mind, we will see..

Players playing for their places, No favourites - Something that is costing us dear right now. Expect to see our youngsters to see more of a chance to play from pure hunger to get a game. Any player that isn't hungry enough just won't play.

Improved Tactics - Ramos is regarded as one of the finest tacticians out there (by all in Spain anyway). Did Sevilla have a better team than us in the UEFA last season, or did they just prey on weaknesses? Like it or not, they got under our skin and shut us out, obviously, the homework had been done.

And for now, that's all I know.

He is known for making average players look world class,so I'd say he's got plenty to work with before the next transfer window

I remember Kanoute saying he was an absolute master on the training field. Something like his regimes were inventive and meticulous, before going on to slag off BMJ.

Indeedy, how anyone can evalute and throw away BAE on what we've seen so far is beyond me.

What I have gotten from him:

Tough tackler
Decent Distribution
Good on the overlap
Good delivery

Needs to work on positional sense

But again, he's a young player who has very little experience in this league, he's also been doing the job of two men on the left when he's played, something we often take for granted with Lee, because he's so competent.

One problem with the team as i see it (defence aside) is that there is no real width. Lennons final ball is shocking and as we all know we have no option on the left, unless Bale is playing either at full back or left mid. We are not direct enough at times and dont create enough chances. Yesterday was a prime example, we were snuffed out in midfield too often and created very few meaningful chances, we have strikers would can score if more people would give them a chance - they have to create far too much for themselves at the minute.

Chimbonda does not fire balls in regularly or consistenly. He has been so disappointing this season, and it is my opinion that he should shoulder a large proportion of the blame for are current 'crisis of confidence'. He has left us short in defence far too often. I just hope he is not getting found out, after 2 relatively good seasons in the premiership.

As for the CM, well i feel that Zokora, Jenas and Huddlestone should suffice for now, provided Ramos gets more out of them and clarifies who needs to do what (something he is suposidly very good at)

We all know ledley should make a big difference, better defending and a leadership. To be honest having watched Berba in recent weeks he seems to be very good tactically, and trys to orangise the team at set pieces, we probably would be a better captain that Keane, but that wont happen.

I simply do not subscribe to throwing about more money - until we have some stability in the team. In the summer most people thought we were good enough, so why should this suddenyl have changed, we got 2 5th places with our current, if not worse team - although i do recognise that a 'beat the wife' midfielder was sought by most during the summer, including myself.

Nonetheless, i will be interested to see what Ramos gets out of Zokora, coz if he gets him playing to his strengths and gets him to hold back more we have a very strong, fit, energetic and potentially tough tackling midfielder. Let Jenas do the bombing about.

some people talk about Ramos and his rotation policy - there is no rotation about him. He plays the best avalibale teams to play the opposition (who apparently he researchs to death) at the time.

I am very happy with the Ramos appointment. For me he seems very well suited to Spurs, and i honestly believe we have made a step up from Jol and got the best possible manager we could have potentially got.

1) Extract more mileage from the players and instill a sense of fear they can be dropped
2) Hold the fort and keep us in Euro contention (ie not dead cert), at least until ENIC sells, which should be RSN.

That's probably all I'm hoping for. We can evaluate things again at the end of the season.

'Best possible manager' Fozzi quite right , people should cheer up .

Levy wants winners at the club , what more can we ask than Ramos ?

Some very good and thoughtful posts in this thread, and I absolutely agree that fitness, organisation, and making sure every player knows his job will be features of the Ramos reign.

In one of the other Ramos threads, I said that he likes to play with two holding CMs and wide players who get down the line and put crosses in (rather than cut inside), and that our squad contains very few of these players. Huddlestone is the only holding CM (and he's still learning the role), and Lennon, Routledge and young Danny Rose are our only orthodox down-the-touchline wingers.

An interesting footnote is that I seem to remember our major transfer rival for The Prince Boateng this summer was Sevilla. And yet the general consensus is that Boateng is a box-to-box CM, a Jenas type of player. Does this mean Juande thinks Boateng can play on the flanks? Or that he was going to curb his attacking runs, making him more disciplined? Or that he is prepared to change his preferred formation to play a box-to-box CM? Or even (shockhorror) that Ramos wasn't in charge of potential signings at Sevilla?

Whichever it was, my main point is that it will intriguing to see what Ramos does with our plethora of box-to-box players (Jenas, KPB, even Tainio and Malbranque if played in the middle). And if Ramos is able to teach Zokora how to play CM then he's definitely a fooking genius...

Some of our players need to much more disciplined with their positioning, something that has been evident for a while.

The left hand side has always been a problem, with players like Steed trying to fill a problem position it always leads to us being very narrow.

I think one of the first things he will do is get us organised by players staying disciplined in their positions. Which means having one of our CM's holding to protect the back four, telling to Kaboul to stop going walkies and whoever is on the left offering us more width.

Guys why do you think ENIC will sell?? They are making bucket loads of cash and its getting more and more each year. IMO We will have the board we have for the forseeable future. Say what you liek about Levy but as a bussiness man he is the best chairman in the league and he isnt affraid to splash the cash (mayb not on the rite targets. Im sure Ramos has followed the Spurs story very closely and knows the stories of players being bought by the board instead of the manager, there is no way he would sign for us if he thougth that these were true. Jol must have input in these signings.Ramos will bring us a totally different team, as has been said before he will build his training around fitness and everything will flow from that. I think he will already have the respect of the players, somthing i dont think Jol had 100% of. From what i seen yesterday it was an imporved performance from the last 3 games and that was with him just in the stands. I really hope he rotates the strikers, and hopes he can get Keane and Defoe playing togeather. Defoe DISERVES and chance to prove he is as good as i think he is.P.S. Where is Keven-Prince? Im dying to see this lad get a chance!

Good points. You forgot Ghaly in your list of potential Box-to-boxers

Good call. If Ramos can get Ghaly using his undoubted talent for the good of the team, I'd have no problem with him wearing a Spurs shirt again. Strict discipline and a clearly defined role may be the making of him.

The boy wonder Taarabt is another thorny one for Ramos. Juande does not play with a "No 10", playmaker in the hole, midfielder. So, I suspect he'll have to teach Taarabt how to play wide, and having dribbled past his man to look for and deliver that killer ball. That's a big challenge. But Taarabt has so much natural ability, that I hope Juande gives it his best shot.

Incidentally re two wide men, Bale & Ekotto are injured I think, so can't see them playing on Wed,

Hope Bale is back for the Boro game, Ekotto's injury seems more long-term.
