To add to the above, assuming we kept Eriksen and Toby, then adding Sessegnon and Grealish to our AM options would be bloody superb.

This comment along with the ITK report about "opening the purse strings" for players like Grealish & Sessegnong makes me think absolutely nothing will change in regards to our transfer dealing. Would love to be proven wrong!

Agreed. Grealish could have easily been had last year for 25 mill. I guess the purse strings weren't open then, but even if he goes for 40 mill this year, is that really truly "opening the purse strings"? Barely breaking our record signing doesn't really strike me as "opening the purse strings" when coming off three windows of nothing.

Please DL - prove all of us wrong. Just one or two more great players have Spurs challenging for a title.

I’ve deleted the article in question along with posts quoting it so if anyone still has issues let me know.

Meanwhile I suppose this is a good place to mention that we don’t want foreign language articles posted. Or even posts in anything other than English. For obvious reasons.

I really don't understand the big fuzz made out of 1 article that even though one did not understand Spanish one could easily get the gist of it. It was regarding a player that almost every Spurs fan want back to Spurs few, if any, dare believe it's possible.
It was an informative article and those who understood Spanish could, well, hopefully appreciate it.
Besides, there is something called google translate. Marca have an English feature but this article wasn't "covered". It's as if some of have got phobias about a foreign languages or something. There is a world outside of the English language in fact. I understand that English is the standard language for discussions but I've occasionally seen non-English articles featured and it didn't bother me at all.

Mate, Everyone kept getting Spanish messages at the bottom of their screen when they entered the thread, then everything crashed, you broke the site, It totally went down. It was a nightmare. I think some rare dolphins even died off the coast of Indonesia.

Deals can be done any time of the year. You just can’t transfer the registration and play for your new club until the window opens.

Feels like it's been a while since we signed a player toward the end of the season - Modric was a masterstroke of a deal, managed to get that wrapped up before the Euros that year.

When was the last time we signed someone before the window officially opened? Wimmer?

Some of that may not have been strictly true. The article really did break the site (this thread) though mate, and everyone really was getting a 'translate from Spanish - English' message at the bottom of their screen each time they entered this thread, no matter what page we were on.

God knows how it happened though.

Highest points total was season before but I get your point.
You're correct, my mistake. Although I suppose its potentially worse in reality to say we dropped 9 points from the season before and then decided to not buy anyone...

JJ on twitter today saying the club aren't actively working on deals (as you're not allowed to outside of the TW) but have picked out their targets and who they're looking to offload. Doesn't that seem pretty foolish and something that other clubs do?

I mean Real Madrid are actively working on their Hazard deal, announced Militao in March, Bayern announced Lucas Hernandez, etc.

Look at all of the fees those early announcements have cost. Most are way over priced and inflated and I'm guessing that we as a club are looking at our financial circumstances before moving forward with what we are after.

I also think our potential targets could change based on how we progress in the Champions League. The bigger profile we have may become a useful tool, as will monitoring how our potential targets clubs get on as the season comes to a close.

Personally, at this stage of the season I would rather the management team focus on the current squad and use all of their energy ensuring they are conditioned well both psychically and mentally for a huge end to our season. Scouting trips and DVDs can wait a little longer. I have no issue with us holding off, in fact I think it's rather smart to as any leaked deals being close could be disruptive to the current group. Focus on football and football only for the time being.

I still don't get all the hype around Ryan Sessegnon.
He flourished in the Championship even though he lacked a high level of technical ability & tended to run down blind alleys.
This season in the Prem, he reflected his poor sides form: just not good enough.

Given that he's still young & athletic, Poch may be able to work with him & develop his field sense but his skills are lacking at this level.
Granted we may be able to get him at a more discounted price now that Fulham are going down but my feelings remain the same.
I still don't think he has or will have Prem level ability & that money could be better spent on another.

Sesseggnog (sic), just like his name, may be appropriate for certain occasions but...

Apologies in advance for the cheap joke.

£31m for a one year deal I wouldn't want. If Gareth wants a return I'd happily take him but he'd have to respect the wage structure and values of the club. He's made his money, if we wants to go to a loving place I'd take him back with open arms but it has to be right for Spurs.

£31m in theory, how much more would it cost us in salary increases to a fair few of our current squad looking on enviably, even if it is a one year loan?

Kinda makes you wonder if folks actually watch the players they recommend or if they are just parroting BS. I see a goal-hanging tapin merchant without a hint of defensive instinct to play LB and a significant lack of technical ability to play up front. It's what I noticed in their Championship year and it was worse in the PL. Folks will point to his age but some thing don't improve with age. They said the same thing last year about Dele and Eriksen manning the MF for us. I'll leave it up to each individual to determine if that's been a success.
