Let's say, for debates sake that we are open to listening to offers for 12 of our players. The players the Evening Standard have listed are:

Trippier
Aurier
Rose
Alderweireld
Janssen
Llorente
Nkoudou
Wanyama
Lamela
Sissoko
Vertonghen
Eriksen

Add Vorm & Dembele to that list it'll mean the club long term needs:

1x Goalkeeper
2x Right back
1x left back
2x Centre back
1x defensive midfieler
2x central midfielder
1x attacking midfielder
2x wide forward
2x forward

Say for rationales sake that we end up buying/ selling one in each of those positions. Who do you go for?

The only way Vertonghen leaves is if he asks to move. E.g. Back to Ajax for personal reasons. Even then I’d want De Ligt in his stead, and be absolutely gutted.

No sense in letting Rose or Sissoko go either.

Vertonghen has one year left on his current deal and will be 33 by the time that finishes. Rose has two years left on his current deal so it's realistic to think we'll be replacing both by next summer as it stands.

As mentioned though, I've given the squad places that the Evening Standard has reported that we'd be interested in moving on and I've reduced the multiples, like in the right back area down to x1 for realistic measures.

Personally I don't see the club moving the three you've mentioned on at all, it was a list purely taken from the Evening Standard article

I wasn’t implying that you agreed with the article, just hypothesising with regards to it’s validity.

I reckon Verts could play at the top level for another 3 years, he shows no signs of slowing down and obviously looks after himself. He’s aging like a fine wine.

Getting rid of up to 12 is slightly worrying. The squad needs an overhaul, but getting rid of everyone all at once might not be such a good thing. We saw what happened when we sold Bale, and Liverpool and Everton have had similar experiences when they sold Suarez and Lukaku respectively.

Hard to put a number on it, but if we were to bring in 7 or 8 players (or even more) then we'd take a while to get up to speed. Need to find the balance and bulk up the squad over two or three windows.

4 or 5 barely play at all now due to injury or not good enough. I think the most we can hope for is we ship off around 8 and replace with maybe 5, but thats best case

For me the players definitely talented enough to be in our squad are:

Lloris (got to cut out the mistakes though but he clearly has the talent)
Rose
Alderweireld
Vertonghen
Sanchez
Foyth
Dier
Winks
Dele
Eriksen
Lucas
Kane

Possibly being very harsh on Davies & Sissoko but they are steady players, not powerhouses in the game. For me the above listed 12 players are the most i portent nucleus to the team quality wise. The only thing we lack from that group to play a settled starting XI that knows each others games whilst others integrate into the squad is a starting XI right back.

Upheaval can be a bad thing but with he core first team staying pretty much exactly the same I don't necessarily think peripheral squad upheaval in this case would be a bad thing. Fresh blood, instill a little urgency into the first XI for their squad places etc.

Can anyone realistically say that if we lost the likes of Vorm, Trippier, Aurier, Davies, Wanyama, Nkoudou, Lamela, Janssen & Llorente that it would serious damage our playing style to the point where the risk isn't worth taking? Add Sissoko into the mix who is a great squad player but that's all he should be and you've got 10 potential exits that really are 2nd string based on ability compared to our top dogs in the current ranks

I know this has been discussed before, agent issues etc but if you were to spunk that kind of money on Gomez, I would love for us to go all out for Tielemans instead.

Plays CM, Belgian and, most importantly, can create and assist. With Eriksen possibly leaving, Tielemans could be the solution.

What about when we don’t have the ball? Who is going to win it back?
Gonna have to find some player who can play like Eriksen and be as strong ,athletic and quick as sissoko and be in our price range ?
We get a proper replacement for Wanyama, unless Dier turns it around. Sissoko is not a DM.

Brandt is a no brainer, 20 mill odd release clause, can play cam if required and on the wing.

Havertz is another one although will be more expensive.

Alex telles for LB possibly.

Not sure how we will get rid of Janssen, Nkoudou, and Wanyama unless we stick a big £0 price tag on their heads. You'd have to be mental to buy Wanyama with his injury record which is really sad given how good he was 2 years ago. The only players I can see offers coming in for are Toby, Trippier, maybe Lamela (although his injury record is a concern too). I personally don't think Eriksen will go because I don't think anyone good enough will want him, especially at the price Levy will demand. Think we'll see a turn over of 4 players this summer, which will be ok as long as the incomings are top quality.

We have to spend this next window. We all know that, including Levy.

A new right back ?
Centre Back if Toby's gone ?
If Christian goes balls deep for - Kai Havertz
New centre Mid - Fornals (can play forward or deeper)
HG Keeper (if nothing deemed appropriate in the juniors)
With Son and Lucas really don't feel need backup Centre Forward. They can do the job.

The article says we won't actually sell 12 players next window.

Regarding Gomes if Pochettino wants him I am in, technically he is a good player with a sweet left foot... he wouldn’t be my first choice but hey...Sissoko was a poch buy he saw something in him and look now

A mere two and a half years later too!

If we sign a bunch of young english players then we aren't going to compete next season. Nothing wrong with English players but we shouldn't be signing them just because they're english and have shown something in a few games. Sign the best players that we can whilst keeping in mind that there is a HG quota. If it means spunking money on foreign CMs and AMs whilst getting HG fullbacks and a HG keeper then that's fine. But we have to do it properly, not just because we can.

It's starting already....papers saying Spurs want Sessegnon but Fulham want £40m and our valuation is £25m.
Personally I reckon £30m-£35m is about right and I'd try and do the deal now. I like the lad very much and reckon he'd fit in nicely....but what do I know :)

Where would he fit? Seems like a natural Left Midfielder - which we don't use very often.

It feels like we can do better at Winger - Sonny is already there. And, it does not seem like Sessegnon can play FB. For £40M - I want someone who is going to compete for a starting XI spot straight away.
