I was at the stadium last night and was blown away by the acoustics. When the south stand fired up, the volume was unbelievable. The problem is we quickly ran out of songs. The acoustics work both ways, which seemed to encourage the Palace fans who out sang us over the 90 minutes. To hear "is this the library" and "your flipping support is not very good" at our own grand opening was embarrassing.

There are 28000 new fans in the stadium and 17500 fans on the wall who need better material than COYS and Yid Army.

Hopefully the supporters trust can engage with the club and see what we can do together to give us the material to do the stadium justice. Personally I like a drummer, but I respect that some don't.

While I'm moaning, Poch says we now need to think like a big club. For me, that means no more "stand up if you hate arsenal". We're now bigger then that.

Why have we changed from the Star Wars entrance to cant smile without you? There’s more than enough pathos in the club already. I hope that was a one off as it was naff.

I’d love to see the Spurs drum back. Understand why it was stopped though.

Glad we weren’t “treated” to hey Jude you’re shit last night though.

The loud moany noise that came from the South Stand (when Harry missed that chance) almost sounded as loud as the celebrations after the goals.

We've plenty of songs. As to why they don't get sung, maybe they've been forgotten by the younger 'chant' starters, I dunno really :D

With that wall, we need an organised faction of supporters like there is in European grounds to get songs going. Sometimes its about getting a song started by enough people and the rest follow suit.

I always feel that our songs don’t last long enough. It’s like the fans get bored after a couple rounds.

Whilst I’m not a huge fan of the Dortmund style perma-drone, I’m always impressed with the stamina of the fans.

Yeah I feel like the stadium just kinda doubled the amount of cynical bastards were about. I don't think we did well as fans but I must say the flow of the game didn't help, we were against a back 10 and we kept playing it from side to side with the odd cross cleared by Tomkins, it wasn't a game which helped fuel an atmosphere.

I'm not a fan of the dortmund style of constantly chanting where it becomes redundant, I like the atmosphere to build organically and the game wasn't ideal for that but we do need to do better.

Agree. More songs and better chants that can lift people. Plus build a culture of 'this is our place, we make the noise'.

I know a lot don't like the European model with drums and megaphones but what it can do is lift a crowd because someone takes the lead and picks a chant that suits the mood, nerves, feeling of the supporters and the run of play. Being at European games live - not just Dortmund - is for me a bigger crowd spectacle with a feeling of more support than what goes on in most PL stadiums bar a few (though when the WHL rocked it was second to none). It won't ever be and probably shouldnt be the culture in the PL and NWHL. But what I take from it is a group of 'leaders' on the South Stand who take initiative to lead on chants, and even push new ones in to the mix. And who don't give up whatever the score og performance.

Cant Smile Without You needs knocking on the head, permanently. Sounds proper wimpy for a football match in my opinion. Lifetime bans for anyone caught singing it, I say :finger:

I think people thought the atmosphere was built into the ground. The ground is an instrument. And instrument generally don’t make noise unless someone plays them. I’d like to hear the drum back. It did actually work back in the day. And an endless drone would be better than endless silence but the middle ground is that we sing. I think it was nerves last night. But we’re Spurs fans, we’re always nervous until we’re at least 4 goals ahead. That needs to stop being an excuse anymore. Every game should be treated like an away game now. Away fans are the best because they’ve built their day around a match, travelling, eating, drinking, supporting, singing. We have a venue which allows each game to be an occasion. I don’t know about you but I want to see what we can achieve in this stadium with regards to atmosphere and I don’t want to wait until we play Arsenal to do it. Last night wasn’t good enough from the fans. First night stage fright? Fine, don’t let it happen again.
