If the reports on Brandt's release clause are true, it won't matter if they qualify for the CL, it will be bigger fish that are the problem.
True but he has shown loyalty. He could have gone on a free last summer but re-upped in March of last year i believe. So you never know. Either way we should be on the blower to that kids agent and BL contacts about him. We should have been last year when his contract situation was iffy and had constant feelers since. He is a very very good player. He can do more on a football field than CE. Not saying he can do the things that CE does as well as he does but he can do those things as well as others. And significantly more athletic.

I would prefer we sell Toby abroad for 10-20 mill, instead of seeing him going to United/Liverpool for 25 in august. Could cost us more than 5-15 mill in the long run if he goes there.

Exactly. Papers (I know) are now saying he has a release clause of £60 million in his contract. That’s us out. Next.
But its not if CE leaves at a price between £75 + £100m

Despite the hyperbole coming from many the club knows it has to spend this time but we still will not be the first pick of many which means Poch will have to compromise on what he brings in.

DL actually ready to spend, not stupid money or salaries to get them in, but needs MP to actually accept that we are not first choice and wont be until we win something. Tielmans perfect example.

Winks is currently easily good enough for us. He just needs careful handling because of his injury record
The value of Winks has been shown up in recent performances.
Last season thought he had become too negative and happy just to lay back ball when received.
His game has developed this year and managed / rotated correctly he is now a fundamental part of our team.

I love Toby, but he is not quite at the level of before.

I am sorry but Toby is fantastic. We will not be able to afford or attract a centre back of his quality. We could though sign a player that could turn into a CB that is as good. Or hope that Sanchez and Foyth develop into world class players

Surely the club needs to know how much they have to spend on wages etc and therefore surely the initial push will be to empty the squad of the expendables.

Don’t we still have to sell first?
No that's what you call an excuse.

We sold Dembele and didn't replace. I believe both Vorm and Llorente are out of contract. There are three wide open spots as it is. Then Toby and Christian are probably out so you're up to five. If you would take less than the likely high numbers Levy is putting on names like N'Koudou and Janssen, then you have even more space.

I'm not saying there won't be excuses made. There always are. But the excuses are running very thin. Champions league is almost certain. We have space. We haven't spent in three windows. We have made a lot of money from the CL run this year. We have a great new stadium. It all now comes down to money.

You have a manager that has not significantly been backed during his tenure but has achieved four straight CL appearances, including this year with a threadbare squad due to no transfers and a ridiculous amount of injuries. I can't imagine the club will ever have a better one than Poch. If he is not backed this summer, I think it will be pretty clear that the club is more about profit than glory.

Shorttermism is to get him on a new more lucrative contract - best years behind him but still does a damn goid job.

Then need to develop JF and DS whilst he and JV are still here, as we have been, whilst looking for the next generation again and hopefully some of our own CBs will fill the spot - CV, Eyoma or even BLF.

This is not a list of who I want to sell, but a list of players I think the club will try to move on this summer. Probably won’t sell all of them, but it’s a lot.

Alderweireld
Tripper
Aurier
Rose
Dier
Wanyama
Eriksen
Llorente
Jansen
N’Koudou
Onomah
CCV
Edwards
The real issue with that, is that we could lose all those and realky have no-one from u23s to supplement the squad.
If we let Edwards and Ononah leave plus the likes of Roles then we have real issues for Amos and Marsh are not what we really need, whilst Skipp is still work in progress

Can’t wait for jj’s next post. Really thought we’d blown it yesterday, the results today have just been ridiculous.

Cant now see toby going to united. If he does it will be through greed. We can forget arsenal and Chelsea so that leaves liverpool and man city and as scary as this sounds I think they would want someone better..

Eriksen and Alderweireld new contracts needed.

We have CL football and we're not that far off from winning the CL, one or two more quality additions.
Much as i think he has been the catalyst for what we have/havent achieved believe we sadly must move on from CE and find his younger replacement. CE has been our heartbeat and has helped us to where we are now but we need to develop - this might mean a tiny step back in that position but countered by continued development of others.
