Arsenal have a top academy at the moment. Their 01/02s are some of the best ever. If we win this league, with your usual Chelsea around as well it will be an incredible achievement especially when you consider we lost Madueke and have few getting international recognition.
I've been meaning to ask about this for a while. This is probably the most dominant I've ever seen our u18s in terms of results, and we have a lot of players putting in great individual seasons from the sound of things - notably Walcott, Binks, Lyons-Foster, Cirkin, Shashoua, White, Markanday, Bennett and Parrott. Yet so few of the English lads are getting any form of international recognition. It just seems very strange. I know England are great at these age groups, but whilst it looks like Arsenal and Spurs are by far the strongest in terms of club performance, only Arsenal seem to be getting the international callups. Does anyone who watches these kids more than I do have an explanation for this seeming disparity?

i don't know, i think the general perception is that we have a really strong team with many good or even very good individuals but perhaps none who are considered exceptional. this isn't just our strongest u18 group in recent years, it's one of the strongest anywhere(in terms of results at least) since the inception of the u18 league. it's only an equally strong arsenal side that's going to stop them from being rewarded at the end of the season and by all accounts we outplayed them the other day when it was 11v11 and even with 10 we managed to hold out for 45 minutes, just couldn't quite hold on for five or so more.

going through those you've listed; walcott has been in england squads semi-regularly but not been in the past few, i think he's had a good season but even though i don't know loads about those he's competing with i don't think it's a great travesty that he hasn't been in recently. binks has been in and out of squads but was in the most recent one so his form seems to have been recognised. lyons-foster similarly has been on the periphery of a strong england age group, he did work his way back in but then suffered a really bad injury which put him out for a few months, after that he struggled to get back to his best but over the past month or two he's looked like he's getting there, like a few of our lads though i think there are questions over him physically so that might be what's keeping him out. cirkin has been a regular starter for england but wasn't called up to the last squad at all, i don't know why, perhaps rotation but with the u17 euros coming up soon we'll see where he's at. shashoua's never been called up, he's a 2000 born so part of the strongest england group and the player you'd compare him to most would be angel gomes so it's tough competition. even though england are producing more technically gifted players now i do think those small crafty/creative types are still overlooked somewhat, you go through each england squad and there aren't many of them about. markanday's in a similar boat but in the year below, that age group have a lot of pacey/direct attacking players and i think he could offer something a bit different but again it's strong competition. white's not had any call-ups either, maybe not considered physical enough i'm not sure. bennett got called up in november but not for the more recent one, i guess he just didn't do enough to keep his place, i think he just needs to find a bit more consistency which will hopefully come next year.

i'm sure they're all on england's radar but the lack of call-ups is a bit disappointing. still, when you see someone like kwp who has been in the england set-up for years and contrast him to where wan-bissaka or max aarons are now(who until their breakthroughs hadn't been called-up) then you see that whilst international recognition is a decent guide for a player's quality or future, it's not a perfect one.

Probably the wrong place to post this since he is an ex Spurs youth player, but Nya Kirby scored a beaut of a volley for Blackpool v Luton.

Yesterday our Under-16s won 2-0 against Aston Villa. Nile John got a goal and an assist and Eddie Carrington got an assist.

The last U17 squad didn't contain any of the players who weren't born in England. Simeu, Cirkin, Okoflex, Musah, Carvalho, Sarmiento. Cirkin, Musah + Carvalho are all dead certs. I think as it's the first official UEFA fixtures they've had, there was a hold up in processing them for eligibility.

He's definitely their first choice left back and possibly their most well thought of natural left back from U16s-U21s.

I thought the issues were around dual nationality, and the rule change where once committing at youth level now it means you can't change as an adult. So some of the players are holding out before they make a decision on where they want to play.

Whereas before they could switch later they can't now, or have I got that wrong? Apparently Walcott can also represent USA and could be a reason why he may not be selected as well. Others may be more confident in their ability like Madueke to represent England in the future but I believe some may have that decision to make

Nah, it's because of registration + UEFA paperwork hold up. Same thing happened with Arvin Appiah at the U17 Euros last year. Didn't even come through until after the first group game. With England getting a bye through the first round of qualifying, it's exacerbated things. Just like the Euros where England qualified as hosts. Seems like something that could've been sorted out months in advance, but these things are always a bit bewildering. UEFA/FIFA need to do all the checks on 5 years of Education etc and it seems like it's just a bit sloppy.

That's been the rule for years now and has never been an issue before.

Feel like Dennis Cirkin is one of our brightest prospects without much hype around him. Future first teamer.

Really pleased he is really getting that recognition. I rated him really highly in the academy when he was younger, and I remember the first real look fans got at him was in a tournament and he took on some criticism, but I had a feeling it was just a bad tournament at the time for him. Since he has gone from strength, and is showing what I thought he could do.

Up there with one of the best full backs I've seen but in an understated way. This probably comes across more underwhelming than I intend it, but he really reminds me of Ben Davies.

Quality player and had those in his locker with us. Don't really know what's going to happen with him at Palace, but hopefully he gets a look-in there

I think it’s kind of obvious with Cirkin. He reminds me a lot of Shaw. Has all the attributes to be a top LB and age wise would dovetail perfectly with Rose fading out.

first appearance for u16 dermi lusala and bowden is back after about four months out.

1-0: 15 - GOAL! Markanday with a neat through ball for Parrott who runs on and converts from the left angle.

If lamela isn’t fit for Huddersfield I’d seriously think about Parrott for bench. Llorente basically be only attacking Sub option.
