I really don'y understand Roles not even training with the first team.....I just don't see what more he can do or a single reason he hasn't been included.

If Roles doesn’t get a chance for Palace at least bench, it’s hard to see he ever will considering the current situation.

I watched the Pochettino interview & found it very insightful.

It looks like he places a high price on the character of a person, in & outside of football & not just their ability with the ball at their feet (makes sense with Sissoko’s selection for 2 years). Also he doesn’t seem to put a specific timescale on development, he mentioned some people get it in 3 months, others it might take 2 years, so there is no rush.

I think it’s generally accepted in life that if you are liked, regardless of ability, you are generally afforded more opportunities than someone who’s a bit of a w****r and why should football be any different?

Using Edwards as a case in point. If it’s generally accepted among the squad that currently he’s a bit of a twat & they don’t want to play with him that may partially be why he’s not been included? Pep shifted Ronaldinho due to attitude after all he achieved for Barca.

Looking at our squad from the outside, they look like a nice bunch of guys. Regardless of footballing ability, work rate in training blah blah. If he demands that everyone behaves in a certain way, and treats one another with respect, if that’s an issue for Edwards, then he’s a young man and needs to take responsibility because that’s should be the easiest thing to amend.

Attitude seems to be why Janssen has been excluded & why he got rid of established first team players in Kaboul, Capoue, Lennon & co after a few months for inexperienced players like Mason. At that time the disconnect between fans & players was massive & Poch brought that connection back & if that is in part to these basic principals I’m all for it.

Life isn’t fair & isn’t black & white (Trippier playing over KWP as an example IMO) but he’s getting more right that wrong.

Also, this talent drain by Germany. Other than Sancho, what young player has gone to Germany over the last 2/3 years and got bundles of minutes as an 18/19/20 year old? English or otherwise?

Haven’t heard much about Bennetts, Azzaoui, Oxford, Egbo etc. Sancho’s been outstanding but is it fair to use him as the poster boy for ‘look what happens when these players are given a chance’?

If Hudson-Odoi goes to Bayern & bombs, would it be fair to say Chelsea were right & that English system is correct & Sancho is a freak/one off?

Youth development is so complex but hopefully over the next few years, these boys get minutes be it in England (hopefully) or abroad & we see whether the best youth players then become best seniors or if there are other factors etc.

Would be good to read this thread in say 4 years & see where they are all at (if all given 1st team opportunities at various clubs).

If their ever was a u23 match that you desperately wanted to win then tonight was the night because Athletic Bilbao was one of the dirtiest teams I have seen in a long time at this level of football.

All through the match they was Deliberately taking out our key players and off the ball some Dark Arts was going on and Janssen was getting wound up all through the match because of it,But the thing was when ever their player got touched down they would go screaming and asking the ref for bookings.

Athletic Bilbao was not a bad team football wise they was the better team in large parts of this match but they was so Dirty I was happy they got what they Deserved......"Dirty F**kers"

Completley agree.. Loved the no7's 'hold me back, hold me back' routine when the ball hit him. Accidently and he squared up to georgiou I think.. Or the right back going down like a sack of shit after we'd been given a free kick about 10secs earlier then making a miracle recovery.. Not for the crowd to be very vocal. Till then.. Some great shirt pulling antics and niggly kick bite scratch punch moments.. Been very well. Schooled in the dark arts.

Very happy to see De Bie get a run out tonight,he was to blame for one of the goals with a bad pass out from the back but he had a brilliant night pulling off 3or4 top saves and once again saving a pen.

do you have any evidence for that claim?

No evidence, more a summation.

I assume we aren’t just adverse to playing generational talents & deliberately self sabotaging, so there must be some issue. Especially as Pochettino suggested that they have to be accepted not only by him but the squad.

Also, I think i saw someone mention on Twitter when he scored his first goal, it was apparent only one teammate celebrated with him. That seems slightly strange?

To be fair it was a goal that made it 1-2 and isn't really celebrated in the same way as an opener, equaliser etc.

Cirkin had a very good game but i do want to see their first goal because their player ran between Cirkin and Eyoma and they should have dealt with him better than they did.
