Levy stated the stadium won't impact transfer funds?

We surely can't have relied on CL qualification to fund the stadium? (rhetorical)
And it hasn't there is circa 100 mil available. Prices for players have skyrocketed since we started the stadium build.

Levy said that a long time ago now, as Trix just said, the stadium has cost almost twice as much as we expected, on top of that we’ve had to pay to play at a different venue for the last two years.

People seem to think we can just print our own money. We can’t. We are not backed by the sovereign wealth of an oil rich dictatorship like some other clubs.

Of course my own opinion is there is no set amount just a ball park figure that is somewhat flexible. That said I'm sure £70 mil+ for Werner would undoubtedly have a knock on affect to who else we'd be able to bring in, and we are desperate for a CM as well. Personally I think this is a problem for DL and he will no doubt be trying to work in both players for the money we have available which could well cost us getting either.

DL has his flaws but they are by no means the only reason we don't sign players.

Thanks Trix. I wonder if Levy is getting frustrated by Poch's perfectionist attitude. Daniel lives a bargain superstar, but no point presenting Poch with a VdV type signing and pissing Poch off.

Aha bit this is the VVD buy him immediately price that so many think we should just pay. That's why it's not a reality for us because as you say his contract doesn't reflect this price. So buy him today and chew into your other funds or wait and negotiate possibly 10-20 mil off that price. Hence why I said earlier in the thread there would need to be movement from both sides to get this done.

I guess the issue is that a lot of other clubs will bite at said lower price in the summer, likely taking us out of the equation like with Rabiot/De Jong. It is where we may have to change tact in future (Liverpool and Chelsea seem to be realising this first).

The question is how high up our shortlist Werner is as to whether it is viable however. I don't think many people would argue that CM should be our #1 priority and the area we should spend big on, even after Kane's injury. I also suspect Werner isn't even our top attacking target, even if he ticks all the boxes.

Apparently Liepzg is gonna buy Calhanoglu from Milan for 22M Euros. He is not 1:1 Werner replacement, but at least something is happening.

If we pay £70m for a player like Werner we need our heads look8ng at. Far better spent on a top CM. Werner’s stats look good but he didn’t look very good at all in the World Cup .
Agree with the first part but the entire Germany team looked terrible at the WC. Great players look crap at international tournaments all the time - remember Kane at the Euros?

Well if this is going to happen it needs to happen pretty quickly, we can’t afford to wait for the usual from Daniel Levy of waiting until the end of the window in the hope of getting a lower price.

Poch has had to make do, but he has got to a point where he wants the quality players he believes will take us forward, so the question should be "will Poch get fed up with DL's inability to deliver?"

The thing with Werner - I don't think he is really competing for time with Kane. He will fit in any slot across the front 3.

So, perhaps a switch to a 433

Werner Kane Son

Dele Lamela

Dier

Rose Jan Toby KWP

Lloris

This assumes Erisken is off in the summer. Leaves Lucas on the bench, and we would probably want one more in - Grealish or Bowen to help with the HG requirements. We would still have Winks and Sissoko who could play in a CM3

I like that front 3. Each having their own prowess.

This one doesn't really make any sense to me.

1. He's too good to be a backup to Kane.
2. If we play them together he'll play the Son/Lucas role - a position in which we're already stacked.
3. He'll be expensive and we're not exactly flush with cash.

Considering the above why the hell would we spend 40/50/60 million on Werner when we're absolutely gagging for a midfielder?
I suppose we could play 2 up top as we have a lot this season but surely we should be investing that kind of money more wisely.

Stacked as in Son is away and has missed multiple games this season due to internationals, Moura is injured and hasn't proved himself over a long period of time yet, and Lamela is seemingly always a few games away from injury, and our only exact striking back-up for Kane is Llorente, who is off. In what way are we "stacked"?

When everyone was hot on Martial, what was the difference? Someone who can play up top if needed, but is actually more suited to wide support role? Werner has a much better record than Martial and is younger.

Lucas Moura's goal to game ratio is franking embarrassing compared to Werner and he's four years older – and he's played five of his years for the best club in Ligue 1, a league substantially worse than the Bundesliga. Werner's done it at a promoted team and helped fire them to all kinds of records for the best performances by a promoted team in German history.

I agree on the expensive bit. In this market, he'll go for tonnes. Only bonus is he's nearing end of contract, but that means bigger clubs can offer huge wages and signing on bonuses.
