Similar-ish, but in every department except eye-catching dribbles - Walker shits all over him. We haven’t had a right back even 10% as good as Walker since he left.

Massive fan of Walker but it has to be said he always has massive brainfades in him and that hasn't changed at City. Was dropped earlier in the season.

Good idea that. Suso looks a good player and I'm starting to think, much as I appreciate what Erik's done, that we might need some fresh ideas in that position

Fresh ideas? Fuck me we undervalue Eriksen soooo much. The bloke is our most important player by a mile.

I actually think Toby's qualities will be more difficult to replace the Eriksens. His passing range and ability on the ball is massively important to how we operate as far as the full backs are concerned.
His contribution in possession is so underestimated. One of the best cross-passing defenders around surely...

Will be such a big loss if/when he goes.

They will both be sorely missed.

I feel a lot of what Eriksen does goes under the radar. I still think he is the player we always seem to miss most. When we lose control of a game he can just drop deeper, help out and keep things ticking over. I do think there are players out there to replace him who could do that job, though. Just maybe not as effectively.

Regarding Toby I just can't see us replacing him properly with a signing. You'd only probably choose about 5 or 6 in the world better than him. I'd use Dier to replace him who still has big potential, and has that sort of diagonal pass you speak of on him. With Foyth stepping up as well I think we'd be fairly well covered with Davies as another option. The time to bring a CB in will be in a couple of years time when Vertonghen might start to decline physically.

If Eriksen and Toby do go, Havertz has to be our first stop for the former. I know Brooks is fancied but I think he’s going to be a different type of player to Eriksen.

For Toby, I’d be fine not replacing, and concentrating on fullbacks, but it looks like we’re keen on Joachim Andersen.

I'd love for us to get Declan Rice but it's going to be a very tough ask unless he throws his toys out the pram and he doesn't seem like that kind of kid. It's a shame he signed that new deal because in the last few months he's looked like exactly the kind of holding player we need.

To be fair, I could have made it clearer by referencing Lamela I’m my post...and not spending the whole thing talking about Eriksen....
Lol. Sorry. And, yes you're right. I love Lamela but in this scenario you have a very decent point!

Lorente and janssen out, Sturridge in
Moura out, Brooks in
Ericksen out, havertz in
Dembele and VW out, berg in
Aurier out, wan bissaka in
Toby out, Anderson in

Net spend would not be too significant in the above scenario

Dier does not have the ability to hit our wide players at will like Toby does, not even close imo.

My list:

LB: Sessegnon - maybe I'm clueless but I think if Fulham goes down this is almost nailed on. We like him, he's in London, we can pay him well, he has a relatively clear path to the first team. I don't think there's a better move for him atm, unless Pep or Jurgen is promising he'll be a first team starter and I just don't see it atm. He would be excellent as LWB when we go 5atb, and could probably even do a job at LW now and then. 30-40M.

RB: Wan Bissaka - I like him a lot, but will Palace let him go for anything approaching a reasonable price? If they sell Zaha I think they'll be reluctant to let anyone else go next window. Hopefully we move quickly (ha!) and Willy isn't forcing his way out. 40M at least, probably 50 if teams like City and Chelsea get involved.

CB: Andersen? - I haven't seen enough to rate him or not, he seems highly regarded but still quite young and raw. Would be in competition with Foyth as backup to Verts/Sanchez I think, which is not a bad place to be. But I could easily be convinced that another signing is better. 20-25M.

GK: Don't care, someone young and cheap and English, just need a serviceable third-choice. 1-2M.

W: Suso - I actually like the look of him the more I see him, he has good vision and a good range of passing, and doesn't mind taking on a man and riding out a challenge. And with his release clause I bet Levy is salivating. 35M.

CM: I genuinely don't know. Feels like N'Dombele will be priced out of our reach, and frankly I'm not convinced he's that level of talent. The French league makes a lot of decent players look great. Berge is a decent shout if we like him, but again pretty young and untested. 20M.

I'd be pretty happy with that if we keep Eriksen, if he leaves then one of Havertz/Brooks would be a good replacement. Either would probably cost at least 50M.

So that's 150M if Eriksen stays, 200M if he leaves. :woot: Yeah, I'm feeling pretty confident that won't happen! But it doesn't hurt to dream I guess.

me too. i like havertz as well, especially that i have a soft spot for leverkusen. and besides havertz, they have some nice young players like leon bailey and brandt. i like brandt a lot.

i would take ndombele as well

i am fine with moura as a sub.

i would buy a lb to compete with rose and davies. at lb, i am not a big fan of davies.

This is the start of weekly remainders that Pochs whole project has been predicated on the collective and not on individuals. I know this thread is to allow people to fantasise a little but there will be no more than 3/4 leaving and 1/2 (plus third choice keeper) arriving. Could be fewer than that.

Players leaving will probably be fringe players who have started <10 games and so won’t really need replacing but you have to feel that eventually Poch will be able to land a player he really wants...as long as the sale of these fringe players can be made.

Would be interesting to know who people think we might buy within those constraints.

I think we’ll sign a CB or LB (depending on who’s available and where Poch sees Davies playing).

And I think we’ll see a CM arrive. More 8 than 10 but able to play both, particularly if Eriksen goes.

The problem we face is that you can't replace players like Toby and Eriksen like for like because they don't exist. What we can do is bring in players who will fulfill slightly different roles/abilities but who the team can fit around in the same way. It's a mistake to reject players on the basis that they're not similar enough to the players they are replacing and it's Poch's job to mould them into something that works for us. Having said that, I hope to God they both stay.
