We should be paying 4231 and raping 'CB grandad' at every oppo.

Instead poch's set us up to meander around all day with the shape that makes us constipated.

Again Tranmere.

This is why it's better he stays here and doesn't go to Madrid or Manure. Why?

Because he just not ready.

He's not a mature enough manager yet to manage such clubs.

Still needs to sharpen his tools.

He gets away with a lot of stuff with us he simple would not at other top tier clubs who are far more demanded than we are.

I’m sure others have commented on this, so I’m probably beating a dead horse, but...

This is absolute f’ing tripe.

And, by the way, it’s better he stays here because he’s fantastic and has molded this club into what it is right now.

Why would i disagree with that?

Three things about yesterday's game that really resonated with me.

Dele's maturity. He didn't just captain the side yesterday, he captained the side, playing deeper than usual and supporting the young players alongside and behind him in a completely unselfish display (at least until Marsh allowed him to go further forward and have some fun). He then gave the consummate post-match interview about the importance of being part of a team. He's suddenly very grown up. And he's still only 22.

Kane's understanding of what football means to the fans. We've argued back and forth on here as to whether Kane should have come on but what really struck me was, how after scoring, he 'shakes' hands with a number of fans behind the goal, goes to pull away and thinks 'no, there's a few more here who would like this too' and just walks along for a few extra seconds, keeping his hand there. It's a small thing, but there are a few fans this morning who will have been absolutely made up by this.

Jesus. Until now, I always assumed that while Poch was giving his post-match interviews, Jesus was in the dressing room, getting warm, congratulating the lads on their performances and entertaining the young'uns with his scary eyes routine. But no, while Mauricio is doing his best to answer Jake's non-questions, understand McManaman's accent and recover from the shock of Harry's newly acquired belief in not spending money for the sake of it, Jesus is freezing his bollocks off twenty yards away, awaiting Poch so that they can return to the dressing room together. They really are a team.

And there really is a lot to love about Tottenham at the moment.

And I've not even mentioned Skipp's assist, the two debuts, the team's obvious love for Llorente, Aurier's hat-trick shot into row Z and Foyth's header while laying on the floor (always guaranteed a big cheer in my household, that particular manoeuvre). All in all, I really enjoyed that game.

Top post. I agree Dele’s maturity is striking. Extraordinary for a 22 year old.

good win, strong performance. personally, I thot it was nice giving Kane that last 10mins. He was definitely the person everyone came to see, he took his chance and goal well.

Kinda disappointed with the TR goalkeeper thou. he was... kinda rubbish. in big matches, u need your goalkeeper to be on form and keeping u in the game.

onward to the next round. COYS!

I was one of those who touched hands with Harry after he scored. It made my day as it was my birthday yesterday as well. What was even nicer was the way Harry and Sissoko were signing autographs and doing selfies with the Tranmere fans as they were warming up during the game. This went on for ages without complaint and only stopped when a steward put a stop to it. I should also mention that when Son was subbed off, the whole of the main stand were applauding him.

Where to start. First of all, I am American and played American football, baseball and basketball until my twenties during which time I fell in love with proper football and continued playing for 25 years. I refereed at the youth, collegiate and high end adult amateur levels and had sons that continued playing up through college. I average watching at least 4 matches a week mostly the PL and the Bundesliga and attend multiple college matches and a couple of professional matches a year.

A few things to note:
  • Even though American football games have 60 minutes of clock time, there can be as few as 100 and as many as 190 to 200 plays in game, meaning that there is almost twice as much actual play in some games as there are in others.
  • College basketball stops every time an official blows the whistle which happens on violations, fouls and ball going out of bounds along with some other reasons, but it is clear, if the clock is running and the whistle blows you stop the clock.
  • College soccer (as well as that played in high schools) uses clock on a scoreboard and time is stopped after goals, for presenting cards, for injuries that require treatment or an extended delay. The time is still 45 minutes a half and the clock does not stop for the ball going out of bounds, fouls with no cards involved, etc. When the clock runs out, the half or game is over, no questions asked.
  • Baseball uses no clock and is not relevant to the conversation.
Rez, this is not just directed at your response but the topic of changing the clock system.

Sports that use clocks will always have teams that try to "shorten" the contest regardless of a running clock, countdown running clock, countdown stopping clock or whatever. It is part of game management and provides a team that has less depth, not as skilled or is not as conditioned a strategy to better compete.

Examples
  • Some football teams try to run a play within 12 seconds of the last play being run while others take almost the maximum 30 or 35 seconds depending on level of game to run the next play. This either speeds up the game or greatly slows it down depending on the strategy and all the different reasons time is stopped leads to games lasting anywhere 2 hr 45 minutes to almost 4 hrs in extreme cases for the same "60" minute game.
  • College basketball can be used as an example in that every time the ball goes out of play, the clock stops. But, are we going to add another official or two to manage the time clock as they do in basketball. One of the beauties of football is that at almost every level world wide the rules are basically the same. Time keeping is managed on the field. And when is the clocked stopped, for ever foul?, throw in, goal kick, etc. Does the official blow his whistle to indicate the clock is should be stopped. As a player or ref, it would drive me crazy to hear a whistle that often.
  • College soccer has a countdown clock and may come closest to what you want in that the sporting public would know when the game is ending. It does not; however, keep one team from averaging 20 seconds a throw in while the others take less than ten.
I support teams, in general, that play the game quickly and get on with it. If you are the team trying to speed up the game to take advantage of your abilities, play quickly after the ball has gone out of play and learn to keep the ball in play when you have it. There is a reason that many teams, when trying to slow the game down, invite long shots because every time it goes out for the goal kick it takes time off the clock. Don't get mad at the clock system for this, start playing smarter and learn how to stretch the opponent out while maintaining possession of the ball. It keeps them from delaying and wears them out at the same time.

While I understand the points that people are making about time wasting, wanting the same amount of football per match, etc, my only suggestion is; "Be careful what you ask for, because you may get it."
Are you Brad Bobbly?

I couldn't watch the game last night because I was out with work for someone's leaving do. We won 7-0. I have been to two live games this season: Barcelona (H) which finished 2-4 and Wolves (H) which finished 1-3.

Just call me Lucky McFlukeface.

Next time you watch Spurs:

I'd like to take issue with a couple of points in your post but there really isn't a single thing I can take issue with.:)
Dele looked silky smooth last night, I know he had extra time and space but was absolute class in all aspects of his game and position as captain.
Seems pretty clear that Harry Kane coming on to respect the Tranmere fans is true and it is undoubtedly something he would do, I'm very proud of my team at the moment.
kane wanted a goal. He is a brilliant greedy bastard.

How un-Levy like. But it was said we did the same for Rochdale in the past. If true, Levy does have a heart. But don't start negotiating with him.:)
