He had agreed and everything just under 50M then right at the death the agent -Moroccan chap did us over
Well they ended up getting €75m + 11m add-ons in the end so can only really blame ourselves for not paying up when it really mattered.

Tuchel is loved by the fans and owners of PSG so he’s going nowhere. Similarly, Bayern have a new man coming in next season.

Stop reading everything so literally ffs

L'Equipe are reporting that he'll be offered a 1 year extension extension to the 2 year contract he signed in May 2018.

So it looks as though you're correct.

Question about potential LB. Does anyone know much about the young lad, Tierney, at Celtic? Arseanal have been linked with him for a while, and now Leicester are linked with him because they're expecting bids for Chilwell this summer.

Just wondering if Tierney could be a potential option?

That's the way you have to look at it. Trying to scout Europe for a like-for-like attacking midfielder will end in failure. Either we identify someone we can't get or we will get an inferior player. I would try to move the playmaking back to the CMs and try to improve the fullbacks to widen the play.

Exactly my thoughts on the recruiting if and when Eriksen makes the move. We do not need to burden a new player with all the creative load that Eriksen used to carry, we can spread that burden across 3 signings and with Dele playing further forward near Kane, we will need that creativity from CM and FB and not from a more advanced position, that will be covered by Dele.

Good player and a lifelong Celtic fan. I think Celtic will be offered money they can't refuse, but I don't expect that to be from us.

People should stop using Pool as an example. They happily dropped 80m on van Dijk and god knows how much on Fabinho, Keita and Allison. They spent 30m+ on AOC, Firmino, Salah, Mane. We baulked at 25m for Grealish.

It’s a different kettle of fish. Their board want to win things, ours is happy as long as we achieve peak saleability.

Éder Militão signed for Real Madrid for €50M. Please tell me why we never are proactive like this? Closing deals before the windows even opens. Assuming we're selling Toby for 25M in the summer we could have bought arguably one of the top prospects in world football as a replacement for a net spend of 25m. Instead we'll dick around pretending to be interested in De Ligt only to be utterly rejected and in the end go for some Serie A dross that in the end will end up costing more or less the same in net spend. Ugh.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we didn't buy a replacement for Toby. We have Sanchez, Foyth and Dier who, though not as good, are as good as anyone we could afford. I think the 25m from Toby will go straight into the kitty for a CM.

Thanks for that. I figured (probably naively) that, because he's from Celtic, he'd be a cheaper option than other options.

His 'price will be dictated by who is after him more than what League he plays in. Some big clubs will be in for him IMO so we know how that one ends.

People saying that Eriksen isn't replaceable are kidding themselves. Every player is replaceable.

Let's not forget that we had Gareth Bale, one of the best players in the world and since selling him we've not only replaced his contribution but also become a better club in the process.

This club is moving forward and that's not just gonna stop from selling Eriksen and Toby. Panicking as a fan base isn't going to help matters. We have so much to be grateful for and excited about.

Will I be sad to see both those players go? Absolutely. But I don't want anyone here that doesn't want to be here (Eriksen) or a player that has upset the boss (Toby).

Granted, we haven't made any signings for 2 windows but if anyone actually believes that will continue then they're just being overly negative.

Agreed that their way of doing business and ours is complete polar opposites, but what I meant was that when they lost Coutinho and Suarez there was the same talk of how are they going to replace these two.

They didn't replace them directly, they changed and adapted their system to fill the void.

VVD, Allison, Keita and Fabinho were not signed as replacements for Suarez and Coutinho, they were signed to fill gaping holes in Liverpool's squad. IMO Firminho, Salah and Mane were signed to play Liverpool's new system as "replacements" for Suarez and Coutinho.

The main point is that we can change and adapt to the loss of Eriksen it will just take some seriously smart business and targets. Whether or not the club can make that happen is anyone's guess.

That would be a grave mistake IMO. Foyth is nowhere near good enough to be a regular starter for any team aspiring for titles. Not even close. Neither is Dier, and honestly, barely Sanchez. We cannot rely on Verts being 1. available an entire season and 2. carrying our defense on his back himself.

On another note - that list that the Daily Mail list of players we're looking to sign is nothing short of depressing. Oh my, what a load of dross. Rather take all that money, which must be in the range of at least 150M pounds, if not even more, and just buy 2 or 3 world class players. Would do us a whole lot more good.

I don't understand why you are saying that the club are arrogant over Eriksen. We have had great offers on the table for 2 years for him and he hasn't signed (yes he's lost money)them as he wants to fulfill his football ambition and try to play for Real Madrid. How is that arrogant?
Is he world class on his day - yes
Does he hit those high standards nearly every game- no
Can that be replaced - yes

Totally agree that can be replaced, the question is will it and does anyone really have any faith in that? Won't be surprised if we're in for some top quality replacements that we will nearly sign, but couldn't quite get it over the line.

I know someone in the PSG camp and he has been much more positive about Tuchel than Emery and I get the impression the players feel the same.

You are able to attract better players if you have guaranteed champions league is what i meant.
Whether or not we decide to pay the sufficient is a different conversation.
Cheers for the view from the inside as always, JJ.

I just haven’t seen us attract a better calibre of player this last three years. So I don’t know if that idea holds true anymore. Players agents might tell us, “No, we won’t sign with you because you didn’t qualify for the CL,” but what they really mean is, “Someone else will pay us more.”
