I don’t get it. There must be more to this. He goes from England’s first choice right back. No summer break. Is injured. Has a poor by his standards season due to the foregoing and we get less than £22m for a player aged 28 and in his prime. I am not saying he is the best right back in the world but he is one of the best in the premier league. And he is home grown. I can only think he has an injury that we are not aware of. But in footy world today this is not good business

Couldn't agree more. Doesn't sound right at all. We sold a 27yr old Walker in a £50m deal two years ago and the market has grossly inflated since then. Atletico themselves just paid €130m for a 19 year old! Perhaps a lower fee has been put out into the press as this would help us in negotiations for his replacement.

Does anyone know offhand how long Trippier has left on his contract? That may explain the modest transfer fee.

I got the distinct impression that Trippier pissed Poch off (along with me & most Spurs fans) with his antics at the World Cup when he clearly jeopardised his club career by declaring himself fit for a 3rd and 4th place play off and then returning to Spurs completely fucked for a whole of the season. Had it been a WC final then i'm sure it would have been viewed differently, but there was absolutely no need for him to play that play off game and he should have bowed out, given that the club pay his wages. It was stupid and maybe, ultimately, he's paid the price (although very hard to suggest he hasn't landed on his feet going to AM !).

Still not a reason to sell well below market rate imo

We could fanny about until deadline day getting a better deal but it looks like we’ve taken a bit of a hit on this to get it sorted quickly and get on with the rest of our business. If Poch doesn’t want him then the priority for the good of the club, which includes the financial side, is to bring in who Poch does want ASAP.

Yep, can only be happy in what appears to be a change in M.O for Levy, main target purchased BEFORE club tour and some of the unwanted players going for less than market value, rather than haggling for that extra million or two. Can only be a positive.

He will be twenty nine a couple of weeks into the new season, so i think that the fee is about right. It will be interesting to see who Poch will already have lined up to come in.

At first I thought it was a joke of a fee, but it makes sense. If he is unwated, then get rid quickly and 21 million will probably still see us make a profit on him. At worst break even (transfer plus wages)

Well, considering we got him for £3.5M, 21M doesn't sound too bad, though I agree we should perhaps get more. But all in all, I see clubs pulling back on big transfers. Apart from RM, and MU, there are not many expensive signings, as the bids and asks get more stretched.

We bought him for £3.5M I'd say we made a profit, even with wages taken into account.

Levy is always being criticised for over pricing players we want to shift. The first time he gets a quick deal resolved for an average price, the knives are out. If Poch wants this and Levy has delivered, who really gives a toss? Wait til the window shuts before throwing the toys.

Probably pissed off southgate too, who would have wondered why the player insisted on coming off in the semifinal leaving us with ten men, when just a few days later he is good to go again.

His performance last season and being ejected from the England squad probably halved his value

Judging by some of the things said about him over the last year I’m surprised we got the £3.5m back.
