Very pleased with the result last night I thought the game may have been harder before hand as i thought Tranmere would sniff a potential headline grabbing moment, but a professional performance saw to that and seven goals was just a reminder of how good this team is despite whoever plays.

I'm hearing "33 goals in 33 days"

Three things about yesterday's game that really resonated with me.

Dele's maturity. He didn't just captain the side yesterday, he captained the side, playing deeper than usual and supporting the young players alongside and behind him in a completely unselfish display (at least until Marsh allowed him to go further forward and have some fun). He then gave the consummate post-match interview about the importance of being part of a team. He's suddenly very grown up. And he's still only 22.

Kane's understanding of what football means to the fans. We've argued back and forth on here as to whether Kane should have come on but what really struck me was, how after scoring, he 'shakes' hands with a number of fans behind the goal, goes to pull away and thinks 'no, there's a few more here who would like this too' and just walks along for a few extra seconds, keeping his hand there. It's a small thing, but there are a few fans this morning who will have been absolutely made up by this.

Jesus. Until now, I always assumed that while Poch was giving his post-match interviews, Jesus was in the dressing room, getting warm, congratulating the lads on their performances and entertaining the young'uns with his scary eyes routine. But no, while Mauricio is doing his best to answer Jake's non-questions, understand McManaman's accent and recover from the shock of Harry's newly acquired belief in not spending money for the sake of it, Jesus is freezing his bollocks off twenty yards away, awaiting Poch so that they can return to the dressing room together. They really are a team.

And there really is a lot to love about Tottenham at the moment.

And I've not even mentioned Skipp's assist, the two debuts, the team's obvious love for Llorente, Aurier's hat-trick shot into row Z and Foyth's header while laying on the floor (always guaranteed a big cheer in my household, that particular manoeuvre). All in all, I really enjoyed that game.
I'd like to take issue with a couple of points in your post but there really isn't a single thing I can take issue with.:)
Dele looked silky smooth last night, I know he had extra time and space but was absolute class in all aspects of his game and position as captain.
Seems pretty clear that Harry Kane coming on to respect the Tranmere fans is true and it is undoubtedly something he would do, I'm very proud of my team at the moment.

Never in doubt
despite attempts to
big Tranmere up beforehand.
First half we made a game of it
for them by early misses.
Second half we got the heavy roller out
and crushed them.

Sort of score in this type of game
you expect but rarely achieve.

Captain Dele, Eriksen like
in full control mode
was very wary of the pitch
Rightly so.

Skipp, Marsh, KWP, Eyoma.(Kane)
Only Winks missing
from our own
and he's a senior now.
Two under 22's in central defence
Do I not like that.
I do.

Davison Sanchez was so comfortable last night the guy is class. My MotM because he snuffled up anything that came near him so quickly.

He didn’t hesitate to push their strikers out of the way if they even looked like charging forward.

Gazza - 7 - Can really see him becoming our number 1 in a year or two - much better than Lloris with feet. If he can dominate his box aerially (given his size!) he will be an awesome keeper.
KWP - 7 - Not a LWB. Offered nothing offensively as he had to keep cutting back onto his right and then passed back to the CBs. Defensively good though. I wish he'd get a proper run at RWB (when we play 3 CBs) and told to attack, attack, attack as he has so much to offer in the last third.
Foyth - 7 - Good distribution.
Sanchez - 7 - Too easy for him.
Davies - 7.5 - Has looked better at CB than LB recently. Positionally excellent.
Aurier - 8 - Two goals and looked hungry and direct when he attacked.
Skipp - 8.5 MOM - Thought he controlled possession for us and his assist for Llorente's 2nd was exquisite. Showed great maturity.
Dele - 7.5 - I actually thought Dele was pretty poor 1st half - consistently gave the ball away and looked off the pace - but massively improved 2nd half.
Moura - 5 - He has a great first touch and a very heavy second touch which gets him into too many 50-50 tackles. Cannot be faulted for effort, but offered little threat and fluffed two great chances. Worried about his form and it looks like Son will be sorely missed for 4 weeks.
Son - 8.5 - Biggest threat. Looked physically stronger and quicker than anyone on the pitch. Scored and assisted. But did miss an easy one on one 1st half at 0-0. We will really miss him whilst away.
Llorente - 8.5 - I'd like to see him partnered with Kane playing deeper as a 10 as he has really quality finishing and hold up play.

I couldn't watch the game last night because I was out with work for someone's leaving do. We won 7-0. I have been to two live games this season: Barcelona (H) which finished 2-4 and Wolves (H) which finished 1-3.

Now we're in the hat for the 4th round, I really want West Ham to beat Birmingham at home today and for us to then draw them at home in the next round. I want the chance to beat them 4 times in the same season to purge the memory of 2013/14 when they did the treble over us.

A good trouncing at home in the League and in the FA Cup would pair beautifully with our away wins to them in the League and the League Cup.

Where to start. First of all, I am American and played American football, baseball and basketball until my twenties during which time I fell in love with proper football and continued playing for 25 years. I refereed at the youth, collegiate and high end adult amateur levels and had sons that continued playing up through college. I average watching at least 4 matches a week mostly the PL and the Bundesliga and attend multiple college matches and a couple of professional matches a year.

A few things to note:
  • Even though American football games have 60 minutes of clock time, there can be as few as 100 and as many as 190 to 200 plays in game, meaning that there is almost twice as much actual play in some games as there are in others.
  • College basketball stops every time an official blows the whistle which happens on violations, fouls and ball going out of bounds along with some other reasons, but it is clear, if the clock is running and the whistle blows you stop the clock.
  • College soccer (as well as that played in high schools) uses clock on a scoreboard and time is stopped after goals, for presenting cards, for injuries that require treatment or an extended delay. The time is still 45 minutes a half and the clock does not stop for the ball going out of bounds, fouls with no cards involved, etc. When the clock runs out, the half or game is over, no questions asked.
  • Baseball uses no clock and is not relevant to the conversation.
Rez, this is not just directed at your response but the topic of changing the clock system.

Sports that use clocks will always have teams that try to "shorten" the contest regardless of a running clock, countdown running clock, countdown stopping clock or whatever. It is part of game management and provides a team that has less depth, not as skilled or is not as conditioned a strategy to better compete.

Examples
  • Some football teams try to run a play within 12 seconds of the last play being run while others take almost the maximum 30 or 35 seconds depending on level of game to run the next play. This either speeds up the game or greatly slows it down depending on the strategy and all the different reasons time is stopped leads to games lasting anywhere 2 hr 45 minutes to almost 4 hrs in extreme cases for the same "60" minute game.
  • College basketball can be used as an example in that every time the ball goes out of play, the clock stops. But, are we going to add another official or two to manage the time clock as they do in basketball. One of the beauties of football is that at almost every level world wide the rules are basically the same. Time keeping is managed on the field. And when is the clocked stopped, for ever foul?, throw in, goal kick, etc. Does the official blow his whistle to indicate the clock is should be stopped. As a player or ref, it would drive me crazy to hear a whistle that often.
  • College soccer has a countdown clock and may come closest to what you want in that the sporting public would know when the game is ending. It does not; however, keep one team from averaging 20 seconds a throw in while the others take less than ten.
I support teams, in general, that play the game quickly and get on with it. If you are the team trying to speed up the game to take advantage of your abilities, play quickly after the ball has gone out of play and learn to keep the ball in play when you have it. There is a reason that many teams, when trying to slow the game down, invite long shots because every time it goes out for the goal kick it takes time off the clock. Don't get mad at the clock system for this, start playing smarter and learn how to stretch the opponent out while maintaining possession of the ball. It keeps them from delaying and wears them out at the same time.

While I understand the points that people are making about time wasting, wanting the same amount of football per match, etc, my only suggestion is; "Be careful what you ask for, because you may get it."

Fuck West Ham.

They're nothing to us, we 'purge' that memory every season by finishing above them by a monumental amount of points each season and not only by playing European football but by playing in the Champions League, something they can only ever dream of as it's not something they will be achieving anytime soon.

But more importantly @riggi could end up having a heart attack having to play them four times in a season.

Jesus may have only been outside 20 yards away as the players were having their post match warm down.

Just love Poch being so considerate to the fans of the small clubs. All I thought him sending Kane on was to collect his appearance, goal and win bonuses. I feel ashamed.
