Yeah, but even if he doesn't play that much those clubs will still be coming for him.

We most definitely will lose him next season, so we might as well let him to give us one last good season before we part ways.

If he doesn't play that much he loses form and slips off the radar, last two season's he's been out with mid to long term injuries as well.

We most definitely won't lose him next season if he signs a new contract, that's the entire point about commitment, if you're committed to the club then sign if not then you won't play, simple as that.

Also Sanchez making a mistake against Juve is one thing, Toby was poor in a few of the matches he played in last season, what are we meant to take from that?

One of the things with a contract situation like TA's is he has negotiated a sell on fee which allows him to pick up a huge signing on bonus with his next club. He signs his last contract at decent wages, but lower than he could have got elsewhere in return for the freedom to leave at a realistic price for a then 30-31 year old and a chance to get one last pay day.

The interesting thing for me is that some of the players who have signed for the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea this summer have done so in the range of 70-80K per week. Funny how the media has not mentioned this when discussing those clubs pay scale compared to Spurs.

He can sit for 1 year at which time he’s turned 30, take a 4 year deal at £200k a week and earn £40m or take a 3 year deal and a massive signing on fee.

This geezer is never going to sign for less than £200k per week on a 5 year deal.

But if he breaks a leg he’s fu****d!

If he won't sign a new contract or Poch really wants him out I could see Levy wanting to take 40-45m for him in the European window. It would keep him away from Man Utd but after the zero spend I think the pitch-forks would be out for Levy. I really hope he patches things up and signs a new deal with us though.

I understand what you're saying, but that would be a situation in which both Spurs and Toby end up losing, while the club who ends up signing him ends up winning the most as they will be able to pay him less than they should given that he has slipped under the radar.

On the other hand, if he can give us one last great season and rediscover his partnership with Jan, we may end up having one of our best seasons ever. Players like Eriksen, Dier, Son and Kane seem to be ready to fully blossom (well, Kane has been blossoming for quite a while tbh), let's combine that with that defense we had 2, 3 seasons ago and we could be one of the best teams in Europe.

There has been a real narrative in recent seasons of player experience being dismissed because they're close to 30. The guy is 29. He is at his peak! What a defender to keep. Let's re-integrate this guy and have a great season.

I don't he'll be fully involved unless he signs a new contract, otherwise I think he'll be a support players used when Sanchez is injured or if we play a 3.

I think people are making judgments based on history. How they played in 2016 or even last year, has no bearing on where they are this season.

I am happy to let Poch judge them all in training, and select the 2 (or 3) he feels give Spurs the best chance to win any given match.

I do expect Vertonghen to rest more frequently this year, so that he stays fit and fresh for the "important" matches.

My guess is Sanchez will get the most minutes this season - because his attributes are a good complement to both Jan and Toby.

No not really particularly in the case of last season, Sanchez stepped up and proved that we was an able replacement.

Toby is currently a lot better, don’t get me wrong Sanchez has a good season And World Cup. But he still has mistakes in him and lots learn. TA had two season where I struggle to remember a mistake.

Agreed
Let’s not forget how many goals he sets up for Deli and his passing from the bag is missed. Sanchez great athlete and great 1 vs 1 but has not got Toby’s, ability on the ball or reading / leadership.

I'm too scared to contemplate the thought of TA playing for us again in a normal scenario.

Good stuff just doesn't happen for me.

I can't understand why people are exaggerating faults in Sanchez game to justify the importance of Alderweireld. Vertonghen had made untold mistakes pior to going up another level. I thought Sanchez was absolutely brilliant and grew more Commanding as the season went on, in his first season as well. Alderweireld is a great defender but he has failed to sign a new contract, I don't feel it's right making Sanchez a fool guy.

Love Verts and Sanchez.
Would love for Toby to be 100% with Poch and stay.
Best threesome since the Jimmy Hendrix Experience

Then we will look soft like them lot down the road. Sign and commit to the club and the team, and you'll play, simples.

Or we could have given him the contract he wanted and we would not be in this situation. Levy has shown time and time again he does not care about Tottenham. I hope ENIC sell because they are a roadblock who got lucky we needed serious investment this summer. Signing a couple of quality central midfielders would have changed us into a title challenging side not a side of also rans. Trying to flog Dembele and Alderweireld two of our best players is beyond stupid. You keep and play your top players if you want to win title and trophies. Alderweireld is undoubtably one of them, so let’s play him, get him on board and try do something unti players like Kane and Eriksen realise the club owners have no ambition beyond the value of the club and leave.

Utter, utter nonsense.

We did give him the contract he wanted, it was agreed and he went back on it.

As for the rest of your post just lol
