Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Lamela was one of the 'shock' departures Poch was hinting at a while back. If we're going to operate with a small squad they need to have a much better fitness record than quite a few we currently have on the books. Sad, but true.

I know the money side of things shouldn't really be our concern, and people do love to take a pop at Levy because of it BUT even I could understand if selling Lamela ended up being for financial reasons.

As I said earlier, the lad is supposedly earning £4m per year (£16m contract over 4 years) and surely that sort of money could be better spent elsewhere.

It could be the difference between the salary of a decent player or a world class player who deserves a world class salary.

For me, there's some obvious "wage clearing" that's going to happen, one way or another:

I'm using Sportrac's Wage/Payroll for these numbers (could be a bit off, but likely not insanely wrong)
Link: https://www.spotrac.com/epl/tottenham-hotspur-f.c/payroll/

Expiring Contracts:
Michel Vorm: £40,000/wk
Fernando Llorente: £75,000/wk

Players *VERY* likely to be sold:
Vincent Janssen: £34,000/wk
Georges-Kevin N'koudou: £35,000/wk

Players *Likely* To Be Sold:
Kieran Trippier: £65,000/wk
Serge Aurier: £70,000/wk
Erik Lamela: £80,000/wk
Victor Wanyama: £65,000/wk
Joshua Onomah: £30,000/wk
Danny Rose or Ben Davies (Either/Or): £60,000/wk

Players *SortaKindaLikelyButHopefullyNot* To Be Sold:
Christian Eriksen: £75,000/wk
Toby Alderweireld: £80,000/wk

As you can see, just from the expiring/very likely to be sold groups, if they are completely off the books, that'd free up somewhere in the vicinity of about £180,000/wk. Say we sell Trippier, Lamela, Wanyama, Onomah and Davies from the 3rd group, that's another £300,000/wk.

Basically, if we're aggressive with getting rid of contracts, we could free up quite a large amount of money/week, pay what will likely be required to lure the talent we need and hopefully afford some contract extensions for players that are deserving.

For vitesse Arnhem

Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount are the two currently on loan who I've been watching. Mount has no chance of ever breaking into the Chelski first team, but he's been brilliant at each loan spell. Reminds me of a young Aaron Ramsey but has been playing a deeper #8 role at Derby, which is not uncommon in the championship where there isn't the luxury of having a pure #10. Nothing particularly outstanding physically, but he just scores goals constantly, high work rate and makes great runs and finishes really well. The kind of player who could do really well for a coach like Poch. Tomori is going to go the Ake route and be a star for a team like Bournemouth or Everton.

Edit - this was a reply about Eriksen and Toby, which disappeared. Alcohol induced I reckon!

“I understand that and agree, but that kind of assumes we couldn’t replace them with even better. I don’t know who, but that’s not my job or certainly expertise”.

Not disagreeing with the players you’re suggesting moving on, but to be honest I don’t think it’ll end up helping our wage bill massively. There are a few players in there who are on fairly modest wages compared to what they could earn at other clubs, and things have moved to another level of silly since many of those contracts were signed. The going rate for any kind of ambitious signing is gonna be significantly more per week than even Toby, Eriksen and Lamela are on. If we want to keep our wage will roughly the same we’re gonna have to be smart about balancing out the squad with some young, hungry and left field players who will accept a peasants wage of only 40 grand a week!

Fuck me Villa's going to get promoted aren't they...

So much for Grealish. :(
He's carrying this Villa side. What a baller. Him and Dele on the pitch together would be quite entertaining.

Promoted or not, he’d be foolish to stay there imo

Getting them up should be reward enough. Time to step up. Villa are 10 years away from challenging for champions league football, and that’s with a biiiiiiiiig money investment

Surely. I just can't see us paying the fee they would demand from us if they make it up.

Bring on the laughs, but I would pay a substantial chunk of our budget to go all out for dyabala. I realize it is unlikely no matter what, but I don’t think it is impossible given he seems to be available and perhaps Poch can work his Argentinian connection magic. To dare is to do!

Edit: not expecting anything obviously, but would love us to give it a real go.

i think the point is that the contract he signed after last summer is rumoured to have a non-promotion clause.

Different sources here. The first one (Football 365) seems to suggest he has a clause that allows him to leave for £30m of they're not promoted - https://www.football365.com/news/new-grealish-contract-includes-30m-release-clause

But these sources all seem to suggest he can go for £45m (€50m) regardless of promotion - https://onefootball.com/en/news/jac...-villa-contract-en-21838631?variable=20190419

All those sources refer to either the Times or the Mirror.

I don't expect a whole sale this summer but I would be willing to let all these 13 players ( with 2 exceptions) leave this summer - for the RIGHT price. Yes, all of them at once this summer.
Exceptions are, of course, Toby & Eriksen: if they both sign contract extensions.

Vorm – contract will expire this summer and too good to be 3rd choice

Rose – not sure if he’s mentally and physically fit/ready for another season at Spurs
Georgiou – simply not good enough
Toby – can’t see him stay
CCV – I don’t think he’s happy being 3rd or 4th choice so better let him go (unless the staff see something in him)
Aurier – time for him to be sold me thinks
Trippier – if Spurs get top money for him and already have a quality RB lined up

Wanyama – too injury prone lately and I doubt he'll recover his old match-fitness (when he beasted the midfield)
Onomah – better let him move on
Eriksen – up to him really

N’koudou – not good enough
Janssen – not good enough
Lamela – not fit enough

Haven’t read the articles etc tbh. The guy will be really torn between the reality of struggling against relegation, and the love of his team, vs potential recognition and success ( I hesitate to say).

Well in the last bit of the link to The Bleacher Report, it states

Grealish, based on his quotes, was keen on a move to Tottenham, and it would have been intriguing to see him work under Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino. If he wants that move next summer, Villa may find it tough to stand in his way.

So hopefully IF we activate the supposed clause, his mind is already made up.

Edit: these are the quotes that the bit I just posted mention.....

And while the Midlands outfit are his boyhood club, he admitted he was disappointed a move to Tottenham didn't go through.

"Of course there's going to be disappointment there," he told the Daily Telegraph (h/t Joe Shread of Sky Sports) "They've beaten Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford. They're playing Barcelona in the Champions League next week."

Let’s see eh? Realty vs sound bites.

For the record, anyone will see that I thought the guy (could) be great at least 18 months ago. I was likening him to Gazza but was being shot down. Just what we need.

Only one I would add but in the spirit of your "willing to let...leave" post i would add Eric Dier. This shouldn't be contentious when viewed objectively but it will be. Not HG, not good enough in the MF, surpassed at CB, fitness ?'s, etc. From my perspective Non-HG players should be unquestioned first XI and Eric is just not good enough in any position to be an unquestioned starter.

Forget Mason Mount, however well suited he might be to Poch and his team. There's simply no way that Chelscum will want to do business with us. I'd be surprised if they even answer the phone to us.
