Am I the only person who really doesn't want Bale back?

He's amazing on his day but those days are puncuated by constant injury problems and mediore performances

If he didn't hinder the rest of our transfer business...

And he was available...

Then we'd have to sign him. He'd increase the status of the club, give the fans and players a boost and if he performed in even 15 league games, he'd probably push us into a genuine title race.

Signings like Bale don't come around too often; we'd have to go for it!!

James isn't even Welsh by birth. He's English, from Yorkshire. He's qualified for Wales through his dad.

EDIT: You also have the HG issue for CL, like we have with Davies. I think James is HG in both PL and CL.
don't think for CL but not sure

Papers coming out with Pogba fee for RM if they are interested. This comes from Riola's mouth so probably some legs to the story.

You can take it with a pinch of salt but £130+ million, and the fact that they want to sign a high profile forward like Mbappe or Neymar means I highly doubt they will be after Eriksen at the price Levy would expect them to pay.

The only way I see this deal making any financial sense for them is if they give us a player in return to offset the transfer fee. Given the fact that they reportedly want to get rid of:

Isco
Asencio
Kroos
Varane
Benzema
Rodriguez
Bale

Who would you guys accept as a make weight? This is assuming Eriksen will leave and not sign an extension obviously.

Either Isco or James would do nicely.

Varane or Bale :)

Btw, what about RM signing Hazard? I thought he was there main target?

I've said this before, but I think it all boils down to what style of football and how we're going to set up next season. This in turn will influence the type of central midfielder that we may buy.

For instance, if we have our excellent attacking players firing on all cylinders and add a couple of dangerous full-backs into the mix, we can get away with having a couple of fairly solid, yet unspectacular, CMs sitting in front of the back four. Of course, this is applicable if we want to finish in the Top 4 next season, as opposed to aiming for a title shot. If that's the case, then we're going to have to sign a top-draw CM.

Currently we've got Dier, Winks , Sissoko, Wanyama and Skipp as our main options in this area. All offer something a bit different, although I wouldn't say any of them are world-class passers of the ball and certainly none of them are a real goal-scoring threat.

Personally, I'd like to see us go for a Sissoko MkII; an athletic player who is quite happy to burst forward with the ball, with power and aggression. Being able to hit the target once in a while, would also be nice.

Alternatively, we could try and find a Modric-like metronome; an outstanding passer who is brilliant at recycling possession of the ball. Not sure if there are too many of these players around tbh.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what Poch does this summer. I just hope we can find some players he wants!!

I agree but as you say it’s subject to various variables.

Playing say Sissoko with Doucoure, Diawara or N’Dombele will give us a rock solid and athletic central midfield which will allow us to play say Alli and 2 attacking wide players eg Moura and Son either side of Kane.

Add two new solid/quick/attacking full backs and we’ll be in with a good chance of replicating the form we had with Walker and Rose (fit) with Dembele and Wanyama shielding the defence.

On paper our best attacking players consist on Eriksen, Alli, Son and Kane. Putting the injuries to one side, they haven’t been as effective this season as we’ve lacked consistency in central midfield and our once flying full backs are no more.

With Eriksen likely to leave, as long as we can rebalance the team we can still excel.

Eg.

............................... Lloris ............................
W-Bissaka.. Sanchez.... Verts.... Grimaldo
................... Sissoko... Doucoure?............
.......... Moura? ....... Alli ....... Son .............
............................. Kane ............................

A much more balanced team than what we currently have.

Agree with most of that.

The question would be whether Alli could play as an out and out number 10.

Currently, his best position is moving across the front 3 midfield players, linking play and making late runs into the box, rather than dictating the play in the final third.

Why would they WANT to get rid of Asensio?

Your guess is as good as mine, he was included in a list of potential outgoings when Zidane was asked about it in an interview. Can't recall which article/newspaper I saw that list in, but was last week sometime.

If Madrid bought Pogba and Hazard and Eriksen stayed that would be fantastic! It's probably a case of either or with Eriksen and Pogba, hence the recent Valdano quotes comparing the two.

I think out of that lot Bale and Isco would excite me the most. James is a big name but I'd much rather Isco. Isco would be like VDV on steroids IMO. Bale returning obviously would be a great story and would be great PR. Still class if he can stay fit too.

Asensio is a real talent but something about him make me wonder if he could succeed over here. Not convinced by his mentality, could see him going the way of Reyes or Morata.

Do they really want rid of Varane? Surely not.

Could probably still be after Hazard, but if they are signing:

Pogba
Hazard
Mbappe/Neymar (Unlikely to be Neymar, his dad squashed these rumors yesterday but you never know.)
Felix

That's over £300 million in fees, I highly doubt they would pay the going rate for Eriksen if they do manage to sign their preferred options. They will probably sign other players for certain positions too, so it's looking increasingly unlikely that they will pursue Eriksen unless they use a makeweight or don't get their preferred targets.

Any team that doesn't include Winks starting is wrong IMO. Absolutely no one to dictate play in that team.

You can probably add Kovacic to that list and although he hasn't been amazing for the Chavs, I'd take him.
