Thought this might be the case. A deep playmaker would be useful and the fact he could play more than one position.
Haven't seenenough of him to say whether he could be good in that role though.

We don't have anybody else who does that deep lying playmaker role, apart from if we put Eriksen there, so it makes sense, gives us another option to change a game.

I think Barkley will turn into a great player under Poch and an excellent addition to the squad. Young and talented I think Poch will add the polish to him and remove the rough edges. He can be the new Gazza but at 30-35 million not 50.

I personally see Barkley as an attacking wide player drifting in like Bale. If I where to advise Barkley I'd insist he watches Ronaldo and Bale. He has athleticism good strength and a good striking action on the ball.

Just can't see that same explosion of pace and ability to cut inside that those 2 have. Barkley is much more of a clever 'touch' player, like Eriksen. Maybe if he can be moulded into a modric (keeping the ball moving) or dembele (confidence of picking the ball up deeper & driving on).
But you'll never get anywhere near the same attacking threat & goal ratio as those two offer, imo.

I'd like to see onomah given the chance in that position and spend some coin on a left footed, right sided attacking mf to compete with lamela

By watching Ronaldo and Bale one may learn a trick or two but that doesn't make on a "Ronaldo" or "Bale". I wish it was that easy though ;)
