Not really related to Werner specifically but after that terrible performance and Dele's seemingly serious injury, we HAVE to buy someone. It was naive not to in the summer, but it is flat out unacceptable now if we don't.

Is that definitely legit? It makes complete sense to me and I hoped it was the case, but I've seen sooo many mentions of 'Chelsea getting Higuain in time for Tottenham' that I was beginning to doubt myself.
Yes as far as am aware. Always used to be the case. Will do some digging to be 100%

I’d prefer Haller and Jovic who are pulling up trees for Frankfurt. People are noticing. Time to get in before the price hike.

No he won't be not unless the rules have changed in the last year. He won't be legible to play in the cup match. The squad has to be registered before the first leg and any signings after that will be unable to feature as far as am aware
I don't know either way but SSN said Higauin needs to be signed before lunchtime Wednesday to be able to feature on Thursday. It is entirely possible they are full of shit though :D

Below is the section on players and registrations from the cup’s site. Doesn’t seem to say anything about needing to be registered in the first leg to play in the second leg. I know you need to be registered for the original fixture to play in an FA cup replay but I am guessing a second leg is defined differently to a replay, which is essentially just playing the same fixture again.

6 Players
6.1 In all rounds of the Competition a player shall be a “registered player” of his Club, as defined in Rule 6.2 below.
6.2 A registered player is:
6.2.1 in the case of a League Club, one who would be registered and eligible to participate in a League Competition match commencing at the same time and on the same date as the Competition match in accordance with the provisions of League Regulations; and
6.2.2 in the case of a Premier League Club, one who would be registered and eligible to participate in a Premier League match commencing at the same time and on the same date as the Competition match in accordance with the Premier League Rules, or would have been but for the operation of Premier League Rule U.1.1 (Squad List).
6.3 Players registered on a temporary basis will not be eligible to play unless the Club holding his full registration gives its written consent (also subject to any restrictions on the number of loan players prescribed by applicable Premier League Rules or League Regulations).
6.4 No player shall play for more than one Club in the Cup Competition in any one Season.
6.5 Each Club shall play its full available strength in and during all Cup Competition matches, unless some satisfactory reason is given. The Board will from time to time issue a policy as to what constitutes 'full available strength'. In the event of the explanation not being deemed satisfactory the Management Committee shall have power to impose such penalties as they shall think fit. The provisions governing disciplinary matters in relation to the Competition are contained in Rule 24.

What the actual fuck is going on at this club? What is the point of sweating blood and tears to get to this point only to apparently pull up the drawbridge and cease trading.

No one can convince me there is not one, solitary, affordable, obtainable player of sufficient quality to improve our squad out there that we could buy/loan. And if we can't find anyone then that just goes to show what shambles our scouting department is.

And I'm not having this 'stadium debt bollocks either. Future incomes from gate receipts, sponsorship/naming rights, tv and Champions league cover all that (No, I'm not an accountant or privy to our finances) and more.
Never have we had so much cash and so little desire to spend it.

It is very strange in all honesty. I also don't buy the whole finding it hard to get good enough players for the club. I mean that in the sense of I don't believe it takes only world class players to improve our team. We don't necessarily need a 'world class' striker in Kane's absence or a 'world class' midfielder to just add some vision and more creativity.

I fear that ENIC have put the club into heavy debt with the bank loans that they have reportedly taken to cover the ever increasing cost of the stadium, therefore there is nada to spend (even for loans), Poch know this and has excepted that he will have to make do, this is a terrible shame as I believe a couple of shrewd signings/loans would have been a massive boost for us.

Fixed your post. I'd say it has more to do with the lack of stadium naming rights and failure to shift Janssen and Nkoudou. Also don't forget we have the players it's just the vast number are unavailable. Dembele could be replaced as the most likely source. Can't see us going in for a striker when Son could be back at any moment. I think that tournament finishes on the 1st Feb.

It doesn't fit with the Poch methodology at all to suddenly say 'we're only interested in players already at a level to improve us'. We are where we are now precisely because players like Kane, Dele, Son, Winks, Dier, Sissoko etc etc have become much better players under his coaching. I also think that 'improving us' is primarily about upgrading the fringe players in the squad so that there is 100% competition for places across the board and nobody feels undropable. It would seem that the academy hasn't yet filled that role so we should be willing to take the odd punt on potential.

exactly. i'd say it's more likely we'd be signing the players a notch under the top tier because it's clear poch can push them to that next level as he's done with so many before. seems very weird as you'd expect us to have more options rather than less. makes our apparent apathy in the transfer windows even more baffling. do the scouts just sit there playing fortnite all day?

Exactly. If we can't buy the game's top stars then we need to be all over development players like Bowen, Aarons, Maddison and the like. Get them in now and re-tool them so they can play in Poch's system(s) in the course of the next season or two.

Thing is, when it doesn't work out and they bomb despite your best efforts, you have to be prepared to cut your losses and move on. Not go all anally retentive and hold out untill you've recovered every last farthing of your initial transfer outlay...

Sorry mate, but I don't buy that either. It's nothing more than a mortgage (albeit a billion pound one). No one has ever taken a mortgage out and then pleaded poverty when it comes to furnishing the purchased house.
