Yeah, I must admit that I have misgivings about the scouting end of things.

Our scouting has proven to be awful! When was the last time we discovered an absolute gem, a real naturally super talented kid? (Cue the Kane and Alli guff)

Unfortunately it does fuel a worry that fans are simply 'punters' and that the new ground is simply a case of more 'bums on seats' and more potential to create match day revenue rather than being part of a plan to make the club a force on as well as off the pitch.

Yep - and add shareholder value (which means dividends and increase in capital value to Levy and co).

We need new owners is the short truth.

no they have changed it to a nappy changing room for all the bed wetters:whistle:
Normally I am not one to get overly upset about a reverse but I must admit that I do have concerns after today. Equally, I can see why a thread about investment could be seen as kneejerk but the overall picture regarding scouting and player purchase does concern me.

The reality is what is our club ?

What is its identity ?

It ain’t winning domestic cups that’s for sure

For me, it’s about earning money for the owners. Which is why I only go to games now and again. Just no point investing anything more.

I don’t buy for a second Poch didn’t want to buy anyone, i do buy that he didn’t want to buy anymore n’koudous or njies as bargain basements levys way of appeasing the fans.
From Pochs perspective and what he has said clearly many times in different ways is if we want to challenge and win trophies we need to change the way we do things, Levy failed massively in the summer and if poch has a decent offer in the summer he would be mad to hang around. Levy has shown time and again when we have chance at greatness the penny comes before the pound.

I think this tells us everything we need to know about this team and club as a whole at the moment. Pochs quotes after the game underline it.

We've won fuck all at this juncture, who exactly do we think we are?

oh I'm upset at losing, especially when Watford, Liverpool, Man C, Burnley, Chelsea, Arsenal (D), and Southampton (1st goal), have cost us points due to very poor defending.

the trouble is over the last 4 seasons we have gone from a team with a few International players to a team full of them. the WC has cost us dearly, just as much as not buying (because we also failed to sell). we all know we needed a CM, & a CDM, but no guarantee they would of settled or stopped poor defensive mistakes.

Oh no, like I said, it could be seen as kneejerk to blame a lack of investment in relation to the result today but I do think that a lack of transfers has hurt us and I would question the scouting network because even if Levy won't countenance signing the quality that Poch wants, I have to question why the scouts cannot identify some gems from anywhere across the four corners of the earth.

of course they want to earn money, same as you or me (if I was well enough to work), but to do that we really had to upgrade the stadium. to be able to pay the players we have, and hopefully new players in the future the money that will want them to play for us, the old WHL never had the capacity to be able to compete or match any of the other top 6. all we have until the new stadium is paid for is hope or a sugar daddy. the trouble is the signs we have shown the last 3 seasons, our fans have become more expecting, than hoping.

none of us know if our scouts put names forward, and Poch didn't turn round and just say NO, it's either player A or no 1.

Be able to pay the players we have? Is that why Toby signed a new contract? Oh wait, he haven't. :p

Poor example, he was offered a decent contract, top 5 among central defenders in the league at the time (if memory serves), that was all his entourage's doing, nothing to do with Levy - for a change.

Levy too busy with the stadium to get involved in the transfer business last summer. We're not a club that can throw money at the market to be top 4, we must be smarter than everyone else. That's how we've been able to compete.
Pochettino has struggled to co-operate with the people we've had to work the transfermarket, to such an extent that people have left as it basically wasn't a job for them here. He's made a point of that he didn't want to be Head Coach, he wanted to be an old school manager and got "promoted" to such. With that comes also a responsibility to make the moves in the transfer market - both in and out. By his own desire, it's his job to find the gems we need to stay competitive. Whether he stays or goes, we clearly need to restructure some in our organisation.

It's possible but that would also be a slight concern too. It's hard to imagine any manager being that rigid.
