We don’t want to spend 80% of our budget on one player, so instead we’ll spend 0% of our budget bringing in zero players.

Great.

if we have 100m why would we spend 70-80m on Werner when we are desperate for a CM and CDM, especially when our main strength is in attack.

yes Alli is injured, Son will be back in 2 weeks, but when fit we are very strong up top. we do need to replace Llorente, but going to be hard to find 1 that might want to sit on the bench most of the time. we have proved last season, that when Kane was out we still got results.

don't get me wrong I would love Werner in a Spurs shirt, but not if it meant we couldn't get a genuine CM

Especially if this 70-80% will drop to 30-40% in the summer due to his contract situation. Long term it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

You have to factor in that in the summer there may be more competition for him. Also I'd rather him than no one!

Herc suggesting in the De LongDong Jong thread that the financials are difficult to balance for Werner. I wonder if they become more possible if one of our targets is French, frustrated in Paris and running down his contract? Too many rainbow wishes probably but I’ll go sleepy bobos on that thought
Theres an alternate reality where we get Rabiot, Berge & have big money to add another attacker like Werner.. Unfortunately we don't live in that world.

70-80m for Timo Werner is nonsensical. Truly mad.
Really, when we’d want a similiair if not more amount for Alli?

Ridiculous to say we don’t want to blow out budget on one player, any board member can see this is a unique situation and any business would apply common sense to extending the budget or making cuts elsewhere given this is the main earner.

Need to act soon on these sort of players to stop Bayern. Might already be too late.

Nope. It's the going rate, we need to get real on fees

Then we better wait till we have that kind of money spare so that we can cover the important positions 1st.

We are not a club that has money coming from everywhere all around the world. I think we have only just improved our shirt deal with Nike but it’s still nowhere near others. We haven’t sold a player for silly money since Bale, and until we get a naming right for the new stadium we have to pay for a stadium that’s cost us in the region of double that was originally planed.

To us Spurs fans we are a massive club, in the world of finances we are not there yet. Just one season in the new stadium with a top notch naming right deal will get the ball rolling, but until then it’s going to need something most SC members haven’t got “PATIENCE”.

No one can really preach patience at spurs fans. I've never seen us win a major trophy, I know it's not our God given right but the old patience line wears a bit thin.

Can see why Poch only wants the players he wants and not what the club can get ,seeing we’re now linked with Nikola Kalinic

From what ITK say - i take it that poch has very specific targets, rightly so, we are at the stage now that we have a world class starting 11(when all fit) we have exceptional 3/4 subs, but it us the players under them, where we are struggling, the dynamics are changing slightly as dembele has gone and Llorente is now past it, but it is no good buying typical Jansens, nK, - standard type players.

They are not at the level required, they take up squad spaces and are hard to shift, the problem with the level of player we are looking at is that other clubs are also options for them.

We may match fees and wages - but the lure of the top 6-10 European clubs is greater. So players wait and see before deciding. Now if we can't get de Jong because he wants Barcelona - and they want him, there is nothing we can do about that, what poch rightly doesn't want to do is accept a player who is no where near that level (nkoud) standard, trying to find the level we want, from a club who is prepared to sell said player, isn't so easy.

Maybe an available target at the said level is waiting to see what their options are and we are that players 2nd/3rd option.

I've not seen us lift 1 for a very long time, but we have won 10 in my lifetime. for most of those years we never had transfer windows, but with the introduction of the PL and CL and the money that come with it, to then have 2 clubs purchased and have had money thrown at it means the 3 domestic trophies are so much harder to compete for.

Man C are just about to reach their 4 League cup since being taken over, but look at their squad, wage bill and squad value and literally every player if not all have been purchased since the take over, I don't think they have many players that were bought for less than 40m plus in the last few seasons. to be able to compete with that legally, you need a stadium the size of United's the history of United's, and owners as rich like City that can throw money at it like it's Monopoly money.

yes I know Leicester won it 2015/16, a season we had only 3pts after the 1st 4 matches, with the youngest squad in our PL history. I doubt anyone ever thought that would happen, and Leicester did it playing the least amount of fixtures a team in the top division has ever done, hardly picked up any injuries and had a settled starting XI with the majority playing close on to 38 games.

I hope you get to see us lift a trophy, but it will be a lot harder than it used to be, unless we get someone that buys us, and uses it's pocket money buying success

If really spending these amount can get him, I think is worth it.

Such amounts are fairly easy to recoup now, especially if we are consistently in the CL. And by getting him, our chance of consistently getting CL will also be higher I would say.

Article suggesting Byern are worried Liverpool could beat them one or both of Werner and/or Hudson-Odoi

We are being left for dust by their spending, it's crazy - I'd love one of those two

I'd hold horses on that one, Liverpool spent big in the summer, they had Coutinho money which allowed it, It does not appear sustainable to me. maybe I'm just convincing myself though.

Werner seems like a lazy link for Liverpool to me personally. Klopp being German and they play crazy fast forwards.

But who knows. They also went way above their spending with the Coutinho money.

Yeah I feel like they had a budget and then the Coutinho fee steroided it. I agree with you though, I feel we are a better fit for Werner.

People keep talking about the Coutinho fee. If Madrid buy Eriksen for 100 mill (in the papers) and Toby goes for £25mill...do you really think we are going to buy big name players like Liverpool...no chance!

We will wait for Werners price to go down in the Summer and a bigger team will come in and take him before we have a chance.

We are always one step behind and thats because we dont gamble when it really matters.
