3 academy players starting V Barca tonight ( 4 if rose counts. I don’t though )

That'll definitely get overlooked by the press. Loved it. Harry and Danny looked like they were born there. Winks took awhile to believe he deserved to be there but grew all the time and kept trying to make it happen. KWP needs to check his boots but again came through under enormous pressure. Proud.

I thought Harvey White had a really good game. always knows where to be and what to do, a bit like Skipp in that sense

better than skipp?

Ye. When Kirby was here them 3 were all outstanding but Kirby and TOB were technically better players, whereas Skipp was a bit more limited. It's always hard saying this as it comes across as you don't rate someone but Skipp is a proper player, quality DM his ability going forward is probably underrated and he is probably still top 5 CMs I've seen for us at u16/18 level but I TOB and Kirby were special talents.

I struggle to believe that TOB has just lost his talent, but as we know talent alone won't get you far. Skipp's got that mentality and work rate and reliability about him that helps him. TOB though has really skill, composure and ability, but I cottoned on quite early, to the fact he seemed to struggle when he was expected to be the leader like he'd rather be a small fish in a big pond. Whereas Kirby was the one that made things happen. When Kirby left I think TOB struggled, but realistically he is still the most talented player. However, performances over the last couple of years haven't shown that to be the case, and there is no denying that Skipp has performed excellently. Pleased to see TOB had a good game today and hopefully it gives him the confidence to find himself again. Skipp is still one of the best academy players I've seen but TOB was better. It all comes down to what makes a player good? Is it what they've shown over years in the past or what has happened now, and does the present completely negate anything that has happened in the past.

There's a reason TOB stayed in the England setup for so long despite performing badly with us, while Skipp didn't get called up. England will generally choose the best players available. There's a reason he was training with the first team and not allowed to play for the academy while Skipp was. And there's a reason why the former Spurs and Chelsea coach said that Kirby and TOB were the best players he's ever worked with, he would of course have worked with Skipp too.

Of course if TOB doesn't ever recover his form, and Skipp continues to progress there will be a point he overtakes him, but I wouldn't say that's happened quite yet in my eyes. However, Skipp is top tier material and should become a very good PL players. The margins are so fine, I feel it's probably unfair to really compare them.

Whilst I agree, you make your own luck - and Roles seems to be someone who makes things happen
That may be the case but did you also notice he played as a left winger again which is clearly not his position , but still manages to influence the game . How many players can do that ? Take all this stuff I’m reading about onomah , he’s not playing well as he’s not being played in his position , Roles I believe has played in multiple positions but still manages either to assist or score or effect a game . Does that not tell you something .
Well done to all the lads today !

For sure, I agree with you both. I like Roles and I hope the coaches reward his goals/assist output with opportunities to train and travel with the 1st team.

notice how a lot of those references are for u16 and below, that was three years ago now, at some point he's going to need to actually deliver on some of that early promise. plus skipp has always played up a year so comparisons with tob and kirby aren't entirely fair, especially at a younger age where the difference between one year group to the next is more significant. tob was ahead(though not by much) when poch took him up to the first team but skipp was only just leaving school by that point whilst tob was entering his 2nd year, it wouldn't have been logical to take skipp up so early.

you can say there's a reason tob has been ahead of skipp for england but equally i could say there's a reason tob has been getting benched by players one or even two years younger than him for spurs, yes he has missed a decent chunk of football in that time but even before disappearing with the first team he was only doing OK. skipp has been one of our best players in 90% of the games he's played, i don't think tob has ever shown anywhere near that level of consistent quality. i can probably only recall 3 or 4 times he's put in a performance of that level, the rest of the time he just leaves me feeling that he should be doing a hell of a lot more. he has some decent technical ability and some good athleticism(something he doesn't use enough of) but mentally he just doesn't seem to be switched on in the same way that skipp is, it also doesn't help that he often plays as though he's just rolled out of bed.

i want him to come through as much as anyone but he can't just be given it because he looked good for england at the nike cup a few years ago. he was decent yesterday, now he needs to put in that kind of performance and better on a more weekly basis rather than letting games pass him by.

Bowden pass made the 2nd goal timed the pass to Roles perfectly ( I think it was Bowden)

I've found it interesting watching Roles on the left as it exposes a weakness that maybe gets obscured when he plays centrally, which is his untidy feet when dribbling. Still love him though.
He is so much a Dele Alli style player it's ridiculous. Right down to his petulance as well.

Hinds did excellently for that first goal
Both goals were all about effort and not giving up on the play. Several Barca players really shut off on the first goal, I guess because they were expecting the whistle for the foul, because at least two of them could have gotten to the ball before anything happened.

I’m dreaming of a spurs team with Kane, Winks, Skipps and KWP as established regulars ???

Would mean much more to me than just buying glory.

He looks more like a CDM. But at this age I think a lot are still finding their natural positions he’s only 17.

Started as a typical Spurs 10 in the Ericksen mould but over time has been moved deeper to dictate play, there could be a variety of reasons for the move but I suspect it is to improve his defensive play and to help him develop his creative awareness with more of the game ahead of him. A different way of saying the same thing is that as a 10 he was used in the attacking phase where as we're trying to develop his game in the defensive and transition phase.

Has Brandon Austin had a bit of a growth spurt. Some pictures on Getty standing next to Gazzaniga and only looks about an inch shorter which would make him 6 4 “. Definitely starting to look a bit of unit. Always felt he had more natural ability than Whitman. If he gets the extra stature could have a real chance of making it.
