I can't believe that after a 6-1 win that I am sat here thinking that was a dreadful game. I don't know who they had in that box reviewing the footage but either his brain had frozen solid or there was something suspect occurring.
I don't think any of the calls he/she over ruled were obviously wrong:
Lamela's goal should have definitely stood, the first foul was committed by the defender. It was the sort of contact that occurs in the box every game without incident, unless of course you are Joe Allen who feels a tap on his shoulder and throws himself forward.
The Trippier foul was given as a free kick. Did the ref make an obvious error? No I don't think you can say that, it is one that is open to debate so isn't an obvious error.
The son incident silly mistake by Son but the encroachment occurred before the stutter step as far as I could see. Therefore should have been retaken as the encroachment was the first offence.
The penalty appeal on Lucas "Moira", don't mind this one too much as it is the correct use of VAR. However I think it was a penalty and should have been given....but like I said this was more debatable.
VAR clearly stands for "very asinine rulings". I thought serious game changing issues were to be reviewed but it was clear that pretty much every decision in the first half was being reviewed.
