I think a few here are guilty of picking and choosing the comments from the article that fit their own views.

Seems to me that there’s more being talked about than simply clearing up after games, which obviously is covered in rates etc. Spurs seem to be moaning that the area is a dump, and expecting the council to pick up the bill for various gentrifications that the club want to see. Resurfacing roads and making the area pretty etc.

Don’t see why this needs to be a binary thing, if the club want the area spruced up a little, why don’t they work with the council and offer to fund some of it. If it’s going to help the clubs image in the long run then it’s likely worth the investment.

The guy quoted in this article is very well known in the Tottenham area for his campaigning. Spends a lot of time send photos of fly tipped rubbish to Haringey council's twitter account

The club don't want the area spruced up; they wanted it regenerated off the back of guarantees from the Council when they agreed that the club would stay in Tottenham.

Anyone would think, from reading the article, that the hard working residents of Tottenham want it to remain a shit-hole.. I doubt that very much.

The only people that want Tottenham to stay as it is are criminals or the people that choose not to work. Don't tell me that there's no jobs - THERE ARE JOBS for those with the right attitude and willing to do a day's graft. Why on earth would you NOT want the area to improve if you live there otherwise?

As has been covered already - the cost of cleaning up after the business has delivered it's product should be covered in business rates - it's not rocket science; this happens for EVERY business.

Whilst I agree with a lot of what you say, I think the problem (and a huge fear of local residents) is the gentrification of Tottenham. The people buying housing in Tottenham aren't the same people that have traditionally lived there. Instead, those people are being pushed further and further out as the Hackney and Hoxton set move up the High Road.
Whilst jobs are available, the lack of social housing means that people no/lower paid jobs are subject to the same housing pressures as everyone else - i.e. if you can't afford to live there then you'll have to move to somewhere you can afford! It's an unfortunate reality of life nowadays, and a difficult problem to solve - should the working middle class pay for people to live in areas that they themselves couldn't afford to live in (be that a relative "shithole" or otherwise)?

I totally agree with what you say about Rates though - what the hell are businesses paying for if it's not the infrastructure to allow their business to operate? This is sometimes lost within the council, who often seem to think that business rates are paid purely to keep them in a job!

.

One of the main fears is, like in all "gentrification" of areas, is that the people who currently live there will no longer be able to afford to. I don't think anyone wants it to stay riddled with crime and gang violence, but there's a massive difference between cutting that stuff out and turning it into some kind of Shoreditch 2.0

I believe the club owns those houses. It is what many locals keep telling me. I don't remember reading anywhere that we purchased them. Might have slipped through though.

That's correct. They will be demolished to make way for a car park to be used for the planned health centre and NFL coaches. Details are somewhere on the Haringey Planning site.

That's a shame. They're decent houses.

I don't think we had much news on any of the club's property purchases, except archway I guess, they quietly went about obtaining the properties back in the early years of ENIC's ownership.

Any link?

I should say Wine Gum originally found this info and is usually the person to to go for this sort of information.

Edit:

Found Wine Gum's original post on SkyscraperCity with full links:

The club have submitted a Planning Application to demolish 6 properties (31-41 Worcester Avenue) to provide car park and coach parking for the future Community Health Center.

These properties are opposite the proposed Health Center.

Anyone know how the new WHL station is progressing? Can’t find the link on the skyscraper city forum?

Didn't the original timeline for the upgraded station have it pegged to finish in August 2018, which was then changed to Spring 2019, but it's now slated for sometime before the start of the new season?

Makes me appreciate how quickly we have built our stadium, even with the delays.
