Something dreadful is happening to me, something which after last year I swore would never happen again....... I, Gbspurs, am sad to say that I'm now excited and optimistic about next season. :(

I cant help it, and the feeling is getting stronger. End of the season I was about as "done" with us as I ever have been. Now with every passing day, and the conclusion of the WC on the horizon I just want it to be August 16th.

I see a picture of Lamela and Soldado together and I start to imagine. "What if they just click?" "Liverpool did it, why can't we?"

I see leaks of new kits and can't wait to see us run out for the first game of the season.

I see the fixture list and imagine what could happen if we start well.

I see training shots of Eriksen an I remember how gifted he is, and only 22.

I see Lloris, Verts and Paulinho playing at the highest level and remember that they play for us.

I don't even really care about transfers which is odd I just want to see more training photos of Poch. MOAR!!!!!!

I'm going to take this opportunity to apologise to myself in advance. I know we said we were going to keep our expectations low and I know how much AVB and Bale hurt us but fuck it, LAMELA FOR POTY, CL HERE WE COME!!!!!

I too have this same feeling. If the Spurs Community faithful will allow me to get away with using the word 'antithesis', the feeling I have is the antithesis to the one I had when AVB was appointed.

Positivity, yay!

I feel the same. Although I do hope we get a solid left back in ASAP. Lots of our rivals getting their business done early which is worrying, but I do feel we should be able to have a go with last seasons squad and a new left back. The majority of last summers signings should improve and Lamela will be like a new £30m signing!

I like the fact that so many are saying "I'd be happy if we finish 6th and play good footie". I' don't mean happy as in, "Yey, let's go for mediocre". No, I firmly believe in more ambition than 6th. The reason why I like it is because it reminds me of the summer before the season in which we last qualified for CL.

It's sooooo uncool to feel positive about Spurs. What sort of a weird person are you?

Man, you should be hating the players, hating the owners, hating the kit, and hating the new stadium that's never going to be built anyway because, well, because it's Spurs..

I don't think you know what the word "supporter" even means.

I keep telling myself that it'll take time to sort stuff out, that this will have to be another transitional season, that we won't have money for purchases whilst those around us will be spending like crazy etc etc etc.

But, I too can't help but feel that we've got a quality squad and with some decent coaching (no not you Sherwood) and a little bit of flexibility in game plans (no not you AVB) we could really be on to something.

Of course I also have a vague concern that it'll all go tits up and we'll be bottom by Xmas begging for Harry to come back...but I try and keep that particular TSH out of my head as much as possible.

Let's get behind Mo-Po and see what he can do. Certainly the players in the early training sessions look happy enough.

I hate to say it, but I feel the polar opposite

Me too I'm usually a bit negative about our hopes before the start of the season and this season with a change of manager I'm expecting a bit of a transitional season

I too have thoughts of positivity and excitement when thinking about Spurs and the forthcoming season.

If I have these thoughts, the best way to rid them is by punching a small child. Whilst I may not be the most popular parent at the school gates, its a small price to pay for my sanity

Never left to be honest, always look forward to the start of a fresh season. Im not an overly optimistic person in general day to day life but when it comes to Spurs I always have hope, 20 years of hope and I can honestly say it has never wavered, no idea why.

Afterall we were so shit last year, so absolutely terible and was a real clusterfuck of a season, doom, gloom, poor play, signings not inspiring us but we did finish 6, 10 points off 4th. Close your eyes and imgien back to a time when we had the likes of Andy Sinton and Gary Dotherty trying to entertain us. :D

Why?

I have no expectations of us getting Top 4, but that doesn't mean I'm in a negative mood either. I just want to see good football and passion/commitment from the players. I know that there are 5 teams better than us so if we do get Top 4, we are punching above our weight hugely but it's not something I think we can achieve...yet.

I feel a bit of a comparison to the summer of 09. After a disappointing season, most fans seem to be content with just watching some good football, and a place in the top 6 in the season to come.

Our buys that summer underwhelmed me a bit (Crouch, Bassong and the 2 Kyles), but it was really the players that we had bought or bought back in the season before, that started to sparkle, e.g. Modric. After we beat Pool 2-1 in the opening match of the season and then went on to win the following 3, you could sense the belief coming back.

I will also never forget that beautiful April-May run-in, where we beat the Scum (effectively ending any chance of them winning the league) and Chelscum over the course of 4 days, and then went on to beat City and secure 4th. Simply beautiful.

If we could repeat something similar to this, I would be ecstatic.

The omens are there, we have some quality buys from last year hopefully ready to make their breakthrough, a winable opening 4-5 games, and apparently another piss-stained Home-shirt too (y)

(Must add that I love that shirt even though it's ugly, as it reminds me of exactly that season!)

ill remain positive until our first smashing at home. Then I will review my positivity.

I have to say I wrote off last season pretty early as i fully expected our team to take time to gel. And then with AVB going it just killed any chance of us doing anything. So yes we should be posiive. these star players we were creaming about last season Should. Should!! be ready for the rigours of the premier league this year. could be an exciting season. we just need a good start and some belief. COYS!

I've gone the other way thanks to the World Cup.
I know there's a shit-load of money involved in the World Cup but, for the most part, the players are out their to represent their countries on the biggest stage (the exception being England). I'm sure a few are using it as a shop window for their services at club level, but on the whole it's a completely different experience.

Now we're heading towards the return of the PL.
The return of players earning stupid money to kick the ball around, trying to win things for their overtly rich owners (and the bonuses they get) and not really giving a toss about us fans.

I'm actually dreading it starting again.
