Chatting on Saturday after another inept Jansen cameo. Someone said the one player we never really replaced was Defoe and though a few of us questioned it. The answer is probably yes he always seemed happy here he guaranteed goals and would probably have quite happily have sat on the bench,

i would never have guessed it but how we have missed the little fellow

The problem was that in his last season for us, he was no longer getting us 'guaranteed goals' in the league.

His goals over the last 2-3 seasons dried up. He should have been scoring 25 goals a season because his movement and chances over the game was excellent, but his finishing at times left a lot to be desired, he just hit the shot as hard as he could and it could be sporadic, it could end up smashing off the bar, row Z, top corner, ricocheting off the goalie etc. Kane on the other hand hits the ball with a lot of venom but more precise, kind of like how Shearer could strike a ball.

I never associated Defoe with hard graft, but for movement and creating chances for himself he was excellent.

I don't think we'd replaced anyone, striker wise. Berbatov, Keane, Defoe or Adebayor hadn't exactly been replaced. The only striker that's come through is one that was already at the club.

You forgot Pav!!! :(

But yeh, until Janssen arrived, striker signings hadn't exactly been frequent. Adebayor was alright for 6mths and then disappeared, often literally.

Sissoko is currently doing a pretty good job replacing Adebayor

We all love Defoe, but If I remember correctly he didn't score single goal in Premier League in his last whole calender year before he was sold to Toronto. Not my TOP-5 favorite Spurs players, but probably in my TOP 10.

We've never really given Janssen a chance. It's November in his first season as second choice striker in a team that hasn't really taken off. Defoe was never a 25 goal a season striker, not even close so I'm not sure exactly what we're trying to replace? We lack firepower from our midfield and our main striker needs a run of games to show he can continue to do the business. The main thing we are missing is some bloody patience.

He gets a lot of stick for only scoring against the poorer teams but seeing as we just draw with them all the time, perhaps we need that kind of player.

Your not comparing apples with apples. The way we play has changed and our fwd has to hold up the ball, be strong and good in the air. The way we play means Defoe doesn't need replacing

He doesn't need a chance. He's fat, slow, and has the skills of a donkey. Get rid. Poch out!
