It shouldn't be up to him, that's the coach's call. JM has to manage the team through the entire season, and if that means that Kane has to sit on the bench or be out of the team for some of the earlier European and League cup games, or be rested for "easier" games, then that surely will extend his career and make improve the chances that he is fit for the crucial games.

So JM should force the dissatisfaction that could see Kane out the door, tell him this is whats happening like or lump? You and I may feel that way but life doesnt work like that.

You can't entirely separate accidental injuries from potential fatigue impact. Most sports science suggests that if a body is fatigued when in an accidental injury situation, the impact of said situation can be a result of both the isolated incident and the fatigue.

For instance, just one example, if fatigued, then slower. If slower, then increased risk for suboptimal/altered timing. If suboptimal timing, then increase in risk for severe injury.

Hence, fatigue and accidents are much intertwined.

Milik would be a very good signing.
I don't think being well-rested would have prevented Kane's ankle buckling under Delph's challenge. Any ankle would give way if an adult man at full sprint stamps on it.

I would find it hard to believe that a young, hungry, English striker wouldn't have wanted to have come to us over Villa Shadydan and learn his trade from the best in the business. And with the cups and Ropey he would probably have been given plenty of opportunity. HK will need to start accepting that he cannot play every single game of every competition and Jose needs to manage that correctly this season.

I think anyone with ambition will want play first team Premier League football over sitting on the bench playing the odd Cup games and 10 mins here and there.

So to summarize, you think it's more likely that Kane will throw a hissy fit even though he's already stated on the Amazon documentary that the number of games over the Christmas/New Year period is crazy, and not be a smart professional and realize that this will not only increase the chances that he plays more games, but also extend his career in the long run? My money is that Kane is smart and will be on the same page as JM.

There's an interview with Ollie in today's Birmingham Mail where he explains that the deciding factor was mainly his familiarity and trust in Dean Smith from Smith's time as Brentford manager.

Fair point, but there's zero evidence that Kane has ever seen it that way. He's historically come back from injuries too quickly and Poch certainly didn't have the bottle to tell him to be sensible and bide his time for his own good.

I think Kane has learnt a lot from his injuries over the last couple of years and surely he sees that it takes him longer to get back up to sharpness with each injury. Wheras a few years ago he probably relished all the fixtures over the Christmas period, he now acknowledges that the players are not robots and that too many games are crammed into a short period. With all due respect to Poch, JM has been managing at a higher level for a lot longer than Poch, and knows how to handle big player egos better when it comes to handling the workload. Aguero had an issue with being rotated when Jesus joined City, but I'm sure he's really happy now with that extra year at City earning big money, unlike his friend Silva who realized he should leave before he really had a huge drop off in ability.

I think Kane has that elite mentality that puts him up there with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo, those sort of players expect to play every match or at least every significant match. There's this ongoing narrative that the club have been unfair to him and have rushed him back from injury, yeah possibly but let's not pretend that Kane doesn't have the final say on whether he plays, he's the club vice captain and talisman, there's absolutely no way that he doesn't dictate when he does and doesn't play - it's the same argument for the CL final where many people stated that Lucas should have started over Kane...yeah you try telling one of the world's best strikers that he's benched for CL final lol

There's also a small matter of or bonus system where it was revealed not to long ago that we play the highest match bonuses in the league which goes some way to make up the player's full monthly wage so if you're sitting on the bench you're losing money which is another incentive for him to play constantly.

Not arguing that Kane, especially in the past, wants to play every game - for both scoring records and bonuses. How much did Kane earn in bonuses during the periods he’s been out over the last 3 years? The CL is one thing that is a rare occasion and of course Kane pushed to play, arguably to the detriment on the team. Even Ronaldo and Messi get rested periodically, especially when there are big games coming up that they need to be ready for.

At 27 though and a few injuries the body does not recover as quickly, and if he doesn’t realize that rushing back is not beneficial to him as well as the team, then it’s up to the coaches and physios to make sure he gets it. JM knows that the lack of options cost us CL qualification this last year, and he will not want to have Kane play away in Bulgaria if we have Arsenal the following game. It’s about time we (coaches, players, fans) realize that this is a squad game, and we need everyone healthy and contributing if we’re going to win anything. FFS even the great Michael Jordan sat on the bench for as many minutes as possible to make sure he could be there when needed.

Ollie Watkins just been confirmed by Villa. Thought he would have been a very good option for us. Proven goal scorer in a tough league. So either we now cannot even compete with Villa in the transfer market. Which would be very alarming. Or Levy still has an ace up his sleeve. But I certainly won’t be holding my breath on that front. I’d be well happy if we were to get Milik through the door but fully expect that he will be too rich for us.

Or at least some Milik on the doorstep...

I dont know about the likelihood of any hissy fits but I dont believe Kane would expect any manager to be demanding he rests from England duties as some fans are hinting should happen. I'm not flogging this discussion anymore. I can live with your opinion, you just have to live with mine too. What happens will be determined elsewhere and you and I will have no influence.
