Barcelona wouldn’t bid for Eriksen, Levy wouldn’t accept a huge profit on a player, or Eriksen wouldn’t want to play for Barcelona? Which one do you doubt?

Even Levy wouldn't be so stupid as to sell a key player after the window for incomings in closed.

And 75 mill is laughable

We could have sold our deadwood at 10m a pop and made 40m or something. Sissoko, GKN, Janssen, Llorente, whomever else. We didn't even try by the looks of it. It's like they really didn't give a fuck at all
Well, hang on a sec. You're forgetting the window is still open elsewhere. There was no incentive for clubs to buy these players before the PL deadline, which is why it was so foolhardy for the deadline toi be brought forward without the same happening ion other countries.

Rewind to the end of the season.

"Levy wouldn't be so stupid to not back Poch while going into a new stadium"

NOTHING would surprise me, especially if Eirksen hasn't signed a new contract before the end of August.

ok so our squad wasn't good enough last year to mount a serious challenge for domestic trophy. We haven't improved that squad and moving into a new stadium. Could be a serious risk to the progression of this club.

Agree its a risk but you say squad wasnt good enough....possibly yes but i still maintain if our 1st team played we would have got to final of cup and i think won it

Janssen wasn't sold last summer when the windows were alligned. We then got £6m for a year loan after our window was closed. If a club wants them and they think the deal is good they'll do business, because someone else might.

Lloris was the only one missing.

If the issue is the market being crazy because of the early close and we can’t sell players then all that can be fixed in the remainder of the European window. Ship out Janssen et al and agree purchases now for January. Anyone expect that to happen ? Hell no because it is all excuses, all to cover up our lack of funds due to us not getting a naming sponsor. It’s really annoying me now how Levy has Poch trotting out the party line on stadium cost. Does anyone really believe the stadium is costing £1bn or that costs have gone up 30% due to Brexit ? A 5 y/o can pick holes in that. The stadium is costing about £400m the rest of the cost is on ancillary building projects, all of which are presumably only being built because they are supposed to be profitable and should be financed on a standalone basis. Building inflation has been about 5% post Brexit suggesting it is 30% is to suggest all the materials are coming from the EU and all the workers are paid in Euro. Just utter nonsense. I hate being taken for a mug and right now Levy is taking us all for mugs.

Brave - you know what would be brave ? Levy in a room with a bunch of season ticket holders immediately after this window closed. He might not get out alive.

Very good post mate. I don’t know why Poch is going along with this, no one wants to hear their club manager talking politics, especially so inaccurately. Makes him look daft and is damn annoying.

Its done and we screwed it up, the whole shortening of window and world cup didnt help one bit and i am interested to see what happens now European clubs can still do business

Am I disappointed....not really because i dont know enough of what has really happened, poch must have been talking to levy and between the two of them if they agreed what went on was the right thing then i am happy

And what if we had no offers?

What if European clubs waited until after the English window closed to bid because they knew they could get them cheaper?
We can't just wave a magic wand and force a club to bid on players when we want them to.

I've been watching Spurs for over 50 years and I've seen many favourite players come and go, when Greaves went to West Ham and Peters came to us, home crowds fell by approx 5,000 for a while. Yet despite all the gloom we won 3 cups in 4 years. Players move on, but the club continues. No matter which player leaves there is always a replacement or a tactical change that ease the transition. Good management and adaptability count, so to an extent does luck. People wanted Ramos out, but we won a cup when he was in charge. Keep the faith and the wheel will spin.

I didn't realise that deal was that good. Phenomenal business to get that much for a loan, when you think about it.

Were the 10th (?) richest club in the world; we managed to buy Davinson for £40m or something last year and you're telling me that this year we couldn't afford to pay a bit more to get one quality CM into the club? Absolute bullshit.

What if the one we identified was just too far out of reach this time around? Pochettino is well known to be extremely fussy about the kind of player he wants, maybe he felt it was best to hold fire and keep Dembele for another season instead of fork out £40m+ on an alternative that he didn't quite like. This squad has achieved top 3 at least for 3 seasons running now, maybe it was the smart choice to keep them all together until the person he's identified either becomes available again or another one comes up.

It don't look good when just coming out of a transfer window but we were one of the few teams to strengthen in January and we have competition and cover all over the squad still, so all isn't as bad as it seems

Last season we finished a distant 3rd in the league and were generally competitive in the cups, if we genuinely wanted to progress beyond that, then I think it is clear our squad needed strengthening and a couple of key man risks needed addressing. In particular we have been extremely lucky Eriksen has not had any serious injuries and in my view we have no real cover for him and he is also largely the only real creative player we have.

For me the only rational explanation for our total lack of activity in the TW is that we are under serious financial constraints - that is the stadium costs are going through the roof. Stories of poor contracting, ever changing requirements and contract management issues in relation to the stadium project have even found their way down to NZ. If it's not the stadium then hey we were just inept in identifying genuine gettable targets and executing.

Last year we also played all of our matches away from home. We had ten less points than the previous season because of it. As of about 6 weeks time the team, the best in forty or fifty years based on league performance will be playing at the place it will call home for generations to come. We've come through a transitional period not only by securing a top 3 place again, but in doing so have Pochettino, Kane, Sanchez, Winks, Lamela, Lucas, Foyth & Son tied down long term to the club with the strong possibility based on what's been said here that Dele & Eriksen have potentially followed suit. It ain't great as Grealish should be a Tottenham boy now but we've got the nucleus, an extremely young and talented one tied down for a few years yet bar Eriksens contract running for a further year come next summer. It isn't doom and gloom, it's the club finally having the foundations it's wanted for decades settled down so we can progressively move forward as a big club for years to come.

One signing doesn't make a difference, it happens all the time. Even Ferguson missed out on players he wanted, such as Lucas Moura before he moved to PSG because it goes that way sometimes. All is good even if the squad could have done with a little freshening up. Time to look forward to the new season being in our incredible 62,000 seater home

Despite all the pearl clutching and doom-mongering, signing nobody was a genuinely innovative thing to do. It hadn't been done til now in the history of the summer transfer window system. Poch's statements make it pretty clear that he wasn't on the edge of his seat or that his grand plans are in tatters. We have embarrassed ourselves in the past regarding last minute signings and last minute 'explainers' of how we just fell short of getting superstar X over the line. It is as important that we had nobody picked off, which has been a regular feature of our upturn in recent years, including last summer with Walker.

We've become a club that pays 200K a week, and that has stabilized our strategy of not getting picked off by mega bids and wages elsewhere. I was, and am still, more concerned with losing someone like Rose, who could rebound to be a key team member again this season. If we consider a potentially fit and firing Rose, Lamela, Winks, Moura, & Alderweireld contributing much more this season than last, then there may not be a strength in depth issue if injuries don't accumulate.

I don't think anyone is going to cut in to Man City's dominance, and we've as much chance as the rest to make a mark on the season.

If you ever needed proof that Joe Lewis plan all along was to sell once stadium was built, then you have your answer.. Levy will get most of hate.. when the guy that could of invested when owners could do it without ffp, done f* all.. not Levy fan as a negotiator but the wrinkly ballsack Lewis gets a free ride when he's the biggest culprit.. Levy's job ain't easy however imo he's doing exactly what he's instructed to..
