Would you take him back?

Any idea how he's been playing at Schalke?
He plays further forward for Schalke, or at least he did last season when I saw them play. I was never convinced by him as a holding midfielder. Positioning not very good, and played too many loose balls on the halfway line that got us into trouble. He was good at pressing though, and has become a more creative player in Germany.

He’s got a dodgy injury track record and suffers from that chronic inflammatory pubitis condition that flares up and can take weeks to months to calm down. It’s also pretty hard to judge how much he has grown as a player as Schalke have consistently struggled the last couple of seasons.

Fairly sure he started for us as a winger. Those loose passes though...

He’s shit. I was happy when he left
Plus he has a questionable attitude.
Don’t want him anywhere near our club

A little harsh but I agree with the sentiment. I personally never understood what anyone (from our supporters) saw in him, and I never saw why on earth Sherwood kept picking him, as he really never seemed to do anything other than look pissed off & give the ball away a LOT.

Decent player but we should be looking for better.

Exactly. All we keep seeing on here is how the club never shows ambition, and we NEED to start making statement signings to take us to the next level etc.

Yet the same people are now cooing for the return of a player who was already deemed insufficient & sold, hasn't pulled up trees since his move & has some pretty major, underlying injury issues.

I don't get it

Am currently reading Poch’s biography and there are 2 reasons I doubt Poch will want Bentaleb back.

1. He really emphasizes on positivity and enjoying the game in the book. I remember quotes from him (from pressers iirc) that Bentaleb rarely smiled and had a negative aura around him. He’s the opposite of Son in that respect. Doubt Poch will take a potentially disruptive element back, given the excellent team ethic we have nowadays...

2. You improve by buying the best player in a certain position. While we all know that the best may not always be available, I think there are better players around than Bentaleb.

I can’t see it.

See there’s an article where Bentaleb wishes he was still at spurs, admits his mistakes and seems to have spoken to Poch recently to bury the hatchet.

I always thought he was a talented cm, would personally love to see him back at spurs.

He can scores goals, has skills, lovely weight on a pass, positional sense and can tackle.

He would also be classed as home grown.

I certainly think he would be a perfect addition to our midfield.

Thoughts?
He scored 1 goal for us in all competitions and in his 1st season at Schalke, he he scored 5 goals, than hasn't scored in open play since. All his other goals are penalties.

I can't agree with the positional sense either, that along with his occasional lax passing were his worse qualities. Despite that he was a good player, just not good enough to be 1st choice for us anymore, which is what we need to be looking for.

Yeah, Schalke's coach said that they could win 5-0 but if Bentaleb didn't play he would still be moping around as if they lost 5-0. We don't need that kind of nativity in this squad.

I think we could do a lot worse than take a look at Billing at Huddersfileld - young powerful can ping a ball I think there could be a real player in there

Seems like a logical alternative to Timo Werner would be Inaki Williams from Athletic Bilbao. Probably decently pricy though.

Mitrovic at that price would be brilliant business. He's basically a less clinical Kane with a temper problem. He'd fit right in, get his goals and would relish in antagonizing the scum and Chelsea.

No, just last Feb he was dropped for his poor attitude, so I'm not convinced he has learned as much as he says. Personally, I think he has the personality type to act out on impulse and regret his actions after.

Shame as at 19 he looked to have great potential. But without focusing on his game and continuously looking to improve any young player will falter.

Disagree. He couldn’t play with Kane and that means he will spend most of his time on the bench and inevitably be rusty when he comes on. We need another Son, someone like dare I say it Brandt or Bailey from Son’s old club Leverkusen. They could play with Kane or replace him if he was injured.
