I do wonder if this has made him bitter towards us, if we try again.

I don't see why Grealish would be bitter towards us. I think we'd agreed personal terms and he really wanted to come but then the Villa takeover went through and they bumped the price from 25m to 45m or something like that. Not our fault.

But that doesn’t fit the common narrative in this place.

Agreed, the problem now though is that his price will still be closer to that 45m mark this summer and I dunno if we'd be willing to pay that.

25m last summer would've been a very good deal which is why it needed to be done earlier. IIRC the suggestion was that we delayed doing that deal and that allowed time for the takeover to be done and the price to be jacked up (forgive the pun).

35m would be a good (and fair IMO) price for JG but I think they'll be asking for north of 40m.

IIRC some ITK reported that the new contract he signed included a release clause based on if they didn't get promoted/if a PL team made an offer.

IIRC we did fart around with the price too, waiting for targets we preferred as Grealish would be a back-up option (I'm guessing that was de Jong).

We failed aiming high, but there was (as usual), no echo of glory.

We always fail aiming high in the market under these owners. For whatever reason they lack the cojones to get the deal over the line. Too afraid to pay that little bit more/agents fee/wage because all they think of are the repercussions as opposed to the positives. That's exactly why we've hit the glass ceiling with this team, HR previous, and can't break through it. Don't kid yourselves otherwise, we've got more of the same to come with the stadium being the relevant excuse forth owners to use the next decade......

He didn’t want to leave villa, got talked into it, bought into it and was then let down as we didn’t follow through. Ball was very much in our court on this don’t know how he feels about it now.

Just popping in here once more to spread my propaganda for Diawara. Absolute baller and on his day already world class. Much like RLC and CHO criminally underused by Sarri at Napoli when he was there.

Has he actually shown that ability over the past 2 years though? Seems like he's stagnated as being not played very much by 2 separate coaches now at Napoli as he isn't playing much under Ancelotti either. He didn't play a minute for them in UCL and has only started 8 games all season.

We'll only get a chance to sign Grealish if AV miss out on promotion. I would have liked him previously and I think he'd flourish with much better players around him. Haven't seen anything much from Sessegnon to set the pulse racing and I think our valuation of him has probably dropped a fair bit. I'd prefer a LWB like Telles or Grimaldo in all honesty. RB is less of a problem so will probably stick with what we have unless we get a good enough offer.

I'd give Llorente another year and focus on a top quality CM like N'Dombele or Diawara. Would be happy enough with Berge from what I've seen. We need a HG 3rd choice keeper if Vorm moves on. Don't think we have anyone good enough coming through the ranks.

I'm the other way around. I think RB is a far more pressing issue than LB.

I could cope with Rose and Davies for another season. I couldn't cope with Aurier and Trips.

I'll take it one further and say we need new starters at both!

Do you remember how many people were saying they didn’t want him or they didn’t want him at £30m? Was hardly the people’s choice.

Yes. I think someone deleted a post ?

Either way, lots using Grealish to beat Levy with when most at the time were sceptical.
Yeah, I wasn't a fan of it due to the price vs our budget and needs. If we had an unlimited budget bring it on but I just didn't see a no brainer spot for him in the team.

I know he just regurgitates news from the press/internet, but what can people say about this player/link?
