Actually, I think Poch has got this one right. He has shown Winks that he completely trusts him, by bringing him on in our most difficult games. However, the Prem can be a horrible place for the first ten minutes of a game, and having an experienced bruiser like Dembele there does help.

I know Dembele does more than just helping. Lets be honest - Dembele is still a long way off his imperial best from last season. I just feel, Winks will suit 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 better than Dembele. Often, I feel with Dembele in middle attack just breaks down or takes a pause. Atleast against bottom half sides, I can see Winks being more effective than Dembele.

Full credit to Southampton for giving us a very good game. They have nothing to play for, yet came back in 2nd half and outplayed us.

Once again, Winks proving he should now be considered a serious starter ahead of Dembele. I hope Poch gives him the chances sooner than later.
Outplayed us? Not sure I would go that far, they didn't really threaten our goal at all

They did outplay us in 2nd half - they stopped us from playing. If not for the incredible number of offsides from Long, they could have got some clear cut chances. Lucky us, Gabiadini got injured earlier.

The reason there was so many offsides is because they couldn't break our line and release Long.

people will disagree but I loved the way Vincent came on and broke away and smashed that shot on target and forced forster in to a save. Yes he should have passed but i remember when soldado had no confidence he became to scared to even shoot. At least he hit the target, he looked fresh and more mobile to.

So many long passes ended up out of play...was it the windy condition due to the HOLE or was it the players having an off day?

I was screaming at the TV whenever that happened.

Actually, I think a few of our players just generally put too much air on their passes. That's one thing I like about Winks - he generally passes along the ground, even over 40 yards, or at least keeps it low and hard.

The wind was behaving strangely. What was really obvious, from inside the stadium, is that all of the balls that sailed out of play, from Lloris and Forster and also from crossfield passes, went out on the west touchline. The flags above the roof line showed that the wind was blowing (quite hard) from due south, but I don't think that was what was happening further down. An eddy of some kind was pulling the ball toward the west.

Whether the gap in the stadium contributed to this I don't know - seems likely - but there must have been 10 aerial balls, from both teams, that went straight out of play and I don't recall a single one on the east side of the stadium. All of them were hit from south to north, i.e., downwind, and drifted out to the west. That was Forster in the first half and Lloris in the second half.

The commentators did talk about the wind from that side of the stadium being brought down having some effects quite early in the game..
