I don't drink much wine. I do drink plenty of beer however from ales, porters, stouts to lagers and "new world" IPAs. You may not not like the American style IPAs as a matter of taste but I'm not sure you can objectively describe the better ones as being 'rank'.

Apparently he was watching United getting stuffed by Liverpool and was swearing at the TV :).

what's the matter with these footballers. You've got one dumb ass millionaire eating gold and the other knob taking sleeping pills!

Just goes to prove that while money certainly helps, it ain't everything! Inner peace and contentment of the heart/soul are found elsewhere!
TBF it's quite a small percentage that are complete dicks, and don't forget how much it gets amplified through the press. I wouldn't say footballers in general are any more stupid than other young affluent people.

You're probably right, but Rooney has proven time and time again that he's an absolute moron.

Fucking hell!!. Multi millionaire 10 times over gets pissed up and drives. Big deal. We all have inner demons.

There's never an excuse for drink driving, especially at the levels he was clocked at, but if anything theres even less of an excuse when you're "a millionaire 10 times over" and could afford to have a private chauffer wait outside the bar all might for you and take you home when you wanted or, god forbid, just get a normal taxi for the 20 quid it wouldv cost him to get from Alderley Edge to Prestbury.

Maybe I'm just a miserable git but I've never been particularly impressed with those kinds of goals. It's 80% a goalkeeping error 19% "balls" and 1% skill. By that I mean the actual skill involved is virtually nothing. All of us can kick the ball into an open goal from the half way line, it's really not difficult. The hard part is having the balls to try it in the middle of a game. However, it's almost entirely dependent on the keeper being stupidly far out and not paying attention.

The obvious comparison is Beckham's one but I think Beckham's was better because it took a lot more balls than Rooney's because at the time he was a kid breaking into the first team at the biggest club in the world, whereas Rooney is a well-established "big name" player playing in a tin-pot league for a bit of extra retirement money.

Rooney's done this 3 or 4 times in his career.

Over analysing there a little.

If that goal was that easy then we'd be seeing that type of goal lot more in matches.

I agree. And he was playing under Ferguson and alongside Roy Keane, not exactly the types you imagine to indulge what might be seen as cocky and audacious efforts from relatively unproven youngsters. However the match was “a stroll in the sun” as Keane put it and the game was in injury time with United 2-0 up before Beckham’s famous strike.

It's rare because it requires a very rare set of circumstances, rather than because it's especially skillful

It’s a skill to both recognize those rare circumstances and then have the technique to take advantage. He’s done it before at the top level, like Becks and Xabi Alonso.

It’s a technique that doesn’t rely heavily on athleticism, which is something he obviously doesn’t have now. He scored every kind of goal imaginable in his athletic prime. Good to see he can still score a spectacular goal, and help his team in the twilight of his career.

Some professional footballers like Sissoko can't hit the target from 10 yards, so I have doubts that I or indeed "all of us" could consistently kick the ball into an open goal from the half way line!
