We won't get a 'top striker' to sit on our bench week in, week out. It's why Llorente is such a good fit. We won't get a young striker who has any ambition either. The only way that happens is if you pay ridiculous wages to compemsate for them wasting their careers and we won't do that either.
Agree but he 1) won’t sit on our bench and 2) doesn't have the class of Llorente. So we might as well stick with Llorente unless he wants to go back to Spain.

I'd give Llorente another year and have been saying so for months. We do however need to address the Kane backup situation although a year on Llorente's contract would give us more of a chance to evaluate Troy Parrott.

There's also the possibility of us rotating Kane a lot more often if there is a more capable backup in the squad. We wouldn't have to rush him back from injury all the time and we wouldn't have to constantly make him play 3 games a week with no rest.

Similar to how City use Aguero and Jesus.

IMO we could have kept Llorente a lot more up to speed if we'd given him regular minutes off the bench.

These past couple of months do seem to suggest that Llorente could've played a bigger role once he'd adjusted to the system and style of play. If he were a couple of years younger, extending his contract would've been a no-brainer.

He’s more of a natural midfielder IMO, in terms of his awareness of what’s around him and his ability to turn away from danger (more mobile and has quicker feet).
Fair enough we do need quicker transitions and awareness to move the ball around which is definitely an issue I have with Dier. Probably need to look at him a bit more but last time I saw him when he played for England he didn’t set the world alight.

There’s a lot of attainable players around this summer at lesser PL clubs and a few championship that could definitely improve our squad. I’ve got a list of 15-20 and that’s even before you look at Europe. Really no excuses this summer the players are there.

Poch seems to want to buy to improve the first team. Not so many players who can do that from lesser prem teams.

It's a difficult situation because buying players to improve the first XI assumes that current first XI starters will have to accept being benched. I think we need strong competition for places right across the board which would allow for more rotation and rest periods without significant drop off in quality. IMO there's plenty of players in the EPL who could fit that bill.

I’d love us to add quality young British talent.

Lloyd kelly, Dan James, Brooks, Aaron’s (awb would be first choice but probably too much now), Grealish, Tielemans and then get Giroud in a free transfer (very underrated striker) and then new deals for Toby and eriksen.

If eriksen goes then buy Brandt (different but very good player).

I think the above with outgoings would be attainable, realistic and would help reduce the age of the squad and reinvigorate it plus give it much more depth, creativity and pace.

Dier and Wanyama will be like new players with a preseason too.

Outgoing: Vorm, trippier/Aurier, Janssen, Llorente, gnk, Lamela (too many injuries) and wanyama, but only if the club have concerns about if injuries long term and get decent money.

That £45 Million is pretty much the same amount I mentioned earlier for the ENTIRE Ajax starting 11 that played against Juventus last night. On the flip side of the coin, Man City’s 11 that lost to us cost £400+ million to put together, and £1.2 Billion since the Sheik took over.

Money simply doesn’t guarantee success or good players just because they cost a fortune.

It’s staggering the amount of money some fans expect us to spend just for the sake of signing new players. It’s about doing smart business not just business in general.

I’d love for us to have an exceptional scouting department like Ajax or Dortmund where we sign potential for reasonable fees. It hasn’t worked out too bad for them has it?

I know there are good arguments for both sides, but my personal opinion would be to scout properly and sign players who will not only improve us but not break the bank either. As tough as that is too achieve.

Here's the thing. If a Premier league team show an interest in signing player X, then the price is significantly higher than if a team from the Dutch/French/German leagues show interest in the same player.. The price of a player is dictated by what the buying club can afford, not what the player is worth.
So anyone we sign will be £30M+ I'm sure.

Son is Kane's backup, he's our 2nd striker.

This debate comes up everytime since 2016, can't believe we're still having it lol

Kane, Son and Llorente are perfectly good options for up front. Hope Llorente has one more season in him so we can concentrate on other areas this summer.

I'll be surprised if Llorente is still with us next season. He'll be 35 next February, Not meaning to sound ageist, but surely that's too old even for a backup striker in a top 4/title challenging squad.

On the Llorente chat, hes looked as sharp, fit and on it recently, as during any time in England imo.
