Something off of the current state of affairs. What was the point of this special relationship with Real Madrid. We are no where close to signing any of their players they offload

Don't think that it's about players. The Defoe transfer to Toronto shows that any deals we do has multiple layers.

It was never about players, it was sharing marketing opportunities and getting Spurs shirts into the Real shops all over the world. And them doing that so we were on good terms when they moved for Bale - that is all.

yeah. friedel was still a competent keeper last season so i doubt he's lost it over the past couple of months. i'm not sure if vorm is even worth 5m in isolation either, did he not lose his place to tremmel last season? why has he just been replaced by fabianski?

Vorm's monetary value (last updated around the January transfer window) is £6.1 Million according to Transfermarkt.de. In fact, the Swans paid Utrecht approx. £4.4 Million for him three years ago.

So ultimately this seems like it could potentially be an excellent piece of business for us at around £5 Million. Especially if you throw in the 3 years of PL experience under his belt. (y)

IMHO it wouldn't be prudent to pass up on a deal like this (if indeed we were presented with the aforesaid terms). :)

I'd be extremely surprised if Vorm did come in. He would have a choice of clubs elsewhere to play far more minutes than regular cup games for us. Unless the club are putting plans in place for when Lloris departs...

Little Danny will be thinking along this line

Worm in for 5-6m,offer comes in for Lloris between 15-20m and he's off

Make up some ground on Southampton in the balance sheet league

It's not good value. £5m would possibly make him the most expensive back-up keeper in history.

Remember we only paid £7.8m for Lloris.

If he was a decade younger, he'd maybe be worth a punt, but you can get competent back-up keepers for virtually free. And any injury to Lloris you use the emergency GK loan system.

then maybe he is better than the "average back up keeper"

he played for the Dutch in the WC game against Brazil, he was subbed on in the second half

the thing is that if Hugo is injured we a probably setting the bar a bit higher than just an average back up keeper, how is this a bad thing ?

You don't need a more than average back up keeper though because you can emergency loan GKs in the event of an injury, even outside a transfer window.

£5m is an awful lot of money for someone who will never play more than 3rd rate matches. Especially when we are having to sell-to-buy to raise funds to strengthen priority areas.

Theres not many GK's that are as competent coming off the line though, especially on a free transfer. Personally I'm ok with Brad as no2 but £5m for Vorm doesnt seem outrageous to me, and the added factor of getting Gylfi's wages off the books makes it more viable.

Just someone random like Cerny or Pletikosa does the job.

Friedel has just extended his contract, so next summer we look for someone like that to replace him (or promote Archer). You certainly don't need 3 senior GKs on your books, especially when that's 18% of your oversees quota on one position.
