This has Levy written all over it - relatively low outlay with a large potential reward. Anyone have figures on how much investment it would take to compete at the highest level - Lyon, Man City etc?
If anyone does have these figures, post them up.

Then take a long hard look at what you’re doing with your life.

Thanks @Wine Gum. Looks very much like THFC have taken over control.

I've been very impressed with women's football in the WC. Its been outstanding 90% of the time. I can women's football really taking off in the next 2-3 years.

Wonder if we could actually be at the forefront of that with double-header matches. We have two pitches, so could possibly e.g. play a women's match at 2.30 before a PL game at 5.30 with the ticket covering both games. Reckon we'd get quite a few happy to turn up early for that - one in fifteen would be enough to set an attendance record for the league.

The problem we'd have is that on any given day there would be 3 sets of fans at our stadium which would be a nightmare for police and stewards.

As much as I'd love women's football to really increase in popularity, especially with some friends and family playing in the women's game at the moment. I have to admit I think this will be as good as the women's game will get. That's not necessarily a bad thing because there's been a huge improvement in quality and coverage since the introduction of the WSL but I don't see the money in the game or where it comes from and that will intrinsically be the barrier holding the game back.

Obviously I don't have a crystal ball but at some point someone might realise that some women like sport and some women also spend money so I can't see why sponsors wouldn't want to tap into that. I'm not expecting it to hit PL levels in the next 5 minutes but I can't see a logical reason why womens sport cannot be as popular as mens sport?

I've enjoyed most of the WWC and you may be right that everything dies right back down again after, but then again England might win the thing and with the women's Euros being hosted here (http://www.thefa.com/competitions/uefa-womens-euro-2021-ticket-information) who knows?

There wouldn't be many away fans at the women's game surely? Certainly not those likely to cause any kind of issue - would imagine we could get dispensation just not to have any regardless. Then it would just be the same fans as for the PL game, invited to turn up early to watch the Women's game if they wished, and of course free entry to both for the small number of Women's ST Holders we have. It wouldn't work every week, but as a once-a-season thing where the calenders aligned to make it convienient I think it could be a really nice way to drive further interest. It'll likely never be as big as the men's game, but I reckon it's got a lot of growth yet.

Like I say, I'd love to be wrong but strictly speaking the market is already at saturation point for football. Broadcasters are willing to spend billions to get the TV rights to Premier league alone, so much so that other leagues (Scottish, Italian as an example) have seen their TV revenue diminish in real terms. There is so much football on TV these days adding another layer of football is not going to generate more money for sponsors.

Additionally, if you look at women's sport in other comparable sports Basketball, rugby, cricket, they've all hit ceilings in popularity and potential money making ability. Whilst I can't think of a single team sport that is ahead of women's football and all the other indicators is that there's not much more growth to be made

I like the idea. But I'm sure someone in the public sector will have an issue

Tough game for the women coming up against the USA in the semi final of the WWC. Would love to see England in the final.

In 2019, we finished second in the FA Women's Championship, resulting in promotion to the top-tier of Women's football in the UK, the FA Women's Super League.

A lot of our girls were part timers last season and I dont know how they are going to cope in the Super League. Some of the better sides in the League have professional players on show at the World Cup at the moment and I have to say the quality of the women's game is very impressive. Playing against full time professionals is a whole other ball game, excuse the pun!

Does any one know if we are recruiting players from the World Cup? We will have to upskill the Women's side. Daniel you know this is a key season for the ladies as well, right? Get out your cheque book son!

I've been very impressed by the following - Renard the tall French defender with her aerial ability, Tamires the Brazilian left back, pacy with skills, great attack on the flanks and solid in defence. Debhina another Brazilian with super quick attacking play in midfield and Cristiane their striker, superb with her positioning and ball control. Also very impressed by Cuthbert the little Scottish forward, Prince the Canadian wing forward with her great positioning around the box and the Italian midfielders and forwards Cristiana Girelli, Barbara Bonansea and Aurora Galli as well as Schneider the Jamacian goalkeeper and Cameroon's winger Gabrielle Onguene.

A lot of these players are already playing for European and English sides but a couple of key signings could improve us. Arsenal for example have a large number of senior internationals in their side including Netherlands’ amazing striker Vivianne Miedema.

If you havent been watching the Womens WC I highly recommend it. Some cracking matches and more to come!!

Like the post, but had to give it an optimistic rating for the players you listed. Renard stars for Lyon, who have won the Champions League four times on the bounce! The three Italian players play for Juve, who won the league this year. Cuthbert is with Chelsea who won the league last year. Prince and few others play in the NWSL in the USA.

There are some cracking players at the World Cup for sure, but perhaps we need to look to recruit players who are a small bit of a lower profile in our first season in the top flight. ;)

On a more serious note I understand that some of these are established professionals with large clubs but if we really want to make it in the womens game, then I say go hard!

As Mao once said, women hold up half the sky. Spurs have it all before them. COYSW!

Short(ish) story to bore you with this lovely Saturday morning!!

A few years back I was on holiday abroad during the summer with the ex and a mate and his lady friend at the time.

The girls loved to sunbathe, me and my mate didn’t.

So, once afternoon we went off with a football and left the girls sunbathing by the pool.

Me and my mate are by no means professional footballers. However we are not terrible and can hold our own against most other non professional players and like to think we are pretty good.

Anyway, whilst kicking a ball between us and out of site of our girlfriends. We noticed two VERY good looking early 20’s women sunbathing in bikinis watching us. Wanting to impress like the juvenile men we are, we decided to show off and throw some tricks into the mix of our little kick about. Yep, that’s how pathetic we are!!

The lady’s soooo impressed with our amazing skills (at least that’s what we thought) moved away from the pool and came over to us.

Me and my mate forgetting we have our own (resented) girlfriends sunbathing about 50 meters away (thankfully out of sight) looked at each other and smiled thinking “we've done it, they want us!!”

The two girls came over and asked “can we join in please”. Me and my mate were a little shocked but agreed.

To cut what is becoming a long story short. It turns out that both these beautiful young women played football for England ladies and were comfortably better than us. We played ‘no bounce’, amongst other mini games (not the games me and my mate wanted to play with them I may add) and we didn’t win once, not even close.

Ever since this day, I have huge admiration for the professional women’s game and the ability they possess!

Come on England ladies!! ???????

Come on Spurs ladies!!

Going by what I read in the paper yesterday Lyon are paying their best players something like €30k a month, so it will be a while until Spurs are thinking about that.

Not sure where you read that but I know Lucy Bronze, she's one of Lyon's higher earners and she's on about 150k Euro a year. the women's game don't pay anywhere near to the amount you've quoted.

From this article

Crucially, they pay well, too. When L’Équipe published the salaries of the top French players at the World Cup they were led by Lyon’s Wendie Renard and Amandine Henry on €29,000 (£26,000) a month, with several other Lyon players on between €10,000-€18,000. Meanwhile Hegerberg is reportedly on somewhere around €34,000 a month. True, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will earn about 70 times that much. But for the women’s game these are extraordinary figures, especially for a team that does not regularly attract more than a few thousand supporters each week./QUOTE]

I see the article but i can assure you that she's not on that amount. Even the elite players like Marta, Morgan and Henry are on less than that.

Just to show the lack of consensus on the information here's an article from this month where they quote the average salary as being between 140-160k euros per year.

You seem to be more in the know on this so I'll take your word for it. Either way Spurs are going to go slowly on it I'm sure.

To be honest, i'm pleasently surprised at how much some of the top earners are getting as i didnt think it would even get to that level. Hagerberg, from what i understand, is the top earner at Lyon and she's probably close to 350k per year (unsure if thats euros or £ but its still a comfortable salary). the rest of the players in the league are not close to that (bar maybe 3 or 4 others in the French and US leagues)

We don't pay huge wages but don't underestimate the pull of good coaching at Hotspur Way, especially for good young players who won't get fist team football under Montemurro or Hayes.
