Kieran Trippier has admitted he has struggled to live up to his World Cup reputation for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Right-back Trippier was one of England’s star performers in Russia, but the 28-year-old has struggled at times for Spurs.

I feel like the fact that we had 9 players advance all the way to the WC Semifinals has had a huge impact on the club this season, probably one of the main reasons Trippier, Dele, etc have struggled with varoius injuries all season, thus making it difficult to replicate their form and partly responsible for our current position in the table (though admittedly finishing 3rd is looking pretty good after our recent struggles at Burnley, Chelsea, and Southampton)

Of course we were the most badly hamstrung side by the WC and it's not even close.

When 80% of your first XI have literally no pre-season you cannot expect any level of performance or fitness.

Our pre-season was basically a joke, and only served to get Son some fitness to play for Korea.

As a result we started slow and were always going to fall away, also the massive amount of injuries (I'm pretty sure Moose's sale is a result of coming back from WC injured too) has left us playing a totally different low intensity game in the majority of our fixtures.

It's testament to Poch and the team that we've barely (if at all) used it as an excuse, and have somehow managed to be in such a good position still despite all of the above leading to us playing poorly in a lot of games.

Next season will be a different kettle of onions though, i just hope we can get a new stadium bounce that is enough to lift the players to hang on to the Champion's league spot.

He must be embarrassed, but he’s not the only player that has lost his form this season. It’s been a cluster-feck of unfit, out of form and injured players all season long. Not to mention the fact that we didn’t sign anyone in the Summer etc. And recently we’ve felt it’s combined force manifesting itself in results.
