What are people's thoughts about the U23 league? Listening to the Set Piece podcast and they were scathing, basically the matches are like an u18 training game. Would explain why Poch likes to get the more progressed players out of there fairly sharpish to avoid it causing bad habits/lack of intensity

Not a massive fan of it. It always feels like clubs play as young a team as possible so they can have bragging rights if they do beat an older team, rather than just focusing on playing the players that need to play. As such it isn't as competitive as it could/should be and it is almost just like an u18s competition. Would be more useful if squad/reserve players played in it, to regain fitness and to coach others. I'd like us to sign another Khumalo or Hall, or an experienced player who's been out injured for a while who needs fitness, and make an agreement where he will just play for our u23s. Someone to guide the younger players and a consistent face. At the moment it is all a mish mash. Doesn't help that none of ur best academy players play in it as it is.

I'd also arguably switch the whole set-up to match Europe, and change the u18s to u17s, then have u19s and either 21s or 23s.

Would allow more players more opportunities to come through

The lady who sits behind me at work has a 7 year old son who has just been brought into whatever setup Spurs have for that age. He does his first training session next week and his mum spent last week scouring the internet for Spurs replica kits in kid sizes for him to show up in on his first day... much, she was telling me, to the chagrin of his dad who is a diehard Arsenal fan and is super pissed off that she is spending a load of money to kit him out in our colours! :ROFLMAO:

Our u15s beat Fulham 4-1 today

And our u14s qualified for the premier league tournament. They were in a group with Chelsea and West Ham I think.

Binks is playing for Scotland against Croatia tomorrow

IGS - how long have you been following the youth sides? It appears that we have never had so much potential coming through before. In the past there was always the odd one, can you put your finger on when and how that all changed?

I'm no expert, but the Mason/Townsend/Caulker/Kane generation all joined the academy around the time ENIC bought the club, so I'd guess ENIC have invested in our youth academy and it's finally starting to pay off?

Interesting there are 2 u15s. Particularly the inclusion of Binks. It could be simple availability, but the fact that he is on the bench ahead of Walcott and Statham must indicate that he is highly rated. If he comes on don''t know how many u15 CBs would have made appearances at u18s. FWIW I really like Binks but Statham is an u16 and Walcott is an England international, whereas Binks is a Scottish international. Either way good to have another good set of CBs.

I wouldn't be surprised if Skipp also goes to a top independent school though @WindyCOYS would know more about this.

Also I have mentioned before we have another player of Indian origin in the academy who we may see soon, though I haven't heard/seen him featuring in any tournament pics recently, so there is a chance he may have been released. Dillon Desilva. Coincidentally we have a Dylan, Dilan and Dillon all Indian.

Speaking of interesting names, I think we have a Zidane, Ronaldinho and Cassanova haha. Not sure whether the first two are still in the academy though
Skippy was at Richard Hale School in Herts - an academy.
