He didn't say that, he said everyone had to prove themselves. VDV took the hump.

Michael Dawson was told the same, stayed, buckled down and eventually ended up being in the team. VdV fudged off as soon as he could, and has rarely let an opportunity to whine about how unfairly he was treated by AVB. Don't really care for the bloke, it's not AVBs fault that he had so little faith in his own ability.

Wasn't it because his wife wanted to go back to Germany and he tried to save their marriage? I think that was the story then.

Up there as one of my favourite players we signed, it wasn't just what he did on the pitch I think he moved us up (forgive me because I hate this phrase) "another level" in terms of mentality I don't just mean the other players but the fans as well, it was like another step on from when we signed Edgar Davids, there was a belief change around the place.

The day I sit down and do my "All time favourite Spurs XI" vs my "Spurs players I wish we'd have gotten in their prime XI" it'll be one game of football I wish I could watch.

Cheers Rafa come back and say hello!

TBf We did get him towards the end of his prime. He was fantastic for us. Just wish we got a few more years out of him thats all. We probably should of.

He didn't say that, he said everyone had to prove themselves. VDV took the hump.

According to VdV this is not exactly true according to VdV:

'He bought Gylfi Sigurdsson and then told me he would be his new No.10'.

and

"It was private things, but also when what's his name [Andre Villas-Boas] came he said to me 'you're not my number one' and I had played two years, like, unbelievable

He left for his wife as well. She was basically living in Germany at the time and VdV wanted to save his marriage, but if a manager came in that gave VdV support he would of stayed.

AVB was awful at talking to players, or communicating in general, ask Gallas and half the Chelsea squad. I think that, above all else, was his major weakness as a manager.

The marriage was certainly a factor. But as long as VdV himself tend to never mention it, and says stuff like «what's his name» and states that himself not being nr. 1 as if it is an obvious travesty, then I really think it's as easy as I stated earlier.

Dawson is a fighter, VdV preferred coasting.

I love that VdV song, definitely one of my favourites over the years.

Loved how the guy took on everything it meant to be Spurs.

Was absolutely gutted when he left. Didn’t help that it came pretty much out of the blue either.

A true Spurs style player and always seemed pumped for the Arsenal games and always delivered in them, whilst taking great pleasure in winding them up too.

Absolutely loved the bloke. I liked him before we bought him, the day we announced it was a very happy day, such a bargain back then. Sure he had a few injury niggles but my word he was a special player. Remember Villa away when Defoe got sent off early and VDV played as a lone striker and absolutely bossed the game.

Pure class, if only we could find another signing like him.

Bumping this to shamelessly announce that I get to meet Rafa on Saturday when he's in Bergen as studio guest in our PL show. On NLD day.

I'm starstruck like mad and it's still four days away. :X3:
