The World Cup has put a number of Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer targets in the spotlight. A report from journalist Paul Brown, via Give Me Sport, suggest Spurs will now face plenty of competition for Crotian defender Josko Gvardiol.

Gvardiol is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in the world right now. Since making his professional debut as a 17-year-old at Dinamo Zagreb, his career has gone from strength to strength. The 20-year-old is already appearing at his second major international tournament after bursting onto the scene at last year’s European Championships.

Would be an excellent acquisition. Unfortunately, I think there'll be a few ahead of us in the race.

Have only really seen him in this tournament and it has quickly become clear that he is very very good already, which is amazing given his age.

I doubt it'd be the price tag that stops us buying him tbh (as even at quoted price you could easily argue he'd be worth even more in a few years so a fairly appealing investment signing).

Unfortunately they'll be a queue for his services, but i suppose there could be a glimmer of hope that if we were really serious we could jump the gun somewhat with a cash heavy (from the unused part of that share conversion) bid early in Jan ???

But yeah, it'd be some coup if we somehow landed him.

Immediate upgrade on all of our current central defenders (Romero aside).

A CB for the now and for the future. Unfortunately we'll be someway towards the back of the que in terms of appeal.

Promising signs to think we're looking at signings that can improve the starting 11 and not just 'squad fillers' or options.

To land him we'll have to stump up an eye-watering amount of cash. We all witnessed Chelsea dumping 63m on Cucurella a couple of months ago and they'll try for Gvardiol too. I think Conte is still having wet dreams over Bastoni anyway so not at all convinced we're at the races on this one, and we should nab Lenglet on a permanent deal too imo. Not really watching the World Cup but there sounds like Hincapie is doing well too.

He's a bit like Bellingham where even if we have a bid accepted we won't sign him because there'll be bigger fish in for him.

he is young and if he is clever he will know spurs are a goot time to join, great coach for his development and a poor defence lol

Although saying that Ben davies has had a good season!
